Any good gambler knows when to cast their lots and abandon their lost quarries… and they likewise know how to identify another esteemed player of the craft. He was no different, that one they called a ‘stoneheart.’
You caught his suggestive glances more than once in Penacony’s Sterling Star Casino. Magenta and cerulean eyes watching behind tinted shades at your black painted nails caressing the hand dealt to you in poker… How you would roll obedient dice at the craps table, point at your lucky numbers in roulette, and reign uncontested at blackjack. Even the house was wary.
“Mind if I have this seat, dear?” Aventurine asks you kindly, a cigarette sticking out of his mouth. You can smell the tobacco on him even more strongly than it already was in the casino air. His cologne is somewhat intriguing - like coffee and earth when it rains.
With a calm sweeping motion, you move the lower part of your black dress to fully uncover the floor below the seat at your right
“Knock yourself out.” You pretend not to know who, or rather, _what_ he is. Returning to your current game, you take a brusque sip of the sparkling water in your hand. “Hit me.”
The dealer flips a card out of the neat stack onto the table. A queen of spades? Hmm, that face card should have appeared later, but no matter. Aventurine takes his seat, and notices the gold earrings shaped like crescent moons you are wearing behind your cascade of jet black hair. “What say you to a few drinks, hm? My treat.”
“I’m afraid alcohol isn’t my thing anymore.” You relent a little, and turn ever so slightly so he can get a glimpse of your matching ruby red lips and the beauty mark below your right cheek, “But I heard there is a pretty good steakhouse not far from here. Tempted?”
His practiced smirk breaks a little, and you can hear the genuine relief in his voice, “Ah you mean Alastor’s. I haven’t been there in a while actually. But, you’re right, lady. They have some of the best food in Penacony.”
“Mm. Fabulous. We’ll leave after I clean house.” Your feline eyes narrow back coldly at the dealer. “Hit me again.”
“Well now. Are you sure?” Aventurine chuckles softly after taking a long drag on the cigarette, “You’re already at eighteen.”
“Call it a woman’s intuition.” You muse with another sip, still refusing to make eye contact with him.
The dealer flips up your card from the stack, and just as predicted, a three of diamonds falls onto the pile. A perfect 21 that even managed to make the man sitting beside you do a double take. Rather unceremoniously, you take the credits he forks over and make to leave, with Aventurine walking alongside you.
“After you,” He opens the door and motions for you to pass him. Against your better judgment, you finally make direct eye contact with Aventurine. He seems to have lost himself in those bright emerald eyes of yours.
“Why, thank you.”
Your walk down the venue to Alastor’s was… interesting. Even past the haze of spotlights and raining confetti, you could feel the eyes of passerby as heads turned to see you, or rather, Aventurine. His reputation precedes him… but it didn’t take a genius to tell not in a good way. Somehow, you feel as if this wasn’t the first time he received this kind of attention. Nor would you be the first to walk home with him…
At Alastor’s, the two of you had a nice, but relatively superficial conversation. Mainly about Aventurine’s own history with the IPC and your status as an envoy of The Family. After eating, he offered to pay for the meal. Though faint, you instantly recognized those tiny specks of white powder on the edge of his credit card.
“At least let me walk you home, dear.” Aventurine extended his arm to you. There are a few small discolored spots - needle marks - on his forearm.
“May I ask you a… personal question?” You intertwine your hand with his as the two of you step onto an empty trolley car.
Aventurine was just about to light another cigarette, but pockets his zippo lighter in lieu of your asking,
“Alright, what would you like to know?”
“Do you…” There is a moment of hesitation. “Do you find comfort in the arms of strangers?” You need not look at the man to know his smile faded. “What I mean to ask is… Are you happy, Mr. Aventurine?”
“…”
Silence.
“You know,” A small, saddened smile forms on your ruby lips, “you never did ask me what my name was. I’m assuming you didn’t ask what the names of the girls before me were either, right?”
“At first, I did. Now it just hurts to know.”
More silence. Even the roaring sound of rollercoasters and blaring band performances seem muted in the distance.
“Do you want to be happy?”
“Yes…I do.”
“Are you looking for it among the tar and snow?”
