    Here's my interpretation of MeMe cameras - this is a hint to Mikoto's DID. Not sure how to explain it, but basically I imagine a scene where Mikoto sees footage of "himself" doing something he has no recollection of: because it's not him, it's his alter. The cameras look like security cameras - something like definitive proof that Mikoto did something, except he actually didn't. We're being tricked into thinking the goofball is guilty because "look, we can see him do it on camera!"

    about twenty whole minutes of Mikoto analysis is like heaven in disguise.. someone with DID, I feel like Mikoto's case was handled really well.. both here and by his maker.. you even looked deeper into both his name, and hints in the drama.. i hadn't expected that much from a simple analysis, which usually only cover the mv's.. I'm happy. I can't say the same for other media outlets when discussing Mikoto.. so this was refreshing. to add, I also like the trikoto theory.. even as "John" (Orekoto) is the only one that seems 'confirmed' with es, the gatekeeper is also a really big part in my mind, who asides from John, acts as a bigger protector in a more mental way, as opposed to John, where I believe he fronts to take a more physical approach; such as when the gatekeeper had only allowed John to appear for the theorized murder, rather than switch with Mikoto himself... rgb is a favorite theory of mine. this was the best analysis of his entire public trial, you included so much detail that would otherwise go unnoticed.. so I would love to see a color analysis by you as well. this was fun.. and I hope Mikoto stays innocent, and gets his good ending... or new, healthy beginning, away from work and stress. 🙂💙

    Ngl, it's not quite obvious, but the call scenes in Double have a lot more implications than we realize.
    The call at the start is from someone called チーフ or Chief, and when Mikoto later calls his mom, he tells her he's alright when he's clearly not.
    Some comment in the MV mentioned it, but it's likely Mikoto was working for an exploitative or BLACK company, leading to his laughing mechanisms and his high stress. Smoking and his will to fit in is also common in those black companies, so that he won't stand out, and BE TARGETED BY HIS SUPERIORS.
    With that in mind, it's likely that Mikoto (alter or otherwise) killed his abusive work superiors to cope with the stress. However, Mikoto himself doesn't acknowledge how stressful his workplace was BECAUSE HE GOT NUMB TO THE STRESS, which is why we hardly see the presence of his workplace in his MVs.
    After all, MILGRAM shows the *prisoner's perspective,* not objective reality.

  • @Glowvie
    @Glowvie Před 6 měsíci +140

    I do think it's more likely that Mikoto is considered an indirect murderer do to his bad handling of stress. In the past (and still now) he's been shown to lie to others (his mother or Es) about how stressed out he is. He keeps it inside and keeps on overworking himself. It's as a result of that why John was birthed, or at the very least "exploded" and attacked people to destress.
    Essentially, it's Mikoto choosing to handle his stress so unhealthily that lead to John doing what he did.

      @Spectral_Labrys Před 5 měsíci +9

      Mikoto would be seen as an indirect killer simply by having DID. There's a thing called "system responsibility" where whoever is currently out has to take the blame for something another alter did, because it would be unfair to the person who was wronged for a system to try to escape blame by saying "it wasn't me, it was X". Mikoto is a slightly different case since I don't think he knows about his DID, but it was his body, so he will still get blamed. Though I do hate that they made Deviele (John's actual name as revealed in Double) a murderer, it's bad representation of DID, and just perpetuates the fear the media has made against systems

    I find the Trikoto theory interesting because it is mainly based in subtle but recurring imagery through all his MVs.
    It is a theory in a weird point where without being mentioned even once in the voicedramas it still has enough "clues" (I love how the recurring thing with the number 3 and the RGB thing are given a meaning with this theory ) to keep relevant.
    It is a theory that although not believing I enjoy a lot, there are a lot of great analysis surrounding it.

