  • hitfirstboxing.com Bernard Hopkins Speaks Out About Those Who Claim To Be "TBE". Bernard Hopkins held an open workout ahead of his 4/19 fight and if you follow our coverage of "B Hop" you know he's not short on words. Once again "Da Alien" speaks about whats on his mind as he discusses boxing history. At 49 years old the clean living Hopkins has some words for some of the other boxers in the game today. While telling you to fill in the blank as far as the name goes he has opinions on those who call themselves "The Best Ever" or "TBE" for short. Also he weighs in on those young boxers who act in foolish manner in a way that easy to tell who he's impersonating. As he approaches 50 years old and is the IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion and looking to add 2 more titles to his collection, I believe these young fighters better take notes while they can.

Henry Armstrong, Deserves a lot of respect he was a amazing fighter, he held the featherweight, Lightweight and welterweight titles at The same time, He then jumped up to middleweight and boxed sugar ray Robinson, Armstrong deserves a lot of respect and is definitely A All time great.

trochez89 Hopkins showed losing ur first match didn’t matter, won 22 and lost to Roy then was became the first 4 title Middleweight lineal Champ in a 10 year run as the man at 160 stopping 32-0 Glen Johnson, 40-0 Trinidad, 37-3 Oscar he kayoed and Oscar would after lose a SD to Floyd, and Hopkins would be ripped off after 20 successful defenses vs Undefeated Jermain Taylor but Hopkins moved up 2 weight classes beating Target, Wright, lost a SD to Undefeated Calzaghe, beat 34-0 Pavlik, and after a loss to Dawson beat Pascal, Undefeated Cloud, and Shumenov becoming WBA/IBF LH Champ 2 months shy of 50 and lost his last two as most greats do as he took on Undefeated Kovalev and a guy with 1 loss, not an MMA fighter who was 0-0 - fake too, Floyd carried him and when and how many times was Floyd an underdog? Maybe once vs Corrales

Henry Armstrong won the title at Featherweight then Welterweight then went down to 135 and won that one too. Defended the welter belt some 15-17 times. Let that settle for a minute. And fought for the middleweight belt and got a draw too. He was robbed . He held 3 title during the days of only EIGHT WORLD TITLES. YES, there were only EIGHT titles.

I know this is an old comment but i just had to comment on it. I always laugh when people talk about Pacquiao being the only "8 division champ" in the history of boxing. The only reason why is simply because back then there wasn't any super or light inbetween the original weightclasses, and only ONE belt per weight class. So not like today when you have 4 world champions in 17 weightclasses, and you can just go for the weakest title holder and call yourself champ. Back then, you either was THE champ or you were a contender.

He's being real. but I see him hating a little bit. Boxing had more relations now than ever before. Ali is the greatest. but was only in one weight class. You can't take away Mayweathers accomplishment because he didn't fight how you wanted him to. Also mayweather being a successful black business owner in a business known for slaving, chewing up and spitting out boxers is a HUGE accomplishment by itself. It sounds real. But he's hating.

    • @gsimon123
      @gsimon123 Před 8 lety +6

+Malcolm Brown No he is clarifying. He is saying what it takes to actually be the best of all time and pointing out that basically nobody CURRENT has done even what just Henry Armstrong did in his career. Mayweather moved up sure but he did not fight the best at those weights or in their primes most of the time. Hopkins is exposing what a lot of unbiased people criticize Floyd for; if he wants to call himself the best EVER he needed to do a lot more because plenty of people did more before him without the asterisks. But again he points out correctly; you would have to be educated on boxing to know that Floyd is only the best of THIS era but certainly not in the discussion for best of ALL eras. Not even close. Not even on Armstrong level let alone someone like SRR. B-Hop is saying it is all hype if you claim to be the best ever if history doesn't support your claims. Ali has more claim to that than Floyd and he's maybe the only other guy who paraded being the greatest of all time. Even Ali despite being greater than Floyd in a lot of ways is arguably not the greatest either. Maybe in his weight class but not of all time p4p. Floyd is nowhere near the best ever. That is just boxing history. At best he TIED Marciano and even Marciano is questionable greatest ever material. Floyd didn't even dare to break that record yet claims to be greater. He only needed one more fight but does not even grant a rematch against his most reputable opponent because he did not like that he was injured when they fought? Some greatest ever...

