  • In this video I show how to change the combination of a Squire CP40 to a new code. I also explain how to recover/decode a lost combination code. I take a brief look at the possible vulnerabilities and the internal mechanism.

    Cant seem to get this to work as some of the dials click on every number. Any solutions?

      @sotonlock7894  Před 3 měsíci

      I’m sorry, not sure what the clicks are on your lock, all of the wheels on my lock spin freely. Is your lock old or rusty?

    Looks like an easy decode, no tool needed even, very poor as an 'improvement' thanks Paul

      Your right, I actually think that the “CP” stands for “Child’s Play” 😂, since I think a child could decode these style of locks. Thanks for watching and the comments.

    May you suggest a good combination padlock?

    • @sotonlock7894
      @sotonlock7894  Před 28 dny +1

      Thank you for watching. Unfortunately most combination locks have weakness so I wouldn’t recommend one. It really depends on your situation, is it to be used as locker lock, outdoors, unattended for long periods of time, how much you want to spend etc. One of the reasons I decode so many combination locks is to find one that is reasonably priced, strong and difficult to decode. I haven’t found one yet and I doubt if I ever will. The one in video #13 is a basic starter and if you can find one then a Sargent & Greenleaf 8077 is hard to beat, but make sure you get one with a known combination and change key. If you do get a 8077 watch lots of CZcams as they can be difficult to change the code.
      ***I wouldn’t lock anything of any value with a combination lock***
      I hope this helps.

    Is it possible that mine is jammed as my shackle will not spring open 😮

    • @sotonlock7894
      @sotonlock7894  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Assuming you have the right code, will the shackle open if you pull on it? It is possible that the shackle spring is crushed etc. Thank you for watching and your comment.

    • @sotonlock7894
      @sotonlock7894  Před 4 měsíci

      I don’t think there is a tool that will get this lock open without destroying it in the process.

    • @penfold7800

      @@ricardasbalsys9363you can't use a shim on these as the palls locking mechanism is fixed, not sprung. Equally, you can't use a feeler tool between the wheels as the wheels are shielded internally and externally. If this lock is jammed and thus can't be picked as shown here, then it's probably going to be easier to cut through the chain or hasp in an emergency. Otherwise it's easy enough to destroy this locks casing and split it open to remove it. The shackle is through-hardened toughened steel alloy so a hss saw or 24" Bolt croppers won't do it. 36" Bolt cutters should work but it's likely the jaws will get damaged in the process and they're expensive to replace. Hence using a cheap chisel and lump hammer.
