  • What is going on guys! Super excited to do another episode of the The Rundown. In this video I'm comparing two of the best carbon plated trail shoes out there. We have the Hoka Tecton X 2 vs Adidas Agravic Speed Ultra. I had a super tough time trying to pick between the two because even though they're both carbon plated (sort of), they couldn't be more different when it comes to the rides of the shoes.
Let me know what you think of my pick or if you agree/disagree.

Hi, thank you for the review, just a question: how about the break in for the Adidas Agravic Speed Ultra vs the Tecton X2?

@@robytosso9311 thanks for watching! Both are pretty much ready to go from the start, more so the Speed Ultra. I felt like the plate in the tecton need like 15 miles to loosen up a bit. I actually bent the shoe a lot with my hands to loosen it up before then because it felt a little too stiff on the trails

Solid review and comparison. You made some great points, how much benefit will most of us doing ultras really get from a carbon plated shoe when were just trying to complete it in a reasonable time.

Thanks man, yeah I really do enjoy them but I just used the zegama 2 for 75 miles of an ultra and then switched to the tecton x for the last 25 miles and hated life lol.

Having raced a technical Rocky Mountains 50k in the Agravic Speed Ultra, it can certainly handle technical trails well (with strong ankles) and is the closest trail shoe equivalent to road supershoes. Nonetheless, I do agree that the Tecton X is the more traditional shoe and will be the better shoe for most people.

Solid man. Yeah it definitely feels way closer to a true super road shoe than the tecton x

Thanks@@TheMilesMatter Also would be great to know which are the cheaper trail shoes you'd recommend that compare with the Tecton X 2 and Speed Ultra?

@@javieriglesias6556 Honestly I don’t think there’s going to be a lot like the Speed ultra. I think it really sets itself apart from a lot of the trail shoes but I’m not super versed on the trail shoe realm but as far as the tecton goes it’s on the firmer side, not super flexible and pretty snappy so I’m not sure what would compare but I’m convinced you could find a trail shoe around that $140-$180 range that would feel the same/ give you a similar ride.