      Mago, i will give you more then 5 names in this post but first i want to explain to you why your post shows that you are a novice to boxing, and have likely never stepped foot in a ring, yes im saying you dont know shit about boxing, here's why;
      1. hall of fame doesnt mean your a good boxer, it just means your famous in boxing. Silvester stallone is in the new york boxing hall of fame,so is gatti but Hamed is not.
      2. pretty much every state [not just in the US but in phillipines, UK, Germany, Ikraune, Russia and Mexico] has their own hall of fame, so which hall of fame are you speaking of?
according to new york hall of fame the guy i mentioned beat 6 hof's, but according to mexico city hall of fame he beat 23 hall of famers....
different people are famous in different countries, if you use that as a basis on who's famous people are better boxers truth is you dont know shit about boxing.
A better judge is how many top 10 contenders and champions a boxer beat, my boy had 32 world championship title wins and here is a list of the top 10 contenders/champions he beat; Roger Mayweather, Meldrick Taylor, Hector "Macho" Camacho, Ruben Castillo, Rocky Lockridge, Terrence Alli, Frankie Randall, Edwin Rosario, Jean LaPorte, Rafael "Bazooka" Limon, Jose Luis Ramirez, Francisco Tomas Da Cruz, Angel Hernandez, Frankie Mitchell, Greg Haugen, Marty Jakubowski, Joey Gamache, Miguel Angel Gonzalez, Tony Lopez, Giovanni Parisi, Alberto Cortes, Jaime "Rocky" Balboa, Kyung-Duk Ahn, John Duplessis, Lonnie Smith, Tommy Small, Danilo Cabrera, Mario "Azabache" Martinez, Adriano Arreola, Nicky Perez, David Kamau, Rodolfo Aguilar, Andy Holligan and Buck Smith.
A bit more than 5 but i hope that works for ya. Truth is he was champion when a new title was introduced, and imo the more titles are brought in the more watered down the competition becomes, each org. has their top 10 contenders and champions, so he did his thing in his time.

Jovon Cruz That it the truth and nothing but the truth. Money picks his fighters. He even claim in an all access video against Robert Ghost that he always watches tape on fights before he picks them...if he doesn't like what he sees, he moves on until he is confident enough to take the fight. That's no champ. The champ takes any fighter anytime on any circumstance. You want to talk about real champs, google Julio Cesar Chavez. You never hear about bs requirements coming from him, or picking easy fights to conserve his record. All these dudes are caught up on this business side of things like hop said. Back in the day, champs fought the best period with no bs. There are only a hand full of real champs in my book and money is the champ now (on paper that is), and a talented fighter, not TBE. Danny swift falls in the category now with his bs fight he just picked up...fighting the 77th ranked in the lightweight division...WTF is that, c'on now..."champ." Paper ass champs. One more thing, most of the time people open their months and comment, i bet have never even stepped in the ring, not even as an amateur. If you were, you would hear what is said in the the gym from the old school dudes like hop about most of these paper ass champs. I hear it all the time in my gym.

Moving up from 126-160 and never complained about his size and is a top 1 or 2 fighter? Pacquiao. I think Hopkins brought up Armstrong to point out that what Armstrong and Pacquiao did is more impressive than Floyd in that regard and by Floyd's own measuring stick where he talked trash about Ali for not fighting in different weight classes. However, Pacquiao is not running around screaming TBE despite winning the most amount of weight classes in history at 8. He's taking a jab at Floyd for not fighting GGG who is a 160. Heck Floyd didn't even want to break Marciano's record of 49-0 despite a hug paycheck to be made fighting Pacquiao in a rematch. There is business and there is fooling people.