“…”
“Listen. I’ll make you a promise, Mr. Aventurine,” you step toward him, caressing his face with your free hand. He closes his eyes feeling the warmth of your touch. “When you are better… truly better, and ready, come find me again. I’ll be waiting for you.” You place a small kiss on his cheek, tell him your name, your real name, and step off the trolley and into the night.

Was that what I truly had in mind before stepping into the casino? Such expensive elegance, yet it was not enough compared to the very man himself staring at me from across the hall. Who was he? What was his name? And why was he even looking at me? As cash flowed and champagne was poured, with every sip I took, the gamble I played with fate that night still remained in my memories as clear as day.
"My name is Aventurine."
His voice had lured me in like a moth to a flame. How was that even possible? As I was bedazzled by those eyes that shone brighter than a million dollar diamond necklace. "What is yours, my dear?"
"Why do you care, sir? Since when has the casino ever been a place for small talk and kind strangers?" I asked, gazing up at him with a glass in my hand. "Are you here to join me at a table then?"
His lips tilted upwards a little, "I'm confident in my abilities and I won't exactly say no to a good gamble or two, what do you say?"
"Nah, I'm more interested in something a little more.....risky." I challenged him, suddenly having a nice idea as I playfully caressed that soft silky fur coat draped around his shoulders, my hands leading closer to his cheek. "Unless...you're not who I expect you to be?"
The heavenly men who stood before me pulled me in closer by the waist, tilting up chin upwards, "Now you're talking, let's play a game then. I'll bet 20 million you'll be coming back to me for more, my dear, for something that is far more addictive than money and booze, hm?"
I scoffed, licking my lips in a smirk, "And I bet all of my money you'll end up losing anyway. What makes you so confident I'll be easily swayed by you, huh? Did you really think I'm an easy target here?"
Aventurine chuckled lowly, one hand smoothly taking my glass and taking a sip. He then leaned in and gave me a deep, sensual kiss, the taste of expensive wine quenching my thirst. My grip on his strong arms tightened, gasping for air in between kisses, desperate for more. He smirked triumphantly, his kisses trailing downwards to my neck and biting down, causing me to gasp and let out a breathy sigh. Amidst these blinding lights, the temptation of sin and pleasure, made me realize how we were all nothing but mortals in the flesh, victims to our fantasies and desires. Was there any wrong in such a thing? I could feel Aventurine carrying me in his arms, towards a much more quiet area, to a private room. He led me inside, all the while whispering dirty words and sweet nothings into my ear, driving me all the more crazy.
As I saw him lock the room door, I swore deep down inside to never lose this game of playful love and money. He carefully placed me down onto the lush, velvet couch, teasingly removing his coat while gazing down hungrily at me. His eyes had a dangerous look in them and I continued to drown deeper in those beautiful shade of pale blue. Like the ocean's surface concealing those mysteries within.
Stunning.
He leaned down, hands trailing all over my body, the feeling of my bare skin and the touch of his warmth set me on fire. Was it the alcohol? Or the true sensation of pure lust and desire? Such a faded blur between the two. I chose not to think anymore.
"A game of love and money, you take my breath away....." Aventurine planted a seductive kiss on my forehead, "Let's have some fun, shall we?"

Things between you and Aventurine hadn’t ended so well, and your family had told you to stay away from him. “One night.” Aventurine whispered, interrupting your thoughts. “I want one night with you to make up for that .. unfortunate ending.” Taking into consideration both of your personalities, you suddenly remembered why your relationship had ended. But you couldn’t go beyond what your body and heart wanted. You couldn’t deny that you still thought about him, that you still wanted him.
“You know you’re not supposed to be here.” You couldn’t stand to think that he’d been completely fine without you; but his actions right now proved otherwise. Here he was, begging at your door to spend a night together, and you knew that you’d already made up your mind: you wanted it. But no way would you let him know that right off the bat, no. He had to earn you.
“Come on,” He slurred. You knew he’d probably had something to drink before coming here, which sort of disgusted you. What were you, some drunk hookup? But drunk actions were sober thoughts. “Just let me prove myself.”

You would hide that part of you. “I don’t know, Aventurine.” Your voice slithered, you were obviously teasing him. You got the reaction you wanted when he growled with pleasure, taking a step towards you. “If I let you in, you have to behave.” You grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, pulling him in close to you and shutting the front door, immediately pressing him against the closed door as you locked it. Aventurine, not used to you behaving like this, was so into it. He knew you wanted him; and you knew he wanted you. It was just lust, you told yourself which calmed your nerves. Just lust.
