  • Bought my neighbor's old tire changer. This thing is probably from the '60s or maybe '70s.

In 1968, I worked at Montgomery Ward Auto Center in Greensburg PA and used the Coats 1010 Super Powerman machine to mount tires. I thought the Coats 1010 was a miracle machine, as I could break and change a tire in short order, and the machine did all the work! I would love to have one of these indestructible machines.

My good friend in NJ just brought one down to my garage in VA. She's old but works pretty damn good after cleaning it up a little. I just finally had a chance to use it on my old farm truck.

My first job as in Brandon Fl, at the now defunct Phillips 66, and I used that tire change machine many times there. Started at age 15 in 1970 past 1972, and left the old style truck split rims to the boss to do. There were so many injuries from that style of split rims, as I recall they were finally outlawed. Ah, those were the days of old bubble balancing the tires too. Hey, watch out! No more "old...old...OLD...stuff", LOL.

Nice tire machine.. u gotta get the matching tire balancer.. i forget the model number tho.. the one with the tire cover and spins tire to 5 mph....

Those "dynamic" balanacers that fit on the rims, and then shove the motor against the tire to spin it, were dangerous, often could come off the rimm. Had set of little wheels in the center you could brake a bit to move the indicator for where the weights went. We only used it if someone came back after a bubble balance complaining they still had a problem at higher speed.

This may be an odd question, but how much do you think this 1010 weighs? I bought one off Craigslist and have to pick it up but don't have access to a truck or trailer at this time. I'm hoping I'll be able to put it in the trunk on it's side in a 2011 Honda Accord. Do you think it'll fit? Would the weight of it be too much? It's 100 miles away from where I live, so any insight you would have would be appreciated.

@@mrmotofy Actually, it did fit in the trunk of my 2011 Honda Accord. The fellow I bought it from had a Cherry Picker and it was hooked up to it when I arrived. We pumped it up, and slid it in sideways slicker than you know what in about 3 minutes time. I put a moving blanket over it and tied the trunk lid down and was off. Now when I went to take it out of the trunk that was a different story. My Cherry Picker was 50 miles away, and unavailable. Good thing for me my neighbor had a BobCat, and we hooked it up and it slid up and out with no problems. Now if he hadn't had the BobCat then I don't know what we would have done, cause 2 guys wouldn't of gotten it out. :)

@@tjiowa01 No you did not. Stop lying to stroke your ego. This will not, can not, and will never fit in a 2011 Accord. Furthermore the weight of it will never be supported by the chassis or the suspension. It weighs over 600lbs. You endanger yourself as well as everyone else on the road as well as totally destroy your car. Moron.
