While there are valid points made, keep in mind that lots of diverse actors are chastised on social media for “not being black/gay enough” an example of a film that struggled with this problem was a musical called “in the heights”. This filmed was based in New York’s Washington height area with a largely Latino/black communities. but many criticized it for not having enough darker actors since the movie had light skinned Latinos and African Americans. The movie was further backlashed because the director was Asian LMFAO. Another piece of media is the CW series batwomen (which is a very awful tv series) that received hate because the actress wasn’t gay enough and needed to be non-binary/gender fluid. What I’m trying to say is representation isn’t bad but it isn’t worth doing it because no matter who we try to appeal to under represented communities people will still hate it because it truly doesn’t represent them. I’m a Peruvian and I wouldn’t care much if I saw another Peruvian actor on film because I don’t see myself in that character on the basis of race but rather struggles/emotions You don’t have to be black in order to relate to Eric Gardner from the film “pursuit of happiness”. I related and had a genuine heart felt meaningful vibe from that film.
Either way hopefully this trend doesn’t spiral to more chaos as it is now in this current age 😔
wow, some of these statistics shocked me. Hollywood denying racist accusations and continuing to support white actors over other ethnic groups and minorities is only creating a bigger problem. If Hollywood supported more POC actors and actresses in mainstream media, it would eventually just become the norm. Anyway, wonderful video