“I’ll behave,” He whispered, grabbing you by your slim waist and pulling your body even closer to his, closing any space left between the two of you. His face was close to yours, so close you could feel his breath- and it sent a shiver down your spine. You wrapped your arms around his neck, letting his hands travel over your luxurious curves. He leaned down and placed his lips on your neck, beginning to kiss your soft skin. “I just want you.”
A sigh traveled past your lips as you let your head fall back, making sure to keep him pinned to the door. “You have to earn me.” You whispered, your hands traveling down, feeling his slim waist and feeling how badly he wanted you. And oh, maybe this was more than just lust. But you wouldn’t admit that right now.
Aventurine growled again, his hands gripping your hips. “Then you better be ready.” He started to grind against you a little bit, both of you letting a gasp out. “You’re really quite the person, you know?”
A man suited with figure-hugging attire sat in the taller chair, leg crossed over the other with a cocky smirk spread across his face. His assertive, lilac eyes glazed over the man in front of him, as his grin widened. In his hands, a casino token flipped through each of his fingers as the man before him cowered. Held down by two of his men, with his wrists in cuffs pressing against his back. A criminal on his knees, at his feet; fitting for a man with such power as the owner of a casino and a relatively successful mafioso.
“What a sad sight to see someone as successful as you once were. To see you kneeling at my feet begging for your life, reducing you to a useless pile of flesh.”
The man had tears in his eyes, though Aventurine could see through his mask as if it were as transparent as glass. His smile falters into a scowl, before flipping the coin in the air and grabbing it in the blink of an eye. Disapeparing without a trace, he raises both of his hands in a surrendering position, showing that the coin was gone. The criminal seems to watch in curiosity, yet in fear.
Standing from his chair, his gloved hands are then shoved into his pant pockets. Each step of his held a menacing weight to them, as his gaze held a degree of coldness to it. Just enough to make the man writhe and squirm underneath the weight of his men who held him down.
“Look at me in the eyes.”
He did so without hesitance, tears still coating his eyes; though in his heart he was terrified, he tried his best to keep up his (frankly) terrible acting.
I guess his head turned elsewhere, because his face was forcefully turned to his, snapping the criminal out of his thoughts. Hands gripping his jaw, as the man’s soft, purple eyes seemed to grow darker the longer they held eye contact. The longer Aventurine stared, the more the man could sense an impending doom upon him.
A minute passes, and he scoffs, rolling his eyes.
“You’re pathetic.”
Standing up and turning on his heel, he walks away from the man. Slipping on his strawberry-tinted glasses with an exasperated sigh, he turns his head and gives his men a signal. A single nod.
Pop. The man once squirming now lied unmoving on the cold, wooden floors. Blood pooling beneath his cold, lifeless body, as the sound of the shot rang in his ears like a gong. Flicking his hand toward the two other individuals in a dismissive manner, he turns his head once more. His back facing them.
“You two are dismissed. I’d like some time to myself.”
He turned toward his men, who bowed and left the room without another word, turning off the lights as they left. Once standing in a golden-lit room, with warm colors spread about every square inch of the room. Now engulfed in a corrupted, cold, eerie darkness, as the only light in the room came from the smaller window that sat near the ceiling.
Plopping himself down on his chair, he retrieves the token from his pocket and continues to flip it between his fingers as if it were second nature; a consistent little trick of his hands. A sigh leaves his lips, as his eyes follow the smooth flow of movement he performed. Looking up and scanning the room with nothing else to think about or do, his eyes catch an unusual sight.
Then, a soft yet authoritative voice rings from the corner of the room. His eyes dart toward the location of the speaker, and he’s met with a unique mix of red and purple eyes. Glowing in the darkness, he could almost make out the woman’s features just by the glow alone.
“Are you going to leave the poor man lying on the floor?”
It's a woman’s voice. A British accent made her voice sound like butter spread across toast; like creamer to coffee. Soothing, yet she had a power radiating from her that he had yet to feel from other mafia leaders. It was overwhelming, as if her presence demanded attention from anyone within her surrounding radius.
