    Jay the reason many of us complain about these supposed "high end" monitors isn't because it's simply $1500-$3000. The reason we say it's so ridiculous is monitors like ASUS PG32UQX being THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS and they are still TOO MANY "issues?/compromises?" even at that price. if I am paying $3000 for a gaming monitor. I expect PERFECTION. There shouldn't be ANY issues at $3000. The PG32UQX is a pile of pure trash at that price. Yes, most will only use the PG32UQX for PC gaming, but at $3000 they didn't include HDMI 2.1 48Gbps inputs? are you kidding me? at $3000 and I can't use it for 4k/120Hz gaming on my PS5? you "can" get 4k/120 for Xbox X if you lower chroma sub sampling down to 4:2:0 etc. Hell no. not at $3000. Who cares if it's 1600 nits bright if you can't use it to game on with anything other than a PC? $3000 and they can only squeeze 95% DCI? not 98+ ? Latency is 7.5ms at $3000 vs the Gigabyte FI32Q at 2.7 ? seriously? Sorry, but if monitor makers want to charge $1500+ there can't be compromises. It needs to be 99.99999999999% perfect and be calibrated to 100% color correct Out of the Box.
    At $3000 I should be able to game AND do content creation. THIS monitor is over $3000 and also only has HDMI 2.0 ports. NOT ACCEPTABLE. PERIOD.

      Thank you! All of the above plus I'd say a $3000 monitor should not be built on the same black dull plastic as a $100 Dell office monitor. This thing should be made of premium materials, and for this price I would expect it built entirely of aluminium. At least Samsung tried with their G9 monitor, which still costs less than half of this but actually looks good.

    Just for a frame of reference I guess 1152 dimming zones, assuming they're evenly divided, means each zone takes up a total of 7200 pixels, or a 120 x 60 rectangle. Pretty dang good, but still not as good as per-pixel dimming on oleds; and with the first qd-oleds being available at like half this thing's price, I can't help but wonder what the pricing of a 4k oled of this caliber will be

    • @ian.williamson

      Yeah I’m surprised at the price of this when the new 34” qd-oleds are less than half the price. They are 1440p, but slightly higher refresh rate. The QD layer improves colors and sometimes also brightens the colors which effectively improves the color volume as well as most of the colors gets absorbed in the polarizer. The dimming zones improves the black level in a scene. It is a physical layer that blocks out light to improve black level. But sadly IPS panels are not known for their contrast as their inherent raised black level ruins it but in this case MiniLED is pretty helpful I guess as they have much more dimming zones which can reduce blooming vastly and can achieve more black level.

I tell you what, those 19" CRT monitors were HEAVY. We're talking 66lbs+ each. Every Tuesday morning, I'd have to set up all the computers in the training room, along with the 21 Dell Dimension desktops, and tear them all down on Thursday afternoon, for 3 months straight. My jacket size went from 42 to 50 that summer, thanks to the workout those monitors gave my shoulders.

    So pleased you mentioned about the cables, and that it came with one. It's one component that's so overlooked. Influencers and industry have spread the word that buying stupidly expensive cables is not really recommended or needed in the average setup, and the problem is that people have adopted this and will buy cheap. But as you mentioned, not getting a certified cable that can meet your displays specification, is just wasting the high refresh rate or HDR experience.

    • @shanez1215
      @shanez1215 Před 2 lety +3

      It's also about the build quality of the cables. Super super cheap cables like the ones companies often bundle in will have a thin cord which puts the wires through more stress over time. That's fine for a static setup but if you're using it with a console or moving the PC around it's not ideal.
      That being said, there really isn't a benefit to spending more than like 10-15 on a cable.

      Retro game pixel art was still made for CRT's though but that's another problem all together.
      CRT's do have wicked fast refresh rate support but that's not really needed, the main benefit is latency. But OLED is pretty low on latency.

I use 1440p and even DLSS performance (so 720p) on some of the newer games like Metro Exodus enhanced looks excellent. As you know non native resolutions scaled the normal way via the driver or a displays scaler take input lag to insane levels and nasty image quality. DLSS is a god send to me as i like as close to 200fps in games to minimise motion blur and have that connected feel with controls while still getting a 1440p image or close enough it looks the same.
