Restoring stinky dead Lenovo laptop

- Hi everyone, In this video I restore Lenovo laptop. The laptop was very overheated, dead GPU and very heavy smell has coming from the inside. Later I was told that this laptop is used in store that works with chemicals and colors. Anyway after cleaning the smell is gone and after turning off the dedicated GPU the laptop is working normally. In the video below I have basic explanation how physically turning off the GPU is working. This is possible with most laptop models, the component that needs to be removed it depends from the laptop model, motherboard design, etc.

seeing how much damages smoking can do to electronics just imagine what it does to lungs

this should be a warning for chronic smokers. but as always, they don't care.
The only good thing is that the body can self repair smoke damage. But this doesn't make you immune just prolongs the effects of smoking which will kick in at some point in the form of cancer or some other lung disease.

Good save! Yeah, smoking near electronics is never a good thing. And if the dedicated GPU is completely dead with no hope of repair, just disabling it in hardware is the best bet.
Also for my uses I would have added a second 2.5in HDD or SSD. 256GB is not much and will quickly get consumed.

These kinds of laptops are made to be thrown away when they break, who screws the metal hinges into a plastic topcase? Lenovo surely does! I have almost the same kind of laptop, you shouldlloosen the hinges, i did this to my lenovo machine, i can open the lid with 1 finger, the screen stays in all the positions i tilt it to, and the laptop is not flexing when opening or closing it. And for the sleepmode, you can set it up so the computer enters hibernation when you close the lid, it's the same as sleepmode, means you can resume from where you left off, but instead of loading your session directly from ram, it gets stored and pulled from the ssd, which takes 5 seconds longer, and your laptop will be completely off whenever it is in hibernation.

Well, you can always salvage parts from older laptops and put them into the new one. Depend on which model that you're using.

Hi Andrew, greetings from Mexico, I love your computer restoration videos, I also love restoring all electronic equipment, I have a question, what liquid do you use to restore the rubber casing of laptops, it's super sticky and I tried isopropyl alcohol but it doesn't work.

No wonder this poor thing was overheating on regular. The laptop is completely brown from the inside and the brown mess is acting like insolation preventing heat from escaping.
That is disgusting, now I wonder how must the lungs of the person smoking look like. Probably not good.

Hey Andrew, I watched one of your videos on repairing laptops and desktop PCs. As a computer enthusiast, I used to work at a company called Cell Phone Repair and PC Services a few years ago, where I fixed Chromebooks. It's quite challenging to find components for broken Chromebooks, including the motherboard, the LCD screen, and the touchpads. However, if I were to fix a desktop computer with the right parts, it would be like building a new laptop. I usually find laptop motherboards on eBay, as well as SODIMM DDR3 RAM and CPUs. Depending on what model that I am using. Any tips and tutorials on fixing laptops?
Can u also add repair cost in every video, it will be helpful to get an idea

That was great. I do have a concern about washing the cooling fan though. Detergent and water are going to remove lubricant from the fan bearing so I suspect it will not work very long before wearing out and getting noisy.
I can't understand how laptops get to that condition, I also have that model of computer, I would like to make a video similar to yours when restoring a laptop

you didn't restore this laptop, you just deleted some of its functions and created a disabled Frankenstein. Restoration is when you completely restore something, rather than removing parts from it.
This means that you had to replace the broken GPU.
Imagine that the back of your chair has broken and you are giving it away for restoration. The master, instead of fixing your chair, just took and cut off the back. This is not a restoration, he just removed the broken part.
he made the laptop somewhat work again atleast, so you could argue that saved it from ending in ewaste