    Personally I highly doubt that John is the killer. A lot of stuff implied to me that he’s trying to take the blame for Mikoto. The way he talks about killing a bunch of random people in what is very obviously a lie as he’s trying to portray himself as the bad guy and act like Mikoto had nothing to do with it.
    And especially in Double he says “all take it all on” or “I’ll shoulder it all” which could definitely imply this. There’s also a scene at the end in the train where he swings his bat at nothing, and a bunch of mannequin parts fly outside the train. This makes it look like here from first impression that he caused it, but it’s completely different. It’s a visual representation of him trying to take the blame. I think it’s very important on the difference between the mannequins inside the train and outside the train in double.
    There’s also how in the very end of MeMe, Mikoto picks up and reveals the death card himself. And then John grabs the camera and punches it, possibly implying Mikoto’s loss of memories. I really do think that Mikoto did it but there’s a possibility that John could’ve been an assistant as he was the one who handed the card to Mikoto in the first place.

    • @thiefpotato2759
      @thiefpotato2759 Před 5 měsíci +9

      Mikoto is the first person to kill, but idk if he's the killer past that. I think what John means when he says "shouldering it all" is protecting Mikoto from having another mental breakdown.
      I also have a theory that John just kills people who causes Mikoto to have mental breakdowns.

    • @LanieMae
      @LanieMae Před 5 měsíci +8

      @@thiefpotato2759 eh, something like that would be too obvious and not nearly as morally complex as the series is. And even in the first voice drama it’s interesting to note how despite John attacking Es they weren’t all that badly injured which makes me think he was purposely holding back and has more bark than bite per se, and he hasn’t attacked anyone else in prison

  • @bluesword9112
    @bluesword9112 Před 5 měsíci +41

    I really hope the trikoto theory is real bc i rly hate the "haha big bad alter who murders" trope...
    My very ideal third trial would be greenkoto taking over and saying how bluekoto actually WAS the murderer and that greenkoto just birthed redkoto out of the memories to protect bluekoto, which would explain why redkoto's memories are blurry because he doesn't really understand the motive behind why bluekoto lashed out, only that it happened. It would also explain why bluekoto is treated as the prisoner instead of the lazy "oh akshually Milgram probably didn't accommodate for people with alters". I think if Milgram can separate bluekoto and redkoto, they definitely knew who the real prisoner was.
    This is also a really self-indulgent idea but I want greenkoto to be the original alter before bluekoto started fronting more, and that greenkoto created bluekoto so he can live a life being happy separate from their traumatic experiences. This would make it really humanizing because we, as the audience, would have been introduced to the "good, original personality" before it being revealed that bluekoto was not the original and was created as well. It would be really nice for us to have gotten to know an alter properly to humanize that alters are just regular people.

  • @genericyoutubecommentchann7418
    @genericyoutubecommentchann7418 Před 5 měsíci +19

    My personal theory as to why Mikoto is the prisoner is because he is intentionally stressing himself out and making John front. In Double, John sings:
    “Keeping things at bay, you’re doing your best. ‘No I need to do more…’ say what? You’re going to break. Me, the newborn other you, I’ll take it all on.”
    and also
    “You’re overdoing it. You’re already broken. But if you persist, I guess it’s my job to keep things on an even keel.”
    He recently answered his second question which revealed he has no intention of quitting his job even though he knows it’s too much for him. If anything, he intends to keep working hard because he wants to make it in a big company.
    Even though his boss is demanding of him, Mikoto is still partially responsible for his stress, so that’s why I think Milgram considers him responsible for those people’s deaths.

    ( 9:40 ) The hanged man on Mikotos shirt is about relflecting a situation or action, seeing it from a new perspective and take a step back or a pause. It's stands for patience, surrender and basically to "let go" to give room for change or improvment.

      Yep, was just going thru the comments to see if anyone has pointed this out! Even more evidence for the 3+ theory, especially if John is right about being just recently born. Another theory I had initially was that John was potentially formed not as a protector, but a prosecutor- acting out memories of abuse experienced, potentially at the hands of Mikoto's dad. Not the best wording there, but it conveys the point well enough

    I have three possible theories (sorry for being late)
    Please note that in Undercover, his murder in confirmed to be with a baseball bat, so I really think he bashed someone with one.
    - Mikoto had severe intrusive thoughts and gave in to them, killing someone and dissociating about it, forming John.
    - Mikoto was practicing his swing (he does when he is stressed according to T1 interrogations) and accidentally hit someone, killing them and dissociating about it, forming John.
    - John killed, but he was unable to be restrained since he wasn't fully formed at that time and Milgram couldn't restrain a fragmented(incomplete) alter.

