  • Today on the farm we are using something old...but NEW TO US! We disc up a patch of ground with a 1965 DIESEL 4020, then follow close behind with a 1965 GAS 4020 hooked up to a planter. Sweet corn is officially in the ground and growing. Be sure to check out the other videos I have up about planting, and stick around to see the results. Do you have any questions I can answer? As always, I am so grateful that you chose to spend some of your time here with me on the farm in Nebraska. I hope you have a blessed day, and we'll see you next time!

Well done, wonderful 4020's!! You need to get front weights on the planter tractor as the 6 row 7100 keeps lifting your front axle off the ground for safe steering and handling. I used to plant with a 6 row lister (JD) with dry fertilizer boxes and those front weights where much safer on my 1968 IH 856 (compares hp to the JD 4020 and planted at 5 mph.

Another great video Laura; once again, with all the bigger tractors and modern tech. Sometimes life just calls for some old fashioned gear and chain driven dirt working. That's when driving tractors was a real art! Open air cabs, the smell of freshly-turned dirt, the breeze in your face, the "GPS" was a visual point far ahead (or flags, if needed). Those old workhorses still get the job done (albeit quite a bit slower than all the huge modern equipment). Thanks for using those old tractors, and sharing it with us oldtimers!

I grew up in Central Illinois but have been living in Southern California now for many years after I left the USMC I stayed here because of the economic reasons and I see this young lady and I remember my childhood on the farm and remember my (4) years in FFA. I remember young ladies like Laura that I grew up with that knew how to do everything because they had good Folks, a Mother and Father that taught them how to exist on the land and farm. I remember when John Deere brought out their 4020 model. It was really expensive for a Farmer to invest in but the 4020 like the old Johnny popper (D) are still going today even with years of serious neglect. That shows you the kind of America we were back then. Keep Going Ms. Laura and your little Brother. G-D Bless you all....

This takes me back to my childhood. I was 6 years old when we bought 2 x 4020's. They were used to plow; 6 share plows. I was so keen as a youngster to go for my first go on one of them. They were the first John Deeres with power steering! An absolute pleasure to use. Very reliable tractors. They are still running on my cousin's farm in South Africa.

Seeing old iron brings back a flood of memories. The the only computer is the brain of the driver.
Thanks for sharing and keeping the old alive

I fell in love with the 4020 in the early seventies I moonlighted in evenings plowing, discing, roller harrowing in northern Wy did that for a couple years then the farmer that I was working for got a 4430 fell in love with that one also because of the quiet cab and heating and air I did that every spring and fall for 12 years enjoyed every minute