    @asswuppin Před 10 lety +11

The hilarious part of what BHOP is saying is that he stayed at one division for the entirety of his prime career and ONLY moved up once he got shown up against Taylor.
One division, yet BHOP uses Armstrong's 5 divisions as a measuring stick.
He's clearly speaking about Mayweather, who also did the same thing in 5 divisions.
So maybe BHOP better brush up on his reading comprehension skills because clearly he didn't realize before making this rant that Mayweather has gone up as many divisions and beaten the recognized best.
It would be one thing if Mayweather was pulling a Pacquiao and waiting for guys to get beaten and ONLY then be willing to fight them.
No. Instead Mayweather is fighting champions who are either undefeated, or are on fire because of their last win.
No fighter in history has fought everybody. Not even the consensus P4P#1 Ray Robinson fought everybody. Neither did Armstrong.
What Hopkins is attempting to do is tear down others by citing others because he knows he's not close to even being in the conversation about best ever.
If Hopkins truly thought that competing in 5 divisions makes a fighter the best, then isn't the next logical question "Why did Hopkins only compete in 1 division for the majority of his career"?
Hopkins can afford to move up now because at his advanced age, no one will hold losses against him. Anyone who fights Hopkins is in a lose/lose situation because a win over BHOP means little because everyone will say "Oh he's old and was supposed to lose".
A loss over BHOP however makes him look like an old dog that's still got it but his opponent is shamed because he got beat by an old man.
Lots of guys talk shit about Mayweather because they don't want ANYONE to outshine them. Most of the so called greats only competed in 1-2 divisions. Most of them lost to men who weren't supposed to beat them. Most of them ended up broke and with dementia.
So guys like Leonard and Hagler will talk shit because they are watching a guy do what they should have, but didn't. They are watching a guy become richer than all of them combined. They are watching a guy create a legacy that incredible.
What really stings is that they are watching Mayweather position himself to break Marciano's record. They didn't do it. They were out of the running because they got defeated, not because the retired.
So when they see a young, outspoken guy who doesn't play the modest role and tells them frankly to their face that he is better than they were based on the fact that he's doing more against the best in more divisions, they can't stomach that.
It really doesn't matter whose opinion says what. The stats and numbers reflect the best despite opinions.
But BHOP inadvertently and unknowingly gave Mayweather the biggest compliment and endorsement by comparing what Floyd has done to what Armstrong has done without realizing that they both climbed the same amount of divisions and both fought the best willing champions in each division.
BHOP just showed his green eyes in this video though. And envy isn't a color that looks good on him.

***** I have no idea what you're even talking about.
      What is "that"?

    • @asswuppin
      @asswuppin Před 10 lety +3

***** Where did I write that he "cleaned out" any division?
You're making up arguments that you can win because they don't exist for anyone but you, sir.
Mayweather is #1 at WW since his fight against DLH. He's also simultaneously #1 at jr middleweight.
People play games with trying to "install" fighters into certain ranks, but real fans know its bullshit.
You say its not impressive compared to BHOP's?
You don't know a thing about what you're attempting to discuss and that's now obvious.
BHOP competed in 1 division and lost to Roy Jones, then fought for a vacated belt that Jones left behind when he went up to fight then P4P#1 James Toney.
BHOP only managed a draw and finally won the rematch. Afterwards, BHOP didn't fight another champion in his own division for HALF A DECADE.
That's five years for those who don't know.
Then, after that five year period, BHOP made a name for himself by fighting welterweights who were coming up in weight to face Roy Jones.
BHOP fought them before they could make it to RJJ's level and won.
THAT'S HOW BHOP GOT MADE A NAME FOR HIMSELF.
You probably wouldn't know that because you don't know boxing.
BHOP was and is one of thee most dirty yet boring boxers in the history of the sport.
BHOP did not fight ANY MIDDLEWEIGHT worth mentioning aside from Roy Jones at during his prime.
All the other so-called chances BHOP took came WAAAAY after he was out of his prime .. including his fights against Jermain Taylor.
Its not a big deal nor is it very significant when a man passed his prime takes chances because he has little to lose.
BHOP REFUSED to take chances during his prime because he did not believe in his chances.
BHOP is a legend because of his longevity at middleweight, not because he beat anyone significant that was established at 160 or above.
He stayed at 160 waaay too long after EVERYONE but him realized that there were no challenges left at 160 once Roy Jones left.
The ONLY reason that BHOP is given respect in the game is because he has proven that through discipline, one can still compete well passed 40.
      How do I know that?
Because BHOP hasn't done ANYTHING worth talking about when he was younger than 40.
Beating Trinidad and DLH, who by the way were never forces above 147lbs, was no crowning achievement.
      They were established WWs.
In fact, DLH debuted at lightweight and moved up the ranks.
You speak of Hopkins as if he was kicking ass and taking names. Hopkins has kicked SOME ass, but all the names were either unrecognizable or insignificant at the weight in which fought them
And if you argue that it doesn't matter what weight they fought at, and the BHOP didn't force DLH and Trinidad to fight him, then you're a child.
If Mayweather went up to 160 and lost to BHOP, would that make BHOP an even bigger star?
      Absolutely not.
Why? Because Mayweather struggles to fight at 154lbs. He's not at his best as its his 5th division.
Hopkins is a career MW who stayed there for 90% of his career. He has ONLY ventured higher once it became clear that he was not to be taken seriously anymore.
I've clearly watched and know more about BHOP than you do. Do you remember when BHOP was getting his ass kicked by Robert Allen and threw himself out of the ring and claimed that he couldn't continue?
Of course you don't. You just repeat the bullshit you hear and hope no one knows shit to challenge you.
      Well you've been challenged.
Look at who BHOP actually fought.
Come back and list this star studded resume that supposedly outshines Mayweather.
You must be on drugs, dude.
Either that or you're trying to bullshit you way through a conversation without know what it is you're talking about.

