Great Episode. I am a fan of his boxing and athleticism in general and as an older man which is un parralleled , but didnt know all that much about Bernard . Its somewhat of a monolouge but I thought it was rivetting . Man , does he have wisdom , man does he have pertinent info to share , man does he understand the " Art of War " which is about the most influential book in history far pre dating the bible and being something very different ( not competing for bes t sellers list :) ) but an ancient text that is still read by anybody truly successful over the " long game" . Bernard is a living example of that . His story is great and he is about as inspiring as ANYBODY EVER !!! Not only does he have the knowledge , his life exemplifies it and PROVES that what was written and what he says is real . This is not a self help guy getting rich telling people old wisdom and acting like SEE , I am somebody from following this info when all they did was re sell it to you to stack cash . This man acheived what is essentially considered IMPOSSIBLE and normally is , HE BEAT AGE , not once or twice , consistently until it was un deniable . Joe talks the least of any episode ever but its not a problem , Joe respects and has respected Bernard forever and has mentioned him so many times he knows to just let him go. Bernard starts with a theme , reinforces it with story and examples and ties it at the end to where it makes a great point. They say young men dont have examples of man hood , here is one and he is neither a baller despite making money or mr goody two shoes . Very balanced and very relateable wether you grew up in the toughest hood or a silver spoon crammed up your ass sideways he has EXTREMELY GOOD, USEABLE and WORTHWHILE stuff to share that can be applied to everything and for everybody . This is a SERIOUS PERSON OF NOTE , born of the Philly Streets and in the Pen by 17 who used that experience to gain knowledge . Very Impressive and one of the Best JREs ever . Bless Joe for highlighting Bernard this way , Joe puts Bernard in the highest esteem of almost anybody I have ever heard him speak of and he is a big fan of greatness so that says a bunch . I was not fully aware what made Bernard the ALIEN and where his super natural powers came from . Check out the whole thing . its amazing and uplifting without a single moment of being sappy or a single moment of somebody fronting . THIS IS WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A HARD MAN AS WELL AS A GOOD MAN , A MAN OF GREAT ACHIEVENMENTS WITH PRIDE IN THEM AND YET HUMBLE which is not that easy . Top Shelf shit.
In regards to Roy and the weight, he actually weighed in at 193, was 199 on fight night, so maybe he 'Only' put on 18 pounds of muscle. Also, if he walked around at 185 or 190 he would've essentially turned it into muscle
@@TheRaisinHead my point was that it's unlikely that he walked around at 175, he likely walked round heavier, and turned excess weight/fat into muscle. Hence why losing it did so much damage to his body. He had likely lost similar amounts of weight before, but not muscle.
Man I remember reading Sports Illustrated back in the early or mid 90’s and they had a RJJ feature talking about how he does cockfighting , was raised on a farm, were saying he’s the best pound for pound in the world, and him saying he could beat Mike Tyson. I was like “who tf is this dude?”. Then I saw his fight and understood.
Remember because of September 11 the Bernard Hopkins vs Felix Trinidad fight was also postponed for a few weeks forcing him to remain at 160ish really took it out of Trinidad. Plus Hopkins went home to train. Felix stood in New York donating his time and money to people suffering due to September 11. Remember Hopkins told reporters his walking around weight was 165lbs. Trinidad had a walking around weight of 185lb. In the fight you can tell Felix was a drained fighter. It was like watching Tyson vs Douglas all over again.
Andre and Hopkins were similar. Disciplined and stretched the rules a bit. Rjj was an amazing athlete and if he stayed at 175 may have dominated. I think weight jumping hurt him a bit. going from mw to hw and back to lhw took too much. Rjj was the best of the 3. All 3 we're great and being from the Philly area I have mad love for bhop.
B Hops got help from the referee by being allowed to continually headbutt Trinidad everytime Trinidad was starting to get momentum. Followed up with hug/grab. Trinidad was swollen on the middle of the head because of it. Plus, B Hops corner made Trinidad wrap his hand with more padding (unconventional/never done before hand wrapping) therefore taking away his power. B Hop was set to win. Philly!....
