- McKayla Maroney sends shockwaves through the crowd with not only her super high-flying first vault (which ties for the highest execution score of the whole qualifications), but then goes and sticks her second vault! With these vaults, McKayla qualified 1st into the vault event finals.

The camera wasn’t even ready for her height on that first vault. She flew! Insane talent.

If she did her EF vault here, she probably still would’ve qualified to the final, that’s how good she was
LOL of course she would have. She won silver in vault finals with her event final vault. It is both how amazing she is and how godawful the vault field was this year. Izbasa's gold medal vaults wouldn't have even beaten her temmate at the 2004 Olympics, 8 years earlier. The German girl who came 4th had crummy vaults and was still probably robbed of a medal. Not only did Maroney fall but the Russian who won bronze practically fell on 1 of her 2 vaults too. Poor Sacramone, her 4th place vaults in Beijing would have won gold in London for sure. And 2016 wasn't much better apart from Biles of course. It seems the girls don't focus much on vaulting anymore, atleast not the non All Arounders who have a 2nd vault.
@@garlandoenglish3000 I had really wanted McKayla and Alicia to be in vault finals, sadly Alicia wasn’t picked because she doesn’t do bars. And true, I think some of the all arounders have/had the potential to be in vault finals, like Shawn Johnson and Jordyn Wieber. They both had Amanars, so they were definitely capable of a decent second vault
@@mht4908 There was no chance McKayla and Alicia would both be on the team with only 5 members. No chance. Maybe if it were a 6 member team, but even then it would be a stretch when Marta emphasizes team. One only competes 2 events (Alicia), and other you wouldn't want in team finals in a million years although she could fill in on prelims in emergency on 2 events (Maroney on bars and beam). If Alicia still had her floor or Maroney perfected atleast 1 of her bars or beam to be team final usable like her floor it would be possible.
We talk about the vault in the TF - but I bet you the Amanar here was higher than that TF vault. Just pure adrenaline & excitement of the Olympics. She flat out flew.
"They oversee" yes, DESPITE their lack of action, Mckayla and other gymnasts were able to perform amazingly, not thanks to them.
The way these girls are treated behind the scenes is disgusting! Things need to change.

sí, muchas de ellas sufrían mientras que EUA se colgaba medallas. Yo creo por eso ella luego de sus primeros olímpicos se retira. Tenía mucho más que dar, pero tal vez para ella el éxito a costa de su dolor no era opción. 😭
