- Using a dust extractor may not be a choice anymore. With the new OSHA Crystalline Silica mandate, you may be required to extract any dust you are making. I'll let you do the searching on the OSHA details, and we'll talk about the tools. For about $50, the Makita grinder dust shroud, along with a dust extractor (or shop vac), will all but eliminate the dust.
Grinding and sanding concrete can cause nasty dust that contains the aforementioned crystalline silica. This stuff is bad for your lungs, and it just gets really messy. The Makita dust shroud not only protects your lungs and body from exposure, but it also keeps the jobsite tidy.
If you think that spending $50 on a dust shroud is too expensive, this just seems silly. We don't even scoff at spending $150-300 on a new power tool. So, spending $50 on better health and a cleaner shop and jobsite should be a no-brainer. Check it out from your local Home Depot or from HomeDepot.com. The price is $51.99, and you'll be happy you did. It's the 7" Makita grinder dust shroud. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I had a lot of old pipes and rebar to cut up and from what I read czcams.com/users/postUgkxPDBfLu68o58Aw85O_J-zIFfjJARBhp-3 this would be the tool for the job. Since I had never used one, I watched a couple of youtube videos and I'm so glad I did. Some really good safety tips, which I followed, and this tool did a splendid job. One good thing to know is the weight of the tool puts just about the right amount of pressure on the metal I was cutting, so I didn't have to use a lot of pressure, which is more likely to jam the tool. It made fast work of my job.
I put a dust shroud on my 4 1/2 grinder. Was roughing up a concrete slab to prep for self leveler. The room was a 20 square foot bathroom. I still saw that dust shooting out to the right and the room would get so cloudy I had to stop because I had no visibility. I was using a diamond cup grinder. I saw how clean yours was, there was obviously an issue with mine. I can’t figure it out though, it’s not like it’s a complicated piece of machinery… it’s a round shroud with a vacuum attached to it. It was so bad that I thought at first I might have had my shop vac blowing in stead of sucking, but it wasn’t. It had strong suction.
You need a really strong vacuum, like a 6.5 peak horsepower, or you need to have 2 Vaccum attach to the grinder to compensate. I use my with the ridgid 6 peak horsepower and is just like you say.
How does this affect your vision of what the blade is doing?
What about when cutting?
Thank you for the video. Is there any difference with using a Makita 5010C which is supposed to be more appropriate?
What is the name of the metal plate you attach before the diamond cup?
Is the dust hard on the shop vac?
(I have an automatic switch for mine, & it's nice to have, BTW)
The wheel is lower than the shopvac attachment. what should i do?
Hello, does the shroud act as the gaurd ? Do you not need the gaurd, that comes with the grinder, when you use the shroud ?
Thank You.
Yes, the shroud takes the place of the guard during grinding. You cannot fit both on at once.
great video. How does this work with wood? We want to grind the inside of our log house.
Sir it is available in market
will this work with a morta rake attatchment on instead of a grinding disc? thanks
👍
What filter do you use on shop vac? Filter plugged in minutes. Had to remove filter and exhaust outside which was a huge mess.
I used a Makita VC4710 dust extractor with a fleece bag as the pre-filter, which catches all the concrete dust, allowing the pleated filters to remain unclogged.
Filters on wet dry vacs are for anything that gets PAST THE VAC BAG that you should always use. Thats how the vac works.
Should also have a HEPA filters Model VC4710 for your Makita grinder. Standard filters not rated for silica. Btw about 100.00 for filters.
does makita have something bigger so i can use for big m2 jobs to prep for expoxy jobs?
I don't think they have anything bigger than their 7".
Can you use a masonry grinder blade to grind down cement?
You can, but performance won't be as good as more specific grinding cups. Thanks for watching.
Do they have one for 4.5"?
I think the bristles are not meant to wear down with the blade, they allow air to flow in so that the vacuum can work, this system needs really good airflow. The flexible part at the top is what adjusts the depth.
They do wear down but not that quickly as blade.
We can fixed cutting disk with this
Show us it being used, looks like it’s going to get in the way of for a lot of uses
You can easily remove it where it gets in the way, but then you have dust flying everywhere.
Does fits to different brands grinder too?
Not that we know of. Thanks for watching.
You can make grooves in metal ring where needed. That's what I did to fit Chinese shroud from aliexpress to a DeWalt grinder.
Please send me the online link
You never turned it on. Is there a flaw?
At 1:27 into the video I was grinding concrete
do they do it in 9 inch
It looks like they do it for cutting with the 9-inch, but not for grinding.

Shroud is too much money! As much as my generic the 7” grinder power tool.
Makita great company. Worth it imo
Generic tools are rarely reliable as professional tools. Rarely as affective. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for....
@@dk2614 lotta cheap plastic parts. Not reliable.
👍
Harbor freight is your friend, eBay or Amazon. A lot of generic shrouds available for around $30
I want to buy
You can find them online for about $50US
none of my hoses ever connect properly to the sander or grinder its a joke that they dont make ones that fit... finding the adapter peice is even more of a bitch...
We totally agree with you. There needs to be more standards for dust collection. It's a pain finding the correct adapter for each tool.
Bd pries?????
I'm not sure of the question.
I remember when they passed that law, osha visited my job (I work in a block plant) and made us work an entire shift with these weird fucking contraptions strapped to our hips to monitor the amount of dust that lingers in the air. Dude gave me shit cause I ended up breaking mine and I told him good get your stupid ass toys off me now.
That's really funny. I'd love to write an article on that. :)
The entire purpose of this piece of equipment is to reduce the amount of inhaled silica dust since the dust is extremely harmful to exist as a functioning human. I had a parent who suffered from inhalation of a harmful substance. It is to protect the worker and all those around the worker. So you got monitored. Big deal. I would rather test people to make sure they are safe from harm due to exposure of a known hazard. Your other option is to wear respiratory protection when grinding.
I would be pretty upset if you broke one of my pieces of equipment since they aren't cheap. and since you broke it the data collected isn't really worth anything. I like my job and I have a family to feed. It's what I do and it matters.
3.5 seconds to long..
Sorry, wish it were shorter. Thanks for watching.
@@Shoptoolreviews I was being sarcastic. 3.5 seconds is pretty good. thanks for the reply
Dude you didn’t show me shit you just talked the whole time you didn’t even demonstrate why the fuck I should buy this product lol
