Apart of being one of the nicest airliner ever build, the MD-11 is always fascinating to watch on landing and rotation at take-off. You always fear that the bird would not have enough pitch authority as you can see the amount of elevator rudder being used and see how slow the plane is to react in pitch following rudder movement. Niiice !
Nice catch for the first one - that bears the blue underbelly of the short-lived Qualiflyer livery, from October 2000 for only a few months before they repainted back into their scheme with the grey underbelly! I believe only two MD-11s were painted in that scheme - HB-IWA and -IWB.
Some of them, yes. HB-IWF was lost in September of 1998. However, some of these MD-11's in the video retain the "Swiss" titles in interim colors, so some of these were filmed 2002/2003 as well.
Having been able to fly in an MD-11 when I was younger. I still have respect for those great planes. Thank You Just Planes for showcasing a marvel of aircraft history
there great planes indeed!. but hey you could still fly in one. World airways, & KLM still operate there MD-11 on passenger services. and this bird will still be around for many more years to come as this is a very populer aircraft within the cargo airlines.
Let those who parted with us when swissair 111 fell into the ocean taking the innocent souls with them. May they Rest In Peace. Swiss111 at 3:33. #RIPSWR11 hb iwf
3:35 that plane CRASHED!! Because swissair flight 111 (Fire in the cockpit caused by the IFEN or In-Flight Entertaiment Network units added for swissair another MD-11/Boeing 747 was also found to have this problem after the crash SAD TO SEE SUCH A SEXY PLANE GO😢😢😢😥😥😭😭)
It's an MD-11 with the Qualiflyer alliance livery aka the blue belly. It was introduced quite a bit after the DC-10 was long retired from Swissairs fleet.
The DC-10 may have been slightly unsafe in the 70s due to the cargo door issues, but once that was rectified, it became one of the most reliable airliners in history.
3:31 actual footage of HB-IWF, involved in Flight 111
HB-IWF SWISSAIR 111 R.I.P what amazing footage you've got of this bird, thank you justplanes

HB-IWF, the plane that failed in fire in 1998.

3:33 this MD-11 was involved in the crash of Flight 111
Swissair, the pride of Switzerland. What a shame for this country and politics to let this airline go so bad!

1:05 that's the fastest (in terms of speed not distance) takeoff I've ever seen! :() :) It looks even faster than any Concorde takeoff ever was!
I thinks it’s sped up, footage looks a bit judderey, might be wrong
My dear Swissair!!!!!

2:56 classical MD-11 bounced landing...
3:32 Rest in peace Swissair 111
I think the first one is a blue livery dc 10
Yh its a md11 with blue belly

Was this before Swissair 111?
Some are shot before and some after
3:35😓💔
Were these videos taken before the crash of Swissair 111?
Abdulrahim Adar OF COURSE HOW IS HE SUPPOSED TO FILM THIS PLANE TAXI WHILE IT WAS IN 918182377337 PIECES????
Abdulrahim Adar. HB-IWF WAS Swissair 111. RIP 3:34
Yes look at 3:34 that is the md11 in the crash

3:34 Swiss air 111 crash
The DC 10 was an unsafe plane, I hate it
This isnt the DC-10, its the MD-11
These are MD-11s you moron. Slight stretch to the fuselage and the addition of winglets.
Md 11 not dc 10 it just longer with winglets and increase range
The DC-10 may have been slightly unsafe in the 70s due to the cargo door issues, but once that was rectified, it became one of the most reliable airliners in history.
747 also had door issues, wire issues, explosions, 737 Max… well, several models have issues, not just DC-10