I can't think of a response you could come up with that has to do with the subject matter that would offer anything new.
You might argue that you disagree, but then we both know that you would have no basis In which to disagree aside from you not wanting to be seen as having to agree.

I can always count on my boy J Smith to recognize bullshit when he hears it. Ain't it funny how B-Hop is talking like he is an all time great. Yet, he is going down in history for nothing more, but the age in which he is doing it. . . And wasn't it B-Hoo that was trying to promote a "mega fight" with Floyd Mayweather at a catchweight, but no one fell for it... And wasn't it B-Hop that promoted the entire Hopkins vs Calzahge fight by acting like a so called BAFOON... from city to city "he went on camera stating that he'd never get beat by a white boy... Now he's so eloquent... Wouldn't you agree? Lol! He is right about one thing though... We are in a different Era and he is two generations past retirement, because it's no coincidence that Mayweather went from Pretty Boy to Money. He's selling something Bernard "The Alien" Hopkins... All the greats do it! Manny had his "I am the victim" rant that went on for almost a decade... While he cheated on his wife, gambled and drank everyday, then juiced up for 12 weeks and walked through every welterweight in the division while making millions. The. When he got knocked out JMM he was to compassionate to hurt another fighter at the beginning of every pre fight interview, but he had JMM hurt and was going in "FOR THE KILL" at the end of pre fight interview. Ali was the greatest of all time. Mike Tyson's style was "impregnable." Sugar Ray Leonard, Hector Camacho, Prince Nasseem Hamed, and the list goes on and on. They all talked crap about their opponents, but if we were to go down their list of opponents we'd realize that Leonard never fought Hagler or Hearns every week, Ali didn't fight Frazier or Foreman every other fight... I like B-Hop and what he's doing is incredible at his age, but him pretending to state facts about boxing history and leaving out parts of boxing history to make himself look more impressive than the next man is complete jealousy.... If Floyd had fought in Armstrongs Era he'd be even more impressive. When Armstrong fought they fought they weighed in the day of the fight... Meaning Armstrong was more than likely fighting guys perhaps shorter than him but the same size... Today average fighters are being known as punchers when in fact they are just knocking out guys 3 weight classes below them... Example Chavez Jr! And that B-Hoo is making your 2 weight class jump that your bragging about looking a little less impressive compared to the greats.... And Floyd's 5 weight class look even more impressive... I CALL STRAIGHT JEALOUSY! If B-Hop would've gotten the Mayweather fight... He would've taken it... And how challenging is that? But, it's so eloquent wouldn't you agree?
