    ★ ABOUT ME ★
Hi I'm Doe, I live in England with my partner and our little jack russell. I make CZcams videos about all the things I love, so you will see a lot of Beatles and Queen related content, music reviews and reactions, vinyl record hauls and unboxings and showing my record collection. Also we are both vegan and love plants and love growing our own food on our allotment and tasting new vegan food. I love art so you will see some creative projects on here as well as fashion, especially from the 50s/60/70s, I love that vintage style. I also vlog from time to time, especially if I'm travelling or showing you parts of England, hiking in the country, out on the motorbike or exploring a medieval castle.

This song has an old-time feel, with a ragtime sound and lyrics that could easily have come from the 1930s.. The song was written by Freddie Mercury under his vaudevillian/music hall influence.
The song is probably best remembered for its “jazz band” bridge section performed vocally by Freddie and Roger Taylor in the middle part of the song. The song’s “musical” bridge section was performed entirely by Freddie and Roger using their voices alone, with Roger at one point hitting the highest note on the whole album.
Freddie imitates woodwind instruments including a clarinet. Roger voices mainly brass instruments such as tubas and trumpets and even a kazoo. The tap dance segment is also “performed” by Freddie and Roger on the mixing desk with thimbles on their fingers. Freddie plays both a grand piano and jangle honky-tonk.
This is one of the few Queen songs without Brian participating at all.

The first song on ANATO that I fell in love with . I love how Freddie and Roger do the sounds of the instruments with their voices. Freddie said in an interview that he tried to get Roger to tap dance, but had to settle for thimbles on the consol instead .

Heyup DD, yet another classic with a 20's vibe......An entire solo made up of mouth-imitated trumpets, trombones and clarinets, kazoos and slide-whistles. A Freddie-desired actual tap solo was eventually performed using thimbles on the mixing desk, but still, it’s in there.

Such an awesome, bouncy song. Its too bad they never sang this live. What I love most about Queen is how diverse their music is. I love the vaudeville vibe. Seaside Rendezvous definitely puts a smile on my face, very light and bouncy. "Lazing on a Sunday afternoon" and "Good Company" (sung by Brian playing a banjolele) have that same cheery, music hall-vaudeville vibe, both are highly recommended. They say that for the "tap dance" sound effect, one of the guys wore metal thimbles on his fingers, very clever. The kazoo was actually Roger's voice, I think he did something similar in "dreamer's ball". Also, with the line "I'll be your Valentino", its clever how he's referring to Rudolf Valentino, a legendary silent film actor known as "the Latin lover of the silent screen." Freddie also referred to him in "Good old-fashioned lover boy".

Who doesn't like to start their week off with a little Vaudeville and a smile? I love this little song it is so clever and all the ambient sounds just take it to another level. Most of those strange sounds Roger and Freddie are making with their voices and the little tapping sound is them on the mixing table with thimbles on their fingers. Thank you for your reaction.

A romantic at play and a wizard with words. (Good grief, how I miss Freddie.)
Both Freddie and Brian wrote songs in this vein that showed how much they admired the quality of the lighthearted tunes of the 1920s.
Both Queen and The Beatles really knew their musical legacy and allowed themselves to be inspired by it in so many ways. I wonder if we are ever going going to experience such knowledgeable and creative bands again?

  • @sharonallforloveandpositiv5497

Every sound is mostly their voices. The tapping you here was Roger with thimbles on his fingers on the production desk. They were very experimental in their sounds and voices. Very 39s or 40s I feel... Freddie and Queen were very versatile indeed. Other similar feels to earlier decades is Bring back that Leroy Brown, or Lazing on a Sunday afternoon. Fun fact, Freddie sung Lazing on a Sunday afternoon with a bucket over the mic to get the "old fashioned" sound, another typical very British song, 30s sounding again in my opinion. Queen never fail to disappoint. Considering Freddie was born in Stone Town Zanzibar he certainly became typically British took on the very British ways. Thank the gods Freddie came to Britain, although the circumstances surrounding why he and his family had to flee to Britain were dire, i am so glad Britain got him. Queen played along every genre....and Freddie sung them all perfectly. He could sing anything. Fantastic band. Fantastic sounds and songs.

There is one thing about that song, in fact most songs of that era (sheer heart attack through a day at the races albums) that you discount. Namely it is a part the album not just an individual song. Try to hear a night at the opera album back to back and you will see that seaside rendezvous has its specific place in creating the atmosphere. Freddie wanted Queen's music to be “like Bic razors. For fun, for modern consumption. You listen to it, like it, discard it, then on to the next. Disposable pop.” This song is between very hard and serious songs Sweet Lady and the Prophet's Song so a listener's mood needed to be lightened up a bit. After all the album is named after a comedy movie.
Basically the purpose of this song (apart from being a fun piece of music on its own right) is to do something similar to the final line of One Vision. That song was pretty damn serious, written after the memorable Live Aid concert and loosely based on Martin Luther King's I have a dream speech: lyrics say "I had a dream when I was young/A dream of sweet illusion/A glimpse of hope and unity/And visions of one sweet union..." and end up with "Give me one hope... gimme fried chicken!"

I remember putting this song on when it snowed after YEARS (more than thrity years) in my town after my uncle called me saying how it was snowing outside! I ran outside and was in complete disbelief. Didnt stop me from dancing in my driveway! I put on this song and just let myself spin. I also made a snow turtle named Freddie :)
