  • Here are the results in order of highest score to lowest score: (reminder, if you have feedback on any of these hose reels, let people know in the comments because it is legitimately helpful).
    1. Hoselink (also the MOST expensive) : amzn.to/3PxUlRr
    2. Glahoden (best bang for your buck) : amzn.to/3IO9mKW
    3. Gardena : amzn.to/3IMfCDc
    4/5 tie. Flexzilla : amzn.to/3TsFnxf
    5/5 tie. Vevor (This was obviously NOT a long term test but if I had to guess which of these would wear out the fastest, it would be this one which makes sense because it is the cheapest option. Just had to throw this out there) : amzn.to/497s6jA
    6. Giraffe (*NEW DEVELOPMENT* - Giraffe now has an option for a METAL BRACKET and since that was our biggest gripe for this reel, that alone would move this one up the list!) : amzn.to/3TLVPtQ
    7. Blubery : amzn.to/4a0QMLI
    8. Retracta: amzn.to/3vf5NdX
    Side Note: If you are looking for garden hose quick connects, I did a video on the best of those also but spoiler alert, eley was the best: www.eleyhosereels.com/?rfsn=6...

    I want to point out that the metal bracket for Giraffe wasn’t an option when I ordered 🤷🏼‍♂️.
    BUT it is an option now and that one thing would have given the giraffe tools reels 2 extra points and would have put them at number 4 assuming all of us still didn’t pick it as one of our top 3.

    Purchased 6 hoselinks for our large property this year. One of them had an especially hard time reeling back in the last five feet and was constantly left out because it was so difficult. It was then damaged by a mower after being left out.
    Emailed hoselink and they are out of stock of the repair kit. Not having the option to get parts when accidental damage renders the entire unit useless is a huge downside for us and I feel is something a lot of people don’t consider.
    We now have a $249 hoselink that no one can use and cannot reel back in. Just something to keep in mind when investing in these. Check to make sure they are good about stocking parts or consider going with the more affordable options that are cheaper to replace.

  • @Feasible_Arms
    @Feasible_Arms Před 2 měsíci +31

    Great review. 1 suggestion. When retracting, you should release the pressure from the hose until it is fully retracted. This allows the water to escape while it winds up and prevents excessive weight from slowing it down. Also, excessive weight being placed on the bracket, which is why many of the reels have plastic brackets. They were not intended to be reeled up full of water.

Plastic suffers over time and sun and becomes porous. You then have to replace it. But that's not a problem given the prices.

    We bought a Hoselink two years ago and absolutely love it. We plan on adding more for each of our gardening zones across our 7-acre property over time. My ex-Navy husband is particularly fond of not having to manually coil hoses lol. I like that they're easy to store, it's just a matter of moving the case off of the bracket in the fall and popping it back on in the spring. By the same token, for now we have several posts with brackets installed and because we only have the one reel, we just put it in the back of the garden cart and move it as we need. Never have to worry about running it over with the mower or anything else. Hard recommend.

    I love my Hoselink. I do have 2 Giraffes also, simply for the fact that they offered a longer hose length (155 ft), which I needed. This may also be a reason to go with the 1/2. They don’t lock as easily as the Hoselink, and the charcoal grey has faded terribly. Still, serve their purpose well and in general both have been GAME CHANGERS in my garden. ❤

    • @Pro1er
      @Pro1er Před 24 dny

      The charcoal gray Hoselink will turn to ash gray in one or two years if it is exposed to a lot of Sun. They sell a cover for it but then you no longer have a charcoal gray Hoselink. If they can't use UV resistant plastic then the cover really should be included with the reel.

    Bought a Gardena for my wife she loves to garden and has a bad back to wrestle with hoses, best gift ever. Local garden center had two in daily operation, impressed with quality. Made in Germany I believe. Don’t let price get in the way of picking a good tool. 👍

    I own 2 Gardena retractable 1/2" (13mm) reels. I've had them now for 4 years and they have been flawless. I also live in Canada and I do not bring them in for the winters.... I just drain them completely before rolling them up for the winter and make sure they are disconnected. My one and only problem with them both is the flow rate. They need to provide a 5/8" option so my pressure washer gets the water volume it needs.

    I have had the Retracta's (both air and water) that I purchased from Griot's about 20 years ago. They are both mounted in my garage and the only problem I have had is the water hose unit developed a drip internally a few years ago. They shipped me a seal repair kit (very responsive) which fixed the issue. I do wish they had the auto-aligner for retraction, but not a big deal when you get used to them. Well built otherwise.

    I have a retracta, and it's worth it's weight in gold. Works every time. BTW they failed to mention they have a 10 year warranty. Yes they are noisy but they have strong recoil and the hose quality is great. You get what you pay for and believe me there is a reason the retracta is expensive. My 9 year old knows how to level wind so that isn't an issue.

    • @TheLawnTools
      @TheLawnTools  Před 2 měsíci +1

      My 9 year old does NOT know how to level wind… because he has never had to… because every other one of these hose reels does it for you. Even the cheap ones. Usually, you DO get what you pay for. But if that’s the case, go with hose link folks.

    • @OneBrightLightTN
      @OneBrightLightTN Před 2 měsíci +1

      I also have the Retracta and love it. Never had any problems, but like you said, their warranty is WAY better than all the others. Hoselink was my second choice and the only reason why I didn’t purchase it was because of the better warranty that Retracta offers

  • @dianeb95

    As usual, I bought the most expensive one this March 😆 BUT I did get it on a 10% off sale so that’s a bonus - Hoselink - AND it’s already been worth every penny not to have to struggle winding a long hose around my house. I watch the Garden Answer YT channel & that’s all they have used for years so I felt the product had been thoroughly tested by them on their multi-acre gardens. You get what you pay for! Kudos to Hoselink! Thanks for your review of all of the different hoses - it validated my purchase.

    Warranty, customer service, parts availability , and longevity are important as well. Also, Hoselink’s portability is another plus. Easily moved from one location to another with the purchase of separate bracket(s). Unfortunately, only available in 1/2” (9/16) diameter, and longest available is 88ft.

    I just ordered a Giraffe (hose not the animal) but noticed after the fact that all the top reviews on Amazon are 2 and 3 stars (or 1) either due to fading or leaking in a very short time. I seen the Glahoden and it caught my eye and now that you picked it as a top performer I'll be getting that instead. Great review, I was entertained by which garden hose to buy, that says it all.
