What have been labeled in no contest at that point. Had Hopkins Ben caught on the way down or assisted back to the ring, it would have been an automatic disqualification. Jack Reese already granted him a ton of leeway on receiving assistance to his feet and back into the ring as he just did the 20 count instead of disqualifying.

Losing to Smith was more of an age thing, in my opinion. Calzaghe, on the other hand, might have just been too good. I'm actually surprised how little credit Calzaghe gets for being an all time great. Anyway, Bernard saying that didn't change anything for me, he is still one of my favorite fighters. I really like Bernard Hopkins. Yeah it would be better had he not said something so ignorant but nobody is perfect. It's not like he said he hates white people or anything. He just said what was on his mind, he's entitled to that in this country.

I read many of the comments below. Rogan, Bernard and all of the comments I read didn't mention the real story of this fight. Bernard never said a word about his head that night, he claimed that he hurt his ankle, that was the reason the fight was stopped. He also lied about being pushed out of the ring. He went down head first, but his legs/ankles touched nothing but the air. He faked an injury to get out of an ass kicking.
Everyone's talking about the guy that didn't catch him, or that he fell on his head, but neither were a factor that night. Bernard was interviewed in his dressing room post fight, he laid outside the ring for 20 minutes roughly before that. A total of 30 to 45 minutes roughly, lying about an injury the entire time. He said nothing about his head. If Rogan had a pair he would have asked Bernard the obvious, why did you lie about an ankle injury that night?
There was no way he was going to continue even if he stayed in the ring.
We watched Bhop decline what are they talking about with that. He was able to adjust like few are. And treated his body in a way few do. But 40 yo Bhop was not like 32 yo Bhop who was not like 40 yo plus Bhop was most def different to 51 yo Bhop.