  • @Suntinxx_
    @Suntinxx_ Před 5 měsíci +8

    Law is difficult when it comes to someone with DID, but in the end all the alters have to be treated as one person no matter how different they are from each other. Yes Mikoto is innocent, but since John committed the murders and used his body, they’re technically all guilty in the eyes of the law. It’s one of those cases where illness doesn’t really matter, there’s no way to actually separate the two so they have to be treated as one

  • @LanieMae
    @LanieMae Před 6 měsíci +20

    I want to talk about Mikoto’s motive for a bit as you bought up the possible stalker and gang theory (yes I’m commenting a lot on this video it’s just I have a lot to say about Mikoto’s story ok)
    Right before the release of double I made a big analysis on the Mikoto stalker theory on tumblr and I still think it hold up pretty well. I proposed that it’s very interesting how there’s a lot of sexual imagery in double directly objectifying him. There’s two ways I could put this but in the end they’re quite similar and could work together.
    I mentioned how this objectification could be another representation of the stalking, a long with all the camera imagery we see. And there could be a possibility that Mikoto killed multiple people in an attempt to find the perpetrator, hence the attacking the gang member. There’s also how in Mikoto’s mindscape, there’s a lot of bathroom imagery. The mirror that’s on the wall is exactly the same as in the bathroom and the tiles are the same as well. There’s also how the place is filled with a thin layer of water and I suggested that the fact that the walls are broken down revealing the sky could represent him never feeling safe in privacy.
    Another interpretation is that this could be a result of underlying trauma. We know that Mikoto definitely has trauma because of his did. And him (or maybe John, because it appears to be him in those scenes) objectifying himself in such a way could be a result of childhood trauma. As if I remember correctly that can be a symptom of that sort of abuse.
    I was thinking if we put these two interpretations together, that could definitely give Mikoto a clear motive on why he’d do it. As the more I think about it what John said happened and his supposed motive, even going with stuff like “he killed to protect mikoto” makes less and less sense.

  • @LanieMae
    @LanieMae Před 6 měsíci +14

    Honestly I really doubt the trikoto theory. Most of the evidence to me seems just like a bunch of random coincidences, and like I mean it actually feels like it’s grasping straws. I don’t think something like a couch and a chair prove that there’s three of them. And especially in trial 2 where when the 3rd one everyone assumed to be the stoic protector turned out to be John, or orekoto as we once knew him. And it definitely seems that that’s him in the scene in MeMe when he’s looking at the tv as you can see the fool card, which is represented with him in the background.
    At this point there’s way too much to disprove this theory that I feel like basing and major theory in it now is just going to lead nowhere, and deco 27 straight up confirms there being two as when talking about double he says “what will happen to the two Mikotos after this?”

      As sad as it would be, it would be a pretty balls-y move on the writer's part. I've constantly heard verdict arguments hinge on the presumption that "the writers are ACTUALLY going to kill anyone. They have merch. Why would they kill a character who has merch?", so for a prisoner to actually die because they voted on the assumption tthe prisoners wouldn't die would be both a hilarious and a powerful move on the part of the writers. To actually make good on the character's threats to kill themselves/each other, MILGRAM really isn't pulling any punches.

      @@darkjelly944For me, Haruka doing it makes way too much sense for them not to go with it. It would perfectly mirror the real Milgram experiment, as the whole point of that was to see if the participants would continue asking the questions even though they “killed” the questionee. And the writers were clearly baiting us into voting Mu guilty, so I think they wanted this to happen.

