  • As August comes to a close we are setting our eyes towards Fall and all that we can grow in our Victory Garden. This is the perfect time of year to sow some seeds into your garden whether it be large, medium or small. Come with me as I take you back to the very beginnings of Creekside Nursery as we revisit one of our most beloved crops, sunflowers! These are one of the easiest plants to grow from seed, and their colors are perfect for Fall. I'll even share with you what Fall veggies our family will be eating from the garden in just a matter of weeks!

    Noticed some of the landscape companies are installing these raised vegetable beds since the pandemic...... Many of them are using a Hardscape, such as blocks, bricks or stones, and they're also putting a nice seating wall on the top cap; this allows a lot of the seniors/ or the handicapped to sit on top of the raised vegetable beds. I've also noticed then placing many water spickets throughout the beds, so they can hand water along with drip/ or permanent irrigation Some are using low voltage outdoor lighting, it looks great. I would imagine in some of the colder climate they will put a cover over the some of the tender horticulture.

    I love seeing your garden. I work at a seed company, and want to tell folks to order early this year if you are buying seed. The worldwide lockdowns in spring and early summer have left us with less seed than usual, and it is best if you can get the orders in early so you can get what is available. Also, last year we were so busy, and many companies were 2 weeks behind.

    How are you watering the sunflower garden?

    • @GardeningwithCreekside
      @GardeningwithCreekside  Před 3 lety +1

      This field is not cure in irrigation so we’re just depending on the rain to water it. We’re entering into the “rainy season” here (aka rain at least 1-2 a week).

    • @GardenMinistry.
      @GardenMinistry. Před 3 lety

      Yes Here in the Carolinas we experience a lot of rain, it can be good and bad, I'm not a fan of the humidity it causes and more chances for powdery mildew problems 🥴

  • @suzannebuenaventura1743

    Do you have issues with birds stealing seeds from the garden? I do. Any recommendations?

  • @sallyrichardson4082

    Got a question - I live northeast from you in the Triad area of NC and I planted beets in the late spring. They came up and are pretty leafy things, but are doing nothing much else. Should I leave them in the ground now that it’s getting a little bit cooler? Or just pull them out and start over? Thanks for showing us your contraption for planting! I think my grandfather planted corn with something like that. Great memories! My Grandparents farmed in Union County btw. 😃

    • @GardeningwithCreekside
      @GardeningwithCreekside  Před 3 lety +1

      I would take them out and try again. Beets have a pretty quick turn around so if you planted them in the Spring you should have had them by now.

      No you didn’t. Our Spring season at the nursery was beyond what we could have predicted (all good things) and the summer garden suffered.

    Jenny, I'm sorry I come off as needy when it comes to my plants... it's because I am! My issue is really not a bad thing but more of an astonishment. My Summerific Perfect Storm Hibiscus is going into bloom again! It has about a hundred new blooms all over it! The Choco Latte has a couple new blooms on it too! I don't think they're suppose to... are they? Why are they blooming again?

    • @GardeningwithCreekside
      @GardeningwithCreekside  Před 3 lety +1

      Oh honey you’re not needy! I’m not sure why they are reblooming, but don’t question a good thing 😂. I have noticed that one of mine has started putting on new flowers too.