Hopkins was nutts for doing that to the flag lol... prime Roy was the most gifted fighter I've ever seen.. if he had retired after the first Tarver fight Roy would be the 3rd greatest fighter in history
Jones should have retired after he beat Tarver the first time. Yes, it was a close fight but he went down by two weight classes and he was starting to get older by that point and still won so he had no obligation to give Tarver another fight after that. Unfortunately, Roy went on for way too long and tarnished his career a little bit by losing fights he never would have lost in his prime, including the B-Hop rematch.
2003 was when Tyson knocked out Eitenne. He weighed 225 for Etienne. A full 10lbs lighter than he did for his previous fight against Lewis. Freddy Roach made Mike work hard in camp. Tyson, as long as he was still relatively light in weight, would have been too fast & powerful Roy, even at that stage. And that’s why Jones turned down $40,000,000.
Hopkins claiming that he could never lose to a white boy in the lead up to that fight then Calzaghe put it on him big time. Calzaghe out Roy Jonesing Roy Jones was insane to watch. Calzaghe is so underrated and underappreciated. 10 years of dominance over the middleweight division
Roy Jones was way past his prime and Calzaghe didn't batter Hopkins. It was an ugly fight thst could've went either way. Those fights did nothing for Calzaghe's legacy. I've always said Calzaghe instead should've fought Pavlik at a catchweight and Chad Dawson when they were both undefeted champions and retired. His legacy would've been viewed much better.

@Elreypachuco HAHA
Elreypachuco lmaoooooo
And now I'm watching Hopkins vs. Trinidad
Very happy to have lived through to see the Tyson v. Jones fight.
Watching this and hearing them talk about a potential fight between Roy vs Mike back in 2003 that never happened, and now is it finally happening in 2020.
Funny how Joe Rogan says Roy Jones putting on 25 lbs of muscle in his early 30s was due to steroids, but deny's that Yoel Romero ever took PED
All you Americans always forget about the man to beat them both joe calzaghe 🏴 🏴 undefeated and underrated
This Canadian never forgets..
BHop said he could never lose to a white boy
Funny how Joe mustered the nuts to finally step in the ring with those guys after they were past their primes.
Lozz Roy was well out of his prime by then and he had been flat out ko’d twice and Hopkins was 7 years older then Calzaghe
Joe calzaghe is only 3years you get than Roy
@@Solo_103 when exactly was calzaghes prime? no one knew who the fuck he was until 2007.
I fucking love the way ward carries himself. The mans got power with what he says. I look up to this man fr
As young kid seeing Roy gets knocked out for the first time felt was jaw dropping. My friends and I got real quiet.
Calzaghe never mentioned
Roy Jones Jr was one of the greatest and most athletic and skillful fighters of all-time. Jones in my opinion should have retired after He beat Ruiz. Hopkins is one of the greatest defensive and disciplined and intelligent fighters of all-time. 2 of the greatest of this generation
That RJJ vs Tyson wouldve been fun to watch. I do remember hearing about that possibility. But the left hook that took him out from Tarver, imagine what a hook from Tyson could do.
Tyson was washed
Joe should get Roy Jones Jr on his podcast!
Hmm
Tyson vs. Roy Jones would have been epic.
Tyson would've killed him
Roy could have been a really good heavyweight. Would have been interesting to see
@Badd Newz and Roy had a glass jaw
@Badd Newz prime Tyson before prison would've killed Roy.
We're All Thieves this comment has aged well lol
Jones/Tyson?!?! Would have been great
Andre Ward always has clean jordan gear lol
Oh, I remember this fighter. 'Son of Gwod'. Good fighter, never saw him clinch.
Prime Roy Jones Jr. is the best ever in ring ralent.
Hopkins was never on his level.
Roy Jones > Anyone
Creative Schmuck facts, the fact that they are talking abt Hopkins like he is anywhere near Roy Jones jr is absurd
And Joe Calzaghe schooled both of them then retired off his own back an unbeaten multi weight world champion. God Bless Joe Calzaghe. #italiandragon
Roy was untouchable the closest to To a Young Cassius Clay from the 60s Foreal it was a Life Changing to watch and for some reason i fell in love with Hopkins Something about that Discipline And Composure i just loved
And now after 17 years...Here we have CPT Hook Roy Jones vs. Iron Mike Tyson. Two of my favorite fighters of all time. I don't know who to root for.