    1. There are two alters, John and mikoto
    2. Mikoto did the crime, John cleaned it up
    3. A divorce and work stress is not enough to develop DID, like I know people will say that in some cases it can be really bad but no like it cannot form a DID system
    Most likely Mikoto realized someone was watching him, not just with the constant camera imagery but his music video’s angles are significantly different from the others
    Mikoto has the only music video where there are objects in the way of our view of him, as if it were a different perspective a different person watching him such as when he’s taking off his shirt the table vase and things on it were blocking our view or with the shower door
    If mikoto cannot clearly have access to the other alter memory, neither can John
    John being formed, most likely set up camera to exihibit mikoto and understand who he was
    That’s how he was able to have so much information from him
    Mikoto probably found cameras or clues someone was watching and assumed it was the former gang members but it was John the entire time lol, with the crime itself I can explain how this works but it would have to be a different comment

    The tarot card on Mikotos shirt in MeMe is most likely the hanged man, which is the symbol of ultimate surrender/sacrifice/being suspended in time.
    Which I think all fit Mikoto. Hes a pushover and lets people treat him like a workhorse to such an extent that he has a mental breakdown and causes him to kill someone. He is very much someone who sacrifices and surrenders to other people wills.
    It also fits the theme of MeMe where Mikoto is suspended in time whenever he is not fronting. Where he loses tracks of time because John takes over.

    i’m worried about the trikoto theory mainly because media hasn’t done a very good job with DID, so the writers might not be aware of gatekeepers and protectors, just thinking about one alter (also with the MV being called Double) The tarrot cards are also super confusing idrk what to do 😭 Even though I haven’t seen too much of the gang theory, It would make sense since it feels odd that to take away stress, you would kill some random bystander idk 💀 I super agree with the theory that Mikoto was a witness, cause people like Mahiru and Kazui are here 😎 ANYWAY thanks for the banger video slayyy
    (also roast and toast me alive if I used incorrect terms for DID so I don’t accidentally do it again 😎)

    I do think the reason for mikoto being the prisoner for being a witness or assisting in a way does seem to fit. Because at least a good amount of the prisoners didnt just kill. In Mahirus case it was indirectly, Kazui's murder seemed to be unintentional and an accident, Kotoko clearly killed people but her victims all seemed to be bad people, Amane killed her abuser and you'd argue they deserved it... This is exactly why the trials are happening. Will we forgive Kotoko because she had good intentions, or give her a guilty verdict for killing people? Will we forgive the others for their circumstances? Thus also is the question if Mikoto is guilty for mishandling his stress and letting things get out of hand. Whether or not he is fully to blame for John's actions. Clearly there must have been some involvement on the host's part even if its something like Mahiru's situation

    When I put this on the google translate it was saying "Z is grateful"(when i put to translate in chinese)/"Breast-feeding"(in detect languange)

    It would be really really interesting to see someone make an analysis of the Tarot cards.
    I only know the roughest of basics, since a childhood friend of mine was interested in them.
    But the cards i saw reappear most were the fool, the devil, death, the hanged man, and various numbers of wheels.
    If we say Mikoto is the actual murderer, that would make absolute sense, since the card in his hands turns into the Devil.
    But he rejects it, he doesn't want to be found the Devil, he wants to be innocent and pitiable and normal.
    He is scared of being the Devil.
    The print on his tshirt reminds me of the hanged man, fitting his job situation and dooming him, or rather all of them. It's interesting that it is reversed though. His wallpaper too.
    John on the other hand tries to convince us that Mikoto is the Fool, as in the voice drama.
    He literally hands the viewer/warden the death card, threatening us in case we do not agree with Mikoto being the fool.
    If its three of them, I like all of them so far.
    People with DID have it incredibly hard - imagine going to school and not remembering what you learnt, having to follow a rigid system and suddenly not remembering what you had to do.
    Our system is so ill suited for taking care of the diversity in individuals.
    I seriously don't remember what the Wheels were, they were like numbered together with some other cards?
    I know that the placement of cards, whether they face up or down, and which reading style you use can have a huge effect.
    For instance, you can draw a single card, or three cards for the past present and future, or put out specific patterns where the location of which card also means something.
    Does anyone know more about it? I'd love a rundown.

