- Here is a home video my father took during the Toy Story showing at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, California. This video was taken in December 1995. Before the film I think there was a bit of a stage show, but I may be confusing that with another event.
The funhouse (Totally Toy Story) was amazing. I remember playing the Toy Story video game for the Sega Genesis, drawing on art easels, an going through an army man obstacle course. And playing an alien wack-a-mole (like the one featured in the film) game. Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:
"For the November 1995 Toy Story premiere, Disney rented the next door building for Totally Toy Story, a multimedia funhouse and a promotional event for the movie."
Why does life in the past look so fun and free. You don’t ever see things like this anymore.
We can really use it when COVID is over
Could you imagine owning one of those original statues today.
I was 8 years old when my dad took me to the el Capitan theater for the totally toy story event! I still have pictures from this day. And yes, there was a stage performance before the actual movie started.
I sometimes wish I was 8 too. But instead I was 2 years old
How did you react when you saw the Walt Disney Pictures logo when it zoomed out?
Wowza! I never knew this existed 😮
Everyone was happy back then.
nope
I love this song 2:41 😀
"I knew you were right all along woody, never doubted you for a second."
-Slinky 1995
1995.. was a good year, good decade.. ❤️🇺🇲
Oh man, this hit me in the nostalgia real hard.
1:18 A 35mm print of Toy Story has been confirmed
Great eye
I really love this archival footage video, I still love to watch these kinds of video like that of like fondest memories from the past especially in the 90s like this one.
I love the glance back at Hollywood in 1995! Very nostalgic and I'm so happy to hear "The Boy Who Could Fly" theme again for the opening of the curtains at the El Capitan!
Wonderful Memories!!!
Man! This is history! I remember going to this! Unreal- I remember the Army man hopping thing haha! Glad you recorded it!
Fantastic archival footage, thank you so much for uploading this!
You're welcome, glad to do so :) Hope you enjoyed it
God, those kids are adults now and have kids. Incredible.
not necessarily all
@@scoutart1508yes all, 3 kids per adult actually
Whoa 1995 when toy story started amazing
Oh yes. Few things I noticed is: Sega Genesis version of "Toy Story 1" (as shown in 1:24) released few days before the El Capitan premiere of Toy Story 1. Also, the preview of Disney's Animated Storybook of "Toy Story 1" was shown in the premiere, because this Animated Storybook released in 1996.
I went to the El Capitan for the Toy Story event too when I was little :)
I only been to the El Capitan to see Oz the Great and Powerful and Frozen. I’m overdue to go back once the Pandemic is over.
"Toy Story" was the first film I ever saw in Theatres! I was four years-old (born in 1991) and my sister had won a contest to see an early screening of the film ( I'm not sure how long before it's North America release the early screening was) with my Mom, her friend and myself. I have no memories however, of seeing this film in theatres. I only know that for years I was terrified of Babyface (the leader of the Mutant Toys) and when my Mom recorded "Toy Story" off of "The Wonderful World of Disney" in the fall of 1997, she had to pause the recording when scenes of the Mutants played. Over 25 years after seeing it in Theatres I am adding this film to my movie collection!
You got me on the early screening part
Shame that the El Capitan theatre doesn't do those funhouses anymore.
The Chinese theater is apparently showing Goldeneye.
I only been to the El Cap but not the Chinese Theater
There are still experiences for new movies
@@ngqp Yeah but not as cool as this.
That's really cool the props the movie the playground everything! Sad the place is gone and the props are destroyed :(
aww thank you sooo much for posting this!!!
it was by far the best thing el capitan has ever done! for the past 20 years I have been waiting for another experience has awesome as this.
You're very welcome, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. :) I believe this was my only time there, so I'm glad we visited at a good event!
Is no one going to mention how he was able to record around seven seconds of footage *while watching the movie in the theater* ?
I Love Toy Story!!! It’s my most favorite movie ever!!!!
I think they may have used an early prototype cartridge for those Toy Story Sega Genesis kiosks.
Also known as the Mac OS X 10.11 Theatre
This looks so cool. I wish I wasn’t no bigger than 2 when the movie came out. That way if I was older, I would have begged my parents to take me and my two brothers to this. Well be 28 next month instead. Seeing one of my favorite movies ever on the El Capitan screen would be so much fun
I was born three weeks later. Toy Story is the earliest movie I ever remember seeing in my life. Still have the 1996 VHS tape from when I was little. What I remember most is that no matter where I went that toy story VHS tape was a tape that everyone had.
@@toogifted6491 I used to have the 1996 tape too
@@manuelorozco7760 yep if you went over a house where kids stayed they all had that tape. It’s crazy I remember that well. That movie was synonymous with being a kid at that time
@@toogifted6491 Almost like Frozen seven years ago
Yes.
thank you for this :)
Awesome video.
COOL!!!
1:17 & 1:23 Incredicar told me about that part
YAY!!!
WOWEEEE!!!
Wow.
Hey, was the "Roller Coaster Rabbit" short played before this? I've been hearing things about it being shown with this movie, with a poster as evidence. are the rumors true???
I think it did I believe
Is there more footage of the movie itself?
Only for a few seconds around the 1 minute mark, of course it looks all flickery. You're better of getting the blu-ray or watching it on Disney+ haha.
@@matarazzofamily I just watched on Disney Plus over a week ago
What Time Did It Start?
Do you have the first 10 minutes of the film at that screening?
I'm unsure, I think all I had was what is here. What were you looking for in particular?
matarazzofamily, the CG customized-Disney logo variant. Because, I wasn’t alive in 1995 and I am uncertain if it actually debuted with this film.
@@untitledjunk03 Yes, the CGI Disney castle opening logo was created by Pixar and it premiered with this film, their first feature film. I remember seeing it at this showing. I've also seen it at another showing of the film. The logo was also retained on subsequent VHS, Laserdisc, and DVD releases, I even think it's on the Blu-ray.
matarazzofamily, thanks. I remember seeing it on VHS and the 2005 10th Anniversary DVD the most. I saw the 3D version in 2009, only to be pissed that they plastered it with the current logo. But, if there’s one thing I’m dying to see the most, is *a recording of that logo from that screening.* Because I’m wondering how audiences in 1995 reacted to the exclusive CGI logo.
@@untitledjunk03 Yes if you saw Toy Story in the 90s or the early 2000s like I did, the original Walt Disney Pictures logo with the CGI white castle that fades into Andy's cloud wallpaper is shown at the beginning of the movie like it did in the original version when it was released. Anything that was made after 2009 has that logo edited out with the current Disney logo and the Pixar one added to it, which was not in the original version.
