GO PRO FEEDBACK : The "fish eye" type effect of the wide angle isn't nice to watch. It's distracting, and kinda makes my head hurt. Not so bad for fixed shots, but Mrs. Wizard moving around is MUCH better with the handycam. And on the intro, you can see how the lens smudges the lights in the background. The white balance in the interior is terrible - the light is too strong, and in too limited an area. And as it's positioned behind the camera, there is a shadow of the camera. Not great. Not sure why you changed, but please go back to a handycam. Just my suggestion. A great car and video as always

Remember that Mrs Wizard is trying it out first time, give her a while until she works out the fine adjustments for the best quality possible, I for one find the GoPro to be a very nice upgrade given that the other channels (Hoovie, Tavarish, Jared, Elliot) all use one.

The M113 and M112 are great engines. Plug changes with valve cover gasket repair is the best process. Getting to those plugs with VC on is a bear. Typical leaking is found at; the oil separator, oil filter housing, timing cover plug and cam plug. The exhaust manifold is marked A/B for plug wire corresponding to the coil packs marked A/B and K/G for wire (length) designation on the plug caps.

    I’ve had a 1996 R129 SL 500 for eight years.
Believe it or not I still occasionally get a thumbs up on the road, particularly with the top off.
Although it was a one owner car the owner had pretty much neglected it other than oil changes for some years. I’ve probably spent $20,000 in maintenance bringing it back. Including a new factory remanufactured five speed transmission
This transmission is now pretty much bulletproof as long as you change the fluids and filters every 40 to 60,000 miles however it went through about three major revisions until by 2000it was pretty well sorted out.
The main problem with finding these cars is that with them being so inexpensive at the moment a lot of them have been neglected in maintenance.
And a lot of owners in these forums like to brag about how low mileage their cars have what their garage queens and I like to tell them take it on a cross-country trip and you’ll start seeing some problems generally.
But it’s a car that Mercedes-Benz chief of design at the time, Bruno Sacco, said that it’s one of his best designs

After checking all over the place for a short or fault. Found it was just a simple fuse. However after checking the fuses. Owned it 6 years now - best car I ever had even better that the 2007 CLS320 CDI driven by the wife - another future classic in my view - the car not my wife! My SL has always had an ever so slight oil leak on the timing cover - its like mist not liquid - been told its common and to ignore it - so far so good. Changed out the ECU on the hood and got a lifetime guarantee on the rebuild. Problem with these cars is that Mercedes has stopped making some spares so if you lose a key you are in a world of pain. However that is a small price to pay for owning one of the best cars on the road, but look out for rust on the front wings. The panoramic roof is a must to compete the package in Winter - it weighs a ton and takes 2 to get it off and you need room to store it. Great car that should last forever if you respect it!

(Kid didn’t know what he was doing and I beat him off the line and he couldn’t catch me) it was smooth 5 speed automatic, 16-21 mpg, SO reliable, hands down my favorite car I have EVER owned! Friday night, 12/11/2015, on my way home from work, rural two lane road with a popular fish place right e Tennessee river, a car made a left hand turn into the parking lot in front of me, a pickup truck made a left hand turn in front of me. Car stopped. Pickup truck stopped. In my lane. I tried to swerve to the left and struck the truck behind the passenger rear wheel. Spun him out of the way, down into the right hand ditch, hit bedrock and went airborne. Troopers accident report said I was airborne about 30 feet the car landed front first and slide sideways down the ditch to a halt about 3 feet from a 10 feet deep drainage ditch. I was life flighted to Nashville with a broken back. L3 vertebrae was a “Bursting Fracture”. 6 months to recover (I’ll use a cane the rest of my life) and lost My favorite car I’ve ever had!

It's like when Porsche released 996. It was so cheaply made car, compared to 964 and 993 which were superb quality. The base build was from Boxter. 964, 928 and 993 were actually so expensive to make that Porsche didn't make any profit from them and almost went to bankruptcy in 1995 but Boxter and cheap 996 saved their ass financially. Mercedes W140 and W129 were still overengineered but their successors were much worse quality and more cheaply made. Not bad cars but not at the same level as the old ones. W129s will definitely increase in value in the next 10 years.

Wizard, I enjoyed you Vinwiki epidode. I.am very glad for your quietly spoken example.
Mrs Wizard, I appreciate being included in the tryout of the new camera system. I hope you have the time to really evaluate its advantages further. And there are one or two things that are startlingly good.
But, maybe this would be an example of something an experienced camera operator once told me: To be able to ask a manufacturer or distributor to borrow it for the weekend. Then take it back.
And, Mrs Wizard, I think you did a very good job on the video.

Go pro has a little distortion on the close up shot of the engine at the beginning of the video. Otherwise it is absolutely perfect! I drove that car through a canyon in the hills of Glendale California and it was the V8 model, and it was so perfect! I would love to get one now. I’ve had the S430 and put 180,000 miles on it with zero problems other than a suspension arm bushing squeak. I love the S430 was a 2003 model and if you drove gently you can get 30 miles per gallon on road trips. I bought the car brand new and Kemp mobile one synthetic oil in it the whole time and I asked the guy how tight is my engine pointer had about 140,000 miles on it. He said that the engine was like brand new. This was the guy at the smog testing place so you know the rings or in perfect shape.

The pink truck turned RED with the new camera! That's awesome. I see some reflection from the lights, which could be a lens not cleaned with the proper cloth. The brightness does not auto adjust, which would be nice, so it could light up the dark areas and show color on the bright ones. Not sure if it has the option of 2K at 60 fps or 4K at 60 fps, but I think 2K is fine, 4K would last a long time as that is the current standard. The colors are beautiful, I think the focus could be enhanced, not sure if that's the camera's fault or the editing software's limit. Consider consulting other CZcams friends, they would know a lot more.

On top of that the supple rubber should make it more comfortable as well. Final argument is that it is much safer (old tires are really unsafe). If you want a non-appliance/non daily car you've got to accept you will more likely age out tires than wear out tires. But that is the price you pay. It was great to see such a positive review of a car I have owned for 5 years. I replaced my 2004 BMW Z4 with a 2001 SL500 as I wanted a more reliable German car going into retirement. I had the 'Sealed for Life' transmission serviced per the recommendations and have had to change the struts/dampers/brakes which was quite expensive but should be good for many, many years. The soft-top still functions but potential hydraulic cylinder leaks, (I think there are 11 of them), is never far from my mind. I think the seal kits are fairly cheap but getting at some of the cylinders can be difficult. The only other major issue is the evaporator is leaking so no AC. As I live on Vancouver Island this is not really an issue and the cost of the fix, (18 hours labour to remove and reinstall the dash), is another deterrent to getting it done. Lastly I have a slight rocker cover gasket leak which I will attend to myself. Question; the steering has always been fairly vague which I just put down to the age of the car. But I have been told there is adjustment on the steering box that can improve the steering feel. Is that correct?
    Keep up the good work!

I think if you're looking for low mileage luxury cars like this probably the best place would be an estate sale. A lot of the time, older people figure "Well I'll probably buy one last new car, may as well make it something nice, something I always wanted" and so they get something like a Mercedes-Benz or a big Lexus or something, and then they just don't drive it very much. They're also commonly retired to somewhere with a warm-weather climate where salt doesn't eat it.