    I'm really for the Mikoto witness part of this. I believe he initiated the attack, making him viable for MILGRAM. John finished the job. I think the white background at 13:13 is Mikoto witnessing the inital murder event after he physically started it due to co-fronting. Multiple alters can be "in front" at once. This is most likely the first time this has happened to Mikoto, due to that event being (imo) Johns "birth." Either Greenkoto handled Mikoto's memories of this event or Mikoto represses it or didn't think it was actually real. That's why I think there are signs for both alters being in front in this scene. John has more signs, being he is in control of the body. Mikoto is still there, seeing everything, but not fully in control. Co-fronting is different for every system and i'm only using my limited knowledge as a singlet for this theory. Thats what i think :3

    • @ponkieredrmy
      @ponkieredrmy Před 5 měsíci

      EDIT: for the bat being in the left hand, i think john switched the bat into his better hand to finish the murders. I'm not sure why they dont show this, other than Mikoto repressing memories and/or his memories being controlled by the gatekeeper, and John's first time fronting being blurry. When an alter first forms, it can sometimes take some time to understand themselves and create their own identity. A term used for some new alters who dont have enough memories or jobs in the system to have a separate identity call themselves or their memories "blurry." I believe John sees that first murder an incredibly blurry memory. As for Mikoto and his alters' character arc ending with them becoming one person, this is a possibility. In therapy a possible goal for a a system is "final fusion". it is pretty much what it sounds like. All alters fuse into one alter. This is however, not the only end goal for a system. Many systems wish to learn to work and thrive together rather than fuse. I think for Mikoto and his alters, both is possible. I would prefer Mikoto, John, and Greenkoto learning about each other and learning how to accept each other and help one another with their stressful life.

    I've been thinking about something that i haven't seen anyone talk about so far.. We see john (or possibly mikoto) killing people both inside and outside of the train (by this i mean the broken mannequin pieces being on the outside of the train), so i was wondering if they should be differentiated from one another?? I was thinking about the possibility that when the mannequin pieces are outside of the moving train, it could possibly mean that the one who was seen on screen at the time wasn't the one who actually committed the murder? So for example when the background was black with john present and the mannequin pieces were outside of the train, i personally think that it could mean that mikoto was the one that committed the murder, but john is trying to take the blame even when he wasn't at fault?
    This theory mostly only makes sense if we look at the train as some sort of headspace, because then it would be logical that the alter that was currently in the headspace at the time wasn't the one responsible for the murder, since the mannequin pieces were outside of the moving train!! I might be reaching with this one but i think its a cool theory to consider!
    (Apologies for the horribly long rant idk how to keep stuff simple when it comes to milgram theories haha)

    I think the pink might represent cofronting of two alters. So both blue and red are at the front. Maybe red is still in control and blue is just watching not sure.
    But it would mean green may have done the first kill / harm and red was born to take the blame and is more aggressive (hence the color gradient from green to red at the start). And in MeMe the color tone of the killing was green. And red was splashed into the screen I think to indicate redkoto was born when bluekoto witnessed part of greenkotos actions and couldn’t handle it. (you see bluekoto being shocked in the mirror and then thrown back into the blue sky space and panicking). Amnesia barriers are formed when alters are created, so that might’ve been what the blackening of the card meant. Also I think the blue sky space in MeMe might represent the inner world of the system. I’ve heard that systems often have an inner world where alters reside when not fronting.

    I haven't seen anyone else mention this yet, so I wanted to. For anyone reading this "John" had his real name revealed in Double's music video. There's a scene with a picture of Mikoto that has been ripped, the top has a blue outline behind it, and has the name "Mikoto" in the corner, then the picture switches to swap the outline colours so that a red outline is at the top with the name "Deviele" (Day-vee-el) in the corner. The photo isn't shown for long, so you may have to go frame by frame to get a good look, but the picture is shown in this video around the 10:47 mark

    At the very end of Double, when the camera zooms to his face, we see that the light in his eyes are at the top. However, you say that it's John who is fronting, despite the claim that John always has light at the bottom of his eyes. From what it appears to me, it must be Mikoto (or the Gatekeeper) who ends up witnessing the result of John's murders, and apologises for being in denial about his alter's violence. The cameras outside Mikoto's apartment in MeMe could be the Host trying to catch his alter after becoming suspicious of something being wrong. Mikoto could be guilty because he wanted to escape the truth, and prioritised pleasing people and having a stable job over trying to reduce stress in a healthy way.

