Water types are very abundant in the Pokemon games, but quite slow on the whole. With that said, what if we got access to the full spectrum of Water encounters in Pokemon SoulSilver including the post-National Dex ones to take on the Kanto Region... could they beat the game's hardest challenge - a hardcore nuzlocke with only Water types?

We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon SoulSilver Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Water types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

The ex-rocket grunt was in unova and was married and had a kid. The house was in icirrus city but was only accessible in winter. I think in B2W2 you could talk to one of the guys in the house and the Route 10 theme would play.

I love how you do the Kanto section, I do the same way and have level cap for all the gyms as to not make it mundane, always got a bit annoyed when youtubers just skip over the Kanto section when they had plenty of encounters

OMG! I'm so glad that I wasn't the only kid who had no idea how to leave the starting house in the first Pokemon game. I thought I had tried everything and I even asked my friends who were no help at all. It took me persistently walking into each and every wall in the house to discover how to leave!

I really enjoy the little touches you have in your playthroughs. Things like noticing or reacting to dialogue, making funny little interpretations (step dad machoke in your ruby/sapphire runs is an example). It just feels like you legitimately enjoy exploring the world rather than rushing through all the fights, even though you must've played these games hundreds of times by now.

It'd be cool to see a Mono Type run in either Scarlet or Violet, especially now the DLCs are out for that extra bit of diversity, and the BB Academy is really challenging, too, with its fully EV trained Pokemon and competitive doubles format.