Rob Rigler only 18lbs of muscle 😂. That’s a lot to put on and then lose.
@@TheRaisinHead my point was that it's unlikely that he walked around at 175, he likely walked round heavier, and turned excess weight/fat into muscle. Hence why losing it did so much damage to his body. He had likely lost similar amounts of weight before, but not muscle.
Why is full podcast private?
Bhop when he was younger (and young for him was 34-35) he actually had a lot of very high action fights with a lot of punches.
Yes he did brother
Man I remember reading Sports Illustrated back in the early or mid 90’s and they had a RJJ feature talking about how he does cockfighting , was raised on a farm, were saying he’s the best pound for pound in the world, and him saying he could beat Mike Tyson. I was like “who tf is this dude?”. Then I saw his fight and understood.
Jones Jr. in his prime is the GOAT
Everyone forgets that the second fight was after Roy came back down from heavyweight. Him losing around 20 pounds of muscle took something out of Roy
It was also 2 weeks after September 11th.....great fight🙂
My favorite fighter of all time B-hop!
Roy Mr Jones was a baaaad man. Still a legend!!
He had crazy biceps and no triceps. " that knocked me out.
Hopkins was always a drama queen, dirty tactic fighter.
After the shit he pulled with Calzaghe it was beautiful when Calzaghe won
Robin Paydon for sure !!
Yes , but he made the best of what he had , which was limited compared to someone like Roy Jones
Stfu
@@robinpaydon7139 stfu
I remember in Roys p4p days Andre carrying one of his belts to the ring
Mike and Roy are the goats .
RJJ in his prime was a monster
B Hops got help from the referee by being allowed to continually headbutt Trinidad everytime Trinidad was starting to get momentum. Followed up with hug/grab. Trinidad was swollen on the middle of the head because of it. Plus, B Hops corner made Trinidad wrap his hand with more padding (unconventional/never done before hand wrapping) therefore taking away his power. B Hop was set to win. Philly!....
Where can I find the full interview?
Last time I was this early Roe Jogan hadn't even said, "it is entirely possible."
B Hop goes to Planet Fitness I used to work at. You wouldn’t even think it was him
haahah
Flourtown?
Hopkins was nutts for doing that to the flag lol... prime Roy was the most gifted fighter I've ever seen.. if he had retired after the first Tarver fight Roy would be the 3rd greatest fighter in history
Roy was amazing but I reckon if Robinson, greb and Armstrong aren't your top 3 in any given order then you are doing it wrong
@@richardchampion8217 you could make very strong arguments for both of those legends no question
Good ole Andrew Ward lmao
The history didn't deserve a SUPER match of such capacity Tyson vs Roy ☠️
Danny Doyle duh lol
@@whysoserious4139 exactly
I remember when Bhop came to the gym right after he had the whole chase on video 😂😂
@JRE CLIPS It's Andre Ward not Andrew Ward. 🤣🤣🤣
And calzage battered them both and don’t say it cos they was older. They was all round the same age
Daniel B you don’t know boxing
@@rashaanallen402 Exactly
And you know nothing about boxing.
Joe's head is blinding me
Hopkins "Boxing Legend Period" 🔥🔥🔥
True discipline outside the ring the reason for his long successful career 👊
How I wish we could've seen more Jones at HW.
Joe Calzaghe 46-0 & beat both Roy Jones Jr. & Bernard Hopkins...Nobody talks about him
He beat them after their prime. That is probably why those wins are not talked about.
Micah Starkey Joe is only 3 years younger than Roy, he was also past his prime. His hands were shot.
Jj world So was he, close age
funny how Joe didn't fight Jones in prime eyy wonder why
I like joe he had good footwork and threw 1000 punches a round and retired undefeated
Prime Roy Jones Beats Everyone from 160-175.... But Prime SOG Beats Bernard
Idk about that
@@draieway1342 Nah Ward would beat Hopkins. The size difference is too much and Ward is very skilled. Ward is naturally bigger than Hopkins but Hop does use dirty tactics so he could always win as well
Two of the most different fighters, style wise
Andres such a good dude and low key. Never would think he was world champ boxer if you didnt follow it.
