Canada's finest demo'd by Canada's finest. Thanks AK
More Neil please! Down by the river would be awesome
Neil Young, a good ole Canadian boy. Some good tunes from him over the years. Cheers from Canada.
It’s between picking and strumming, that’s the trick, can’t go too far into either, all about balance.
Many, many years ago some guy told me Neil used a "frailing" technique. I know he plays banjo, so maybe that technique crosses over into his guitar also?
This was among the first tunes tackled by a lot of players of a certain generation. "Tell Me Why" is another gem.
Yes! Is there a good tutorial for "Tell Me Why" out there?
Do I know you? LOL
Ha! My first two! And Out on a Weekend.
Fantastic 👍👍👍 thank you. Greetings from Norway.
As soon as he finishes playing I hear words between the lines of age starting......used to listen to this album constantly when I was younger
Down by the river and see the sky about to rain would be awesome to see! Keep up the awesome work!
I'm learning so much doing these lessons. I've been noodling around on guitar for 50+ years, and plateaued about 40 years ago. Doing Andy's lessons has gotten me going again. I especially like the tab and sheet music to go with each lesson (follow his link in the description). That has inspired me to learn to read music, since I'm doing it in the context learning a song that I enjoy playing. In addition to this one, I've worked through ELP's "Still You Turn Me On", Paul McCartney's "Blackbird". and Pink Floyd's "Goodbye Blue Sky". Keep up the good work, Andy!
Man, that guitar sounds so freakin good, beautiful. Wish I could afford one, alas I am stuck with my old Yamaha FG730S but I still love it.
Wow, I'm enthused to see another Neil Young tutorial from you. I've learned three of his songs through your lessons and not only are you an excellent teacher but you really capture all of the nuance to his playing. Thank you.
This has been one of my favorite songs since childhood, thanks for creating such an amazing tutorial and for making all the tutorials you do. It’s clear how much effort goes into these. So thanks for making them and I hope you keep going!
Thanks so much, fantastic lesson! Curitiba - Brazil
Great teacher top videos cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪
This channel is such a new treat for me as an guy that learned much of Neil songs by ear…no you tube back in the days. What nice and relaxed tutorials can be found here! Thin Lizzy, Van Halen….my favorites also. Big thanks to you sir!
As a 18 yo freshman at Purdue University in 1986 I was sorta lost coming from a small HS. I didn't have any friends really so to learn the campus my first weekend, I took a walk down to the levi where there was a record store and not even knowing who NY was.... I bought "Harvest". To this day I have no idea why I bought it, but I am soooo glad I did.
It was the only album I personally owned. I didn't have much money so that was the only one I bought the entire year and I was pretty proud of it. I could not afford a new one, but I want to say I paid like $9 for a used copy. I had some of my dad's albums of The Eagles, Three Dog Night, CCR, Poco (lol), Bread ..... and a few more of the sort, but I played Harvest at least once a day. CD's were just hitting the market so albums were starting to get scarce, particularly good ones like an Apple cut.
Damn if I didn't become an instant Neil Young fan. I am 55 now and still have that same album. I love it, but if I put vinyl on it is usually Decade or The White Album these days that hit the plate first. I love to play, but sometimes I just listen to your lesson and sing along whether I know how to play it or not. You do such a good job of recreating the songs...... I know this is old, but I still like going back through and hearing them again.
Fantastic lesson!.. and incredibly beautiful playing at the beginning.. very nice!.. thank you
I've been playing this for years so it's nice to see a proper tutorial of the song.
Hi Andy. Heard you're not doing too great at the moment. Hope to have you back in the saddle soon. You are a fine teacher and such pleasant company of an evening when the family are away to bed and I can get my guitar out. Wishing you good health sir. Oh and I made a donation too yesterday. Everyone should if they are getting something from these tutorials. C'mon loyal subscribers! If Andy can't work just now he can't earn so I'm sure even the smallest of donations would be welcome
The best acoustic teacher on CZcams. You offer the most detailed and accurate playing in all of your lessons
This channel is fantastic!
