- On social media, Gary Chambers posted a video about a Baton Rouge, Louisiana, restaurant that is being targeted by Denise Amoroso, the District 8 city councilwoman.
Amoroso is allegedly working with residents to shut down Boil & Roux, a Black-owned business.
The owner of Boil & Roux, Maurice Walker, and Eugene Collins an Advocate who uncovered the alleged plot.
We reached out to Denise Amoroso for a comment, but she did not respond to our email.

Did you miss the part where there are other restaurants and bars in the same area but they're white-owned. The code violation was not having a permit on Cinco de Mayo even though the councilwoman in the video approved their permit request. The city lost their case. Hence, NO VIOLATION

I had the same experience in Tampa Florida. I had a restaurant that I had a five year lease was called historical Ybor city. The owner that I had the lease with did not like that I had a stage playing black mostly jazz music in my restaurant which I was paying $14,000 a month in rent. So they all got together and close me down after I invested over $250,000 in the restaurant. Darryl Shaw a South African did not want me to have cultural music in my restaurant. He got together with the city council, and shut me down. So I totally understand what these people do they steal your money they allow you to build and develop the structural restaurant and then they take it back. It’s horrible. I’m still affected by the nightmare it happened in 2021 during Covid. When they shut you down, they shut in 35 employee 35 mothers and father that need to take care of their children, it’s horrible that’s what they do. However, right across the street from my restaurant with a Greek restaurant, doing their cultural music and having belly dancers dance at their restaurant what hypocrites. The name of my restaurant was Daddio’s patio The restaurant was doing business doing Covid generating over $1 million a quarter. These are the nightmare stories that Black people have to go through.

This isn’t a symptom of when you choose not to vote. It’s a bigger issue historically when local politicians have been using laws to disenfranchise Black people for decades since desegregation. We have to have politicians who understand this history and start creating policies to balance out the playing field. If we don’t choose politicians that proactively create policies to uplift Black people it will just be another situation in another community.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe the owners of the Turkey Leg Hut were dealing with similar issues. What’s crazy about the TLH situation was that the neighborhood is predominantly black, but was being gentrified at the time. There are so many similar situations like this throughout the country. We’re more likely to get pushback from others especially if we have a successful business. There are many situations involving blacks also having businesses and property stolen from them due to being undermined by local officials. I’m so sick and tired of us having to fight this fight. I truly believe that they never want to see us prosper like other minority groups. Our history in this country is proof of this notion. I can see why many blacks are now moving out of the US. I watched a documentary years ago featuring several black folks that advocated moving out of the US for their social and economic wellbeing. The Tulsa Race Riots and many tragedies like it, should remind us that this country will never truly allow us to be successful as a collective like other minority groups. That’s keeping it real.🤔

This happened on the southside of Chicago to a restaurant called Jimmy's located at 93rd & western ave. The restaurant was closed and later torn down. Three people one token black woman had this business closed.

This is not just a voting issue, its the issue of running away from your community. When them folk flip your neighborhood, because we don't see value there this happens. As the small issue with picking up the permit not having time is no excuse. They are looking for anything to complain about. He could have sent someone to get it. This restaurant is making good money! Look it up. It recently appeared on the food network! The city is not looking to close him down or take away his liquor license when he’s bringing in that kind of revenue!(remember the more you make, the more the city takes!) The only conclusion that I can come up with is running a business while being black. That's fucked up. They don't want black folks to run a successful business is what this seems like.
