@@RyanMear Truly. To me it's like listening to Havergal Brian's Gothic symphony. Something new on every listen. Tuomas could easily repurpose similar riffs and chords over and over, but being genuinely creative he swings between a song like this one and Sleeping Sun, and from that to Romanticide, and thence to The Greatest Show on Earth. I can see him sitting at a keyboard plunking something out and shaking his head, muttering, "No, I did that already", and then trying something completely new.
Welcome to the Nightwish Theater. They are great story tellers. I've heard/seen many people comment that it feels like you watched a whole movie after listening to one song.
I'm a 66 year old bassist/percussionist who discovered NIGHTWISH over 2 years ago....they still blow me away. No matter how many times I watch reactors freak out over this great band, I never get tired of it. In just over 2 years this band from Finland has become my favorite band...how the hell did that happen, right? Enjoy your NIGHTWISH journey...we musicians are definitely enjoying ours. Thanks! 🎸🎛🥁🎙👍🏻
Kai is one of the best technical drummers in the world right now. Jazz trained in NYC and plays the high hat and left bass at the same time when needed just moves his heel over. This is from a 70-year-old Buddy Rich fanatic. Listen to Tribal from Human Nature.
Oh, interesting! I spent a good bit of time teaching myself to keep time on hihat with my left hand, play kick with my right foot and play snare with my left foot. (Electronic kit) because right now I'm not supposed to use my right arm..... it was.... frustrating, but I made some progress.
Kai is an absolute monster. We call him the human metronome. Or a drumming machine-gun, because of that footwork. Also, "Slaying the Dreamer" from this same show, for more Floor/Marko conversations, and Emppu going ham on the whammy bar.
I think you have Nightwish figured out... 1. Always expect the unexpected and you won't be disappointed... 2. Prepare to be amazed, again and again!... 3. Everyone in this band is a Beast!

A bad part about reviewing/reacting to Nightwish is that all too often they think they know what is coming next. It is amazing how often they're wrong. That's Nightwish. Nightwish does and has everything, and on top of that, there is drama.
This song was originally with Tarja and a guest vocalist doing the 'Devil' deep vocals, they've revamped it for this tour which was the "recopilation" tour for their 20th years. Most of the old stuff played here is likely not going to be played again live. The original is great too but I prefer this one, it's more teatrical
This and "Slaying The Dreamer" are my favourite from the Buenos Aires concert, their theatricality is just something else. :) I really liked your analysis of the musicianship involved!
Keep exploring the NW catalog. You’ll never go wrong. After binge watching all your NW reactions I feel confident suggesting Ayreon-the day that the world breaks down. 11 different metal singers and one big Easter Egg at the end of the song. No peeking!
It's basically musical theater/opera.... but METAL!!!! :D And every artist includes pieces of themselves in every creation, so this has themes of oceans, biology and how to save the oceans and dolphins etc... because when he was young, Tuomas wanted to be a marine biologist and still loves the ocean and biology. So he often pulls themes and thoughts from that background to his works :)
Happy days, another reaction from you! As soon as your reactions appear in my notifications, I save 'em straight to 'Watch later'. I don't want to miss a single one. It's songs like this, though, that make me realise how much Marko is missed. Just watch his hand movements, as he shreds the bass! I really hope he returns. Now off to watch you react to Seven days to the wolves. :-)
I really like your analysis. You really like what you are experiencing - not just hearing and seing - you feel it! And yes Floor is the perfect storyteller, because she becomes the story - and look at all their faces, so happy and into the music. And you notices this, and gets happy and captured right into the music as well - and still manages to follow everything that is going on. Great reaction from you 👍 🤘 🤘
you've picked the one i've suggested!! :) this song is so.. i don't know, different i guess.. because i feel like there's so many things happening. it's such an amazing performance with outstanding interpretations. i just love it! lol
Great reaction. If you like this you will love Ghostriver. Again a back and forth between Floor and Marco. This time with an 80's vibe. And the most seductive Floor you will ever see:)
And to think initially, Tuomas wanted a Keltic folk inspired acoustic band. He soon came to realise that the music he'd written wasn't at all suited to play acoustically, so hey, in came the electrification and we've all been amped ever since. Glad I've stumbled across yer channel. You're one of the more down-to-Earth reactors and a likable fellar. Subscribed a couple of days ago. Greetings and well-wishes from Belgium. Cheers mate.
You know, he also really has a celtic(ish) folk music band. ☺️ Along with his wife Johanna and the wonderful Troy. They're called Auri, and the music is beautiful ♥️
This was a great way to start the day after a very, very short night and I still was on a high because of last night's (second) Nightwish livestream, which was absolutely stellar. I'm going to re-watch that one right now!

Watching this video was a good start of the day, thanks! I’d like to suggest Weak Fantasy live from Tampere (if you don’t mind some criticism on religion😊).
Hey man I am with you, I love seeing your reactions, reminds me when I first heard these songs. This band, all of them, mega-talented, the composer and founder (Tuomas Holopainen), complete musical genius and poet, all starts in his mind. Floor was what drew me to this band, her voice is the greatest I ever heard, any genre, my opinion, but the power of the music of this band is unparalleled for me. Some songs I like more than others, all I like. No band I ever listened to could I say that about. You will never find your favorite Nightwish song because it may not have been written yet, or you overlooked it, but if you let the band and music take you, fantastic journeys you won't regret. I got extensive musical tastes, lots of genres, love Alice in Chains, love many many bands and types of music, at this point after more than a year I am sold. This is the greatest I have ever heard, and Floor is my Valkyrie Goddess and Fierce Queen.
Spot on reaction again Ryan .....kai is definitely the more technical drummer of the two , jukka beats the crap out his drums and plays with alot of feel ......i watched the 2 virtual concerts by them on friday and saturday and it was FUCKING AMAZING ( of course ) and as great as the Band was ....The Valkyrie Goddess stole the damn 2 nights ....She's better than ever if that was possible ...her voice , stage presence is off the charts and she looked as good as she sounded and Yes Marko was Missed .

there are so many things about this song but what you should start with is the notes the spaces between the notes and how its going to sound with these other sounds coming in like how should drums sound and for how long and what kind of pace to start with its really beginnings middles bridges and ending and how they can compose such beautiful guitar tones look these professional musicians are masters of the kind of music they make and no one else really puts finnish heavy metal together with symphonic elements in it. Their particular kind of music is intellectually stimulating, they compose epic pieces of music and with the lyrics and quite positive and on the powerful side