Been hoping for this outstanding song....and here it is.....(done properly, professionally and beautifully as always) many thanks from a huge u.k fan of this channel👌🏻🎸
You are the best teacher online I've ever followed. Thank you for providing this. I was pleasantly surprised how close I was to figuring this out on my own. Your lesson put me over the finish line!
When I first taught myself this I fingerpicked the chords. On seeing this its helped me with a couple of things I could never work out on my own, particularly the part where Young slides up 11:07 . I also like the way Young gets a percussive beat on the down stroke of his strumming with a sort of chop or maybe palm mute.
Haven't visited your site in a while. So glad to see your subscriber numbers shoot up! Well deserved. You are the best note-for-note teacher on the Internet!
Just been learning Show Me the Way to Go Home - and although this is such a distinct song and picking pattern - the chords progression basically the same - so hoping I’ve got half a chance
The descending bass line line on the D chord reminds me of Steve Winwood's " Can't Find My Way Home". As with that lesson I may tune down a whole step so I might be able to sing it too.
Yes Steve does start off in that song in a D and does sound some what similar 😊
Just like ELP song beginning and Yes..Roundabout listen to the similarities
Awesome lesson! The E and Esus section is where I needed the details....thank you!
Timing is everything
I love the way you teach.
How you walk us through the lessons.
And your mannerism
And voice are soothing
And that helps a lot !
You emphasize what
Both hands should be doing and that's important.
The video fashion is
Excellent.
Thank you for sharing your gift with us.
Bless you .
Joey from Phily.
Spot on and outstanding as always. You, Sir, are what keeps CZcams on my device.
Best man. Thanks alot
Make a donation next. Greatings from Köln, Will 🙏😘
This was the first song I learned on guitar... the X-mas of 1973
Definitely the best guitar tuition on the net...! Nothing comes closer.... 🙏🏻
Love the Neil Young stuff. I was fortunate enough to watch him practice and play a lot in Santa Cruz way back in the last century.
In the last century. Excellent stuff bro. In the 1960s/1970s, there were 1800s hombres floating around.
@@juana1483 Neil and a guy Jeff Blackburn , Craviatto and Mosley( Moby Grape guys) would play in a barn at my cousins pear farm. There were so many great musicians in that area back in the 60's and 70's."Buck" Blackburn and Young wrote the song,"Out of the Blue." They called themselves The Ducks. Short lived band and Neil moved on but the music coming out of that barn somedays and nights bring me back to those times.
Great to see you posting again. Love your lessons.
One of my very favorite songs. ❤ thank you
Hey man, i've always learn guitar on youtube (lick&riff channel), but each of your videos give me a hole new start and a lot of enthusiasm ! Merci beaucoup
"Alabama" is an awesome electric guitar tune.
Thank you for doing this.....Great Lesson!!!
hey!! i love your videos and teaching style. i’d love to see an elliott smith lesson from you. i think you’re the only guitar teacher to serve any of his songs great justice.
Well done thank you excellent lesson.
Excellent audio! Wow! great recording
Your a dream to watch on this number Andy. I’ll definitely have to go back to the beginning on this one, and get all of those little bits down correctly, it then sounds absolutely pucker!
Such a beautiful sad song, I love the way you explain it. Must find more time to learn this.
Its so strange i was working out the turn around lick just the other day.. cool
Amazing lesson per usual
Well done! Love it.
Thanks a lot, you always get them bang on, well done.
Great song ! Been learning from your stuff for many years , thks alot
Another great lesson. Thank you so much. Appreciated.
Nice production and instruction. Not what I'd call a party song, I prefer to save this one for interventions.
Yet again ... DAMN, you're a great teacher. Thank you, this song means a lot.
Appreciate your lessons my man
outstanding lesson
Your lessons are awesome
Your tone is awesomer 👍🏻🎶
What a brilliant song!!
stellar lesson 🙇🏼♂️
Main lick sounds like dear prudence by the beatles
Thank you.
Thank You!
Damn that guitar sounds rich.
Absolutely love this channel. Your insight on all things music is truly a breath of fresh air. Could you do a video on the Rolling Stones Winter and Foghats Sarah Lee.. two great songs that don't get enough love.