  • @DazedDoofus
    @DazedDoofus Před 2 měsíci

    I’d like to think that Mikoto was only considered the murderer bc at the time no one had known that he had some sort of DID and it was his body ( since he’s the ‘original’ person to inhabit the body) that had committed the crime.
    Unless he was somewhat conscious during his first attack and had that become a repressed memory of sorts then I also don’t think that he has any genuine knowledge of the events of the killings. My reasoning being that he genuinely thought it was some sort of TV show or that he was brought to MILGRAM by mistake, and he seems to be rather honest (Mikoto, but also John now that I think of it, they’re both rather blunt in a way.)
    It’s also possible that Midoto/The gatekeeper was fronting during the attacks causing neither John, nor Mikoto to know certain details. I think that the white backlighting isn’t actually symbolic of Mikoto but rather the gatekeeper or the two of them (Mikoto and John) fronting/switching.

    So from what im seeing theres a lot of people supporting a Trikoto theory and/or rgb mikotos. However the MVs emphasize the 2 of them only.
    I think that the Trikoto theory is tru and it could also be rgb but it isnt as clear as there are just 3 makotos. I believe the 'third' isnt quite a third at all which is why it isnt included as a seperate view. The third is aware of both mikoto and Deivole, and i agree that the third is the mix of the two or the original. Mikoto is created to be presentable, deivole releases stress, and the third never fronts, only witnesses. Perhaps they used to front a long time ago as the very first mikoto.
    This would link well with the security camera stuff and the mixture moments of deivole and mikoto. For all intents and purposes the third mikoto 'doesn't exist', but he is the original mikoto as his name was given to HIM at birth by his mother. I believe he is who we are passing judgment on. Funnily enough though, deivole and ahoge makoto probably dont know who he is either.

      Oh. I did just have a thought about one of your unanswered questions: If the RGB theory is true, could the color pink be the representation of nuance between "Blue" Mikoto and "Red" Mikoto? After all, blue and red light make the color magenta which is close enough to pink.

  • @CloveViv-ld4nk
    @CloveViv-ld4nk Před 3 měsíci

    Abt who started the attack, maybe it was both?
    I used to think mikoto was on his way back from work when i first watched double but then i thought why would he take a baseball bat to work?
    So i have a different theory, in interro questions, mikoto mentions he often goes out to practice his swing whenever hes too stressed from work to calm himself down, i think thats where he was really going and on his way there as he kept getting messages from his boss he got more stressed and started panicking and getting impatient to get where he was going and practice his swing bcs then hed feel better
    Thats when john was formed and fronted.
    During switches in DID i think sometimes an alters intentions or feeling can filter into another alters conciousness (not sure tho since im also a singlet). I believe mikotos intentions of practicing baseball filtered into john so john started swinging bcs of it, since he thought thats what mikoto wanted
    This way, john was the one holding the bat, ig you could say he was the "real murderer", but mikoto was the one who set the murders in motion somewhat
    (Sorry for the rant jaja)

  • @lavendr_

    I'm really sorry, Trikoto theory is cool but I just can't believe it😔 my biggest doubt is that his songs are called "Double" and "MeMe" referring to only 2 personalities exist. It's hard to distinguish the 3rd one too idk. I don't see the theory of psychoanalisys working here (about ego, super-ego and id). Also it's strange that Midokoto didn't get his own pronoun(excluding the kanji/katakana "boku" since there's a lot other personal pronouns, why choose the one that Mikoto can just write differently not say). Things about Mikoto being associated with number 3 a lot is not convincing either.
    I could only believe it if the Midokoto would seen as a subconsciousness or mix between John and Mikoto when referring to them both, not as a separated personality😭
    still this is an amazing analysis tho, love it❤❤
