  • This is my review of the Hoka Tecton X 2, the best trail shoe Hoka may have ever created. It's not that different compared to the original Tecton X but it's such a greta shoe overall. Shop it here to help the channel: shrsl.com/468zn

Raced a 200-miler in the original, and most recently a 50 ultra in the X2. It’s just what you say it is, except in mud (where there are many better options). Highly recommend.

I haven’t run in the Hoka Tecton x or x2. But I’d like to point out that with trail shoes, it’s always a matter of what sort of trail they are intended for. My impression is that the Tecton x2 is mainly aimed at dry, less technical trails, that is, not very muddy and without much of roots or loose rocks. I’m sure they are both comfy and fast feeling on the trails they are intended for, but I would still not buy them for technical forrest trails. For that you would want something with slightly deeper lugs and more grip.

I've got the v1, I've tried it a bit, personally I prefer Saucony Edge, the tecton x is using EVA, it does not offer the same kind of energy return if you are looking for pure speed over non technical terrain ... and if you are looking for speed on technical terrain, the tecton X felt a bit clunky to me, maybe the v2 fixes that a bit with the new upper ... but I would rather go with something more agile, more fitted .. of those I own ... maybe something like inov8 g270 that fits like a glove or something really light like the salomon pulsar ... s/lab ultra 3 also appears interesting .. and if you are looking to run long distance .. then there are many options like Xodus Ultra, Ultraglide, Speedgoat, etc

I loved the original Tecton X, 500 miles on them now (and I’m not done with them). When it came out it seemed to be slightly dismissed as a bit expensive and unnecessary.

I’d be interested to see what you think of the new North Face Summit Vectiv by way of comparison.

Thanks for the review! It would be interesting if we compare that later against the Nike Ultrafly. They are both positioned for speed on not-too-technical-trails.

  • @MarkSmith_Best-Athletics

I don't run on the trails a pot since injury in 2018 and so don't buy many trail shoes.

  • @ajmartinez1906

Nice Review Mr Alex, but I'm wondering how this shoe would go against the Zinal 2?

  • @arielcalim233

Great review. I am buying x2.

  • @hanseriksand4565

How do you feel the X2 is «rolling over» / transition from heel/midfoot to toe; compared to Speedgoat (that I feel really helps my feet doing this)?

  • @steveh8758

I’ve only got the tecton x 1 but it’s better then the Nike ultrafly

  • @mircocampanaro4449

For me a very good shoe, but on muddy ground it is very bad. The central part of the sole with all that exposed EVA and low studs makes it slippery.

  • @scherry2900

Steep price and now the V3 will be 275 dollars 🤣

  • @charlesjolley700

Not sure about that. Firm, dull, and unresponsive-just like most all Hokas

Used to love Hoka shoes 'till they went woke.
