My understanding is that this song is based on a old Russian tradition that the river is the border between the living and the dead. The subject of the song is a young girl whos mother died and left her with strangers. They are now giving her in marriage to someone she does not care for and she has came to the river to ask her mother's' spirit what she should do. The spooky voice was that of her mothers spirit telling her she was there.
Your understanding is not entirely correct. This is really an old Russian ritual song at a wedding. There are many variants of this song, but the content is based on the sorrowful appeal of the orphan bride for his dead parents , asking their "blessing" to the marriage,and the excitement of moving into someone else's family because she was alone and no one to stand up for her if anything ( has no parents and brothers) . The atmosphere of the production and the "scary" moments in the sound are made by the Director in order to emphasize the difficult state of mind of the "orphan bride", there is no "mother's whisper" and other spiritual moments.

@@EmiPellegrinoMusic That is not just mom, that is one of the Angels that walk among us. Diana was left in the cold streets of Moscow at age 3 with a broken collarbone. Her family ended up with her but she was such a broken child she could not speak. They gave her up to an orphanage which if you know Russian orphages are not nice places. She was the lucky one - her 8 siblings all died thanks to her drug infested streetwalker birth mother. This Angel of a lady working at the orphanage adopted Diana nurtured her and seeing she had speaking difficulties put her in singing lessons. The rest is history and the power of music. Kudos to all Music teachers, all of mine forever changed my life.
@@brianproctor411 Not Moscow it was in the Far East Primorskij Kraj near the town of Arsenyev. The rest is basically correct- the adoptive mother took her first to Toggliatti to get away from her birth mother but she now lives in Moscow thaanks to the generous spirit if Viktor Krutoy. I got this from a documentary on her in Russian from the You are super people. I speak the lingo so this is the true version.

По сути это разговор главной героини и образа-реки.
Существует около 30 вариантов этой песни, но основой содержания каждого из вариантов являются горестные обращения невесты-сироты к умершим родителям, выспрашивание у них "благословения" и "снаряжения" на брак, в семью к чужим людям. Песня исполнялась в различные моменты обряда. В основном на просватаньи, на девичнике, при отъезде к венцу.
С первого же эмоционального обращения к реке, с фиксации ее необычного состояния - «не колыбнешься», песня намечает тревожно-грустный характер всех последующих картин, подчеркивает душевное состояние главной героини, которая «не улыбнется».

Only orphaned children participated in it.so no one there chose students as in voice.judges are very big people in the Russian music show business. they evaluate the talent itself and the performances.Diana received the Grand Prix of this show( and a lot of people agree with them) they try to press the button so that not for a second do not miss the performance of Diana(in the show "Voice", no one pressed the voice of 13-year-old Diana.)