Thanks.
Thank you very much Andy! Brilliant. Subscribed and donated (a week ago or so).
Awesome.. finally one I know how to play!! 🥳
Excellent
I grew up with his music and this song is one of my favorite, thank you for this great guitar lesson 👍greetings from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Were you a teen in the 1970s like me? Great time to grow up for sure!!!
Juan without creating negative vibes..some of the rock created then will never be equaled!
@@juana1483 I was born in 1957 😁👍
@@arnoldzifflebluesguitar agreed completely. So glad we have CZcams now. It's so easy to listen compared to way back then, but it was priceless to be alive back then. Kinda like Back to the Future, but real!!!
@@marcelflo2765 So glad we have CZcams now. It's so easy to listen compared to way back then, but it was priceless to be alive back then. Kinda like Back to the Future, but real!!!
Verification I've been playing it correctly for 50 years.
I was about to make the exact same comment. Probably one of the few where I had it 100% correct.
Without a doubt the best lessons anywhere. How about When I'm gone by 3 Doors Down? Thanks Andy!
Me too! I'm 64 and heard it when I was about 17. One of my all time favourite albums.
Good for you!!! Us!!! 😁
Ty great song from "harvest" !
Awesome lesson ! Can you bring some bon jovi music ? Like “this ain’t a love song” or “Wanted dead or alive”
Awesome lesson
Could you possibly do a lesson for
DO YOU FEEL LIKE WE DO by Peter Frampton
Its such an amazing song would love to be able to play it
perfect...
Agree with you that Harvest is Neil Young's best album. After the Gold Rush comes very close, though. The margin between them has to be measured in planck lengths.
Thank you so much sensei! Lol I’m a huge Neil young fan. It’d be cool to see more. Especially down by the river. Southern man. Hey hey my my/my my hey hey. Harvest moon would be cool too! Thank you for your dedication.
He's done a lesson for Harvest Moon in addition to Old Man and Heart of Gold but those others you mentioned would be nice additions down the road.
thanks Andy, love your stuff. My go to website for accurate transcriptions and informative lessons. Q: have you considered an all-access pass and price for your tabs? I would pay.
I don't think that's allowed as the license holders might go after him.
uuuh ...thank you so much
I would love you to do Out On The Weekend by Neil Young. Thanks
Thank you for the wonderful lesson next do a break down of his newer song Separate Ways
Please could you do How Can I Tell You by Cat Stevens 🙏🏻
Can you make a video on how to play 10 Years Gone by Led Zeppelin
Only jealous players thumb down this guy.
👍
Last night i was cool at the pool hall........ ✌️
Could you do a lesson for Cosmic Empire by George Harrison, please? It is a demo I recently heard on his 50th anniversary collection for All Things Must Pass, and it's awesome!
My favorite Beatle. His music is always played at my house:)
If anyone can help me get this strumming down I would appreciate it. I know all the chords but having problems strumming it. I'm so close to bagging this song but I need some help or tips on mastering the strumming pattern
I've got a stupid question. Is it okay to fingerpick this tune? I'm a terrible fingerpicker and normally I avoid it like the plague but for some reason I fingerpick this much better than I flat-pick it. Great lesson, thanks!
Fantastic. Can you do one day Harvest Moon? Thank you
He did
ii learned this as E shapes
@𝘿!𝙘𝙠 Riding ǤƗяℓ Lucy This is the new tactic by spammers, eh? Copy and paste a legitimate comment (this one from Robert Hartley) into another thread randomly.
The intro starts out with descending notes.

PLEASE POST ON RUMBLE.
RESPECTFULLY,
Chad.
There's some similarities to the D walk down on this and Dear Prudence.
I’ve been playing it wrong for Only 50 years,,,,,,😢😂😂,, thanks,,,
Oh....for a minute I though you were going to do "Needle and The Spoon"
Don’t quite have the right hand down but good nonetheless
This is an oldie---not moldie. I was a boy when Harvest came out.
Edit: I hope Neil Young will remember, that a Southern Man.... lol
Wow. Topical title.
Intentional?