Recovering from his surprised, taken aback expression, his lips curve upward into a smile as his eyes settle. Leaning back with his leg crossed over the other, his hand laid in his lap with the other settled just below his chest. Holding his signature token between two fingers, as it’s stationed there.
“Indeed. And, you are?”
He flips his glasses up and over his head, brushing back some of his bangs; though some strands freed themselves from this action as they bounced back into his face. However, rather than asking where she came from, he decided to figure out who in the world this person was. Though, his question received an answer; a face, to be exact. One of which he feared and had previously suspected the moment he noticed her unique eye color.
Or eye colors, he should say.
Walking out of the darkness, her heels echo out into the dark room. Hands in her pockets, her short yet elegant stature with her ponytail swinging behind her, bangs framing her face out like a sculpture, as if it complimented her softer, yet sharp facial structure. A slightly rounded face, but a slimmer jaw. Her long, white eyelashes that resembled snowfall on a cold winter day, paired with the sharpest gaze he’d ever seen. Yes, this was exactly who he thought it was. Aside from her eyes, he almost immediately takes notice of the facade she wore; cold, and sharp. Aventurine chuckles at this, as he comments on it.
“Such a scary face.”
He notices the shlightest shift in her expression, which only widened his smirk. But a moment later, she speaks up in this specific tone of voice; a similar, velvety texture to the woman he had in mind, which further confirmed his suspicion.
“My name is Y/N L/N. Pleased to be acquainted with you.”
Ah, so it was her. The middle child of the L/N family, with an older brother to be feared and a missing younger sister. It was no secret her family was powerful, nor were her family affairs exactly ‘private.’ Most rumors came from this family, because they all shared one trait. Soft, bright, white hair, though in different lengths and styles. Holding the same shade of white, providing a breathtaking similarity to the the moonlight that pooled through the window. Providing a dramatic lighting effect upon the both of them, as it brings out some of the pair’s best features.
“Y/N, huh?” Aventurine chuckles.
“What is someone of your stature doing here? Do you have business with me, or do you perhaps plan to kill me?”
The woman's expression can't be wavered, as she holds a cold front. A cold exterior, though she was incredibly known for her fierce, yet seemingly emotionless expression. She kept walking until she was about 5 feet from where he sat, then her heels ceased their echoing steps.
“If I planned to kill you, it would be under orders and I would not be standing here.”
That may be true, but he couldn’t just let his guard down quite yet. Though, he was amused by this woman’s behavior. Often times, she only came to him for favors or deals; oftentimes, holding no specific reason nor quality to them.
But this time, he could tell she was in for something different. HIs thoughts were cut off when her breath brushed against his neck, making his breath hitch and his eyes slightly widen. Sending shivers down his spine, he clenches the token in his gloved hands.
“I’m here for a different favor."
Gulping the lump down his throat, his lips part as a shaky breath escapes his lips. The corners of his mouth begin to rise into his signature smirk.
“Is that so? Then please, enlighten me, Ms. Y/N.”
Just then, she spins his chair to face her, as she stood just inches away from his face. With her hands grabbing the back of the chair as it sat next to his shoulder, she’d stepped closer to him with a soft blush painting her cheeks.
“Spend a night with me.”
Aventurine’s eyebrows raised, as a glimmer of light shone in those intoxicating eyes of his. With a single chuckle, he stands from his chair. Towering above her, only oneof his hands occupy his pant pocket as the other grabbed her jaw. His fingers pressing into her skin, as he pulled his face toward his. Centimeters apart, she can feel his every breath as it grows labored.
Her lips are parted, as she’s standing as still as possible. Eyes slightly widening, as the colors shift and change from a dominant purple to a solid, glowing red. Her breaths grew hot and heavy as his thumb strokes her soft, supple bottom lip in a teasing fashion, as he licks his lips.
Aventurine’s voice lowered, as its texture roughened ever so subtly. Volume lowered, his tone following suit as the seductive look in his eyes reprograms each and every single thought of hers. No matter sexual or not.
“Say less, my little ice princess.”
His breath touched her face, fanning against her lips as her hands had found their way to his chest. She was able to feel his racing heart thumping against her palm, as he ever so slightly leaned in closer to her, pressing her body against his as his grip on her waist tightened. Then, whispering ever so sensually into her ear, as his lips brush against its outer shell, his voice comes out as a low, sultry purr.
“I didn't want to be alone tonight anyways.”
