  • This is a video about the built of my high-end electronic drum snare for Roland, ATV and 2Box Modules.
    ✭ Facebook: goo.gl/sW6z3S
    ✭ Webpage: www.v-drumtips.com
    This dual trigger is self-made and inspired by the triggers of drum-tec shells. The trigger quality is similar to Roland, drum-tec, DDT Drums and R-drums.
    The jack connector is isolated to make sure the pad does not fail trigger when touching the shell metal.
    The parts I used:
    ► R-Drums Triggers: goo.gl/Nvr4FD
    ► drum-tec Real Feal Mesh Head: goo.gl/cb6RPV
    ► drum-tec Basic Mesh Head: goo.gl/zkzhTs
    ► Rim Noise Eliminator: amzn.to/2vTF9Vh
    ► TAMA Tension Watch: amzn.to/2OOXZ8u
    Similar Snare: amzn.to/2MsVRll
    Playing Example: • Foo Fighters - Everlon...
    Why a resonant mesh head?
    An open mesh snare made out of an acoustic snare shell would be very loud without a resonant mesh head and it would look weird. The one ply head is cheap enough and I hate it when things are built half-arsed.

    This is the kind of design I wish all edrum manufacturers would go with.

      65 Drums Well, then all pads would be in the Roland price range. This design is expensive and people do not want to spend much money on triggers. They rather go for cheap internals and nice outside look. After 2 years time, the foam comes off or is compressed and stops triggering well. These system can be adjusted if the foam shrinks and nothing comes off. Another great and very important factor is that the centre is not vibrating. The cheaper systems keep “shaking” too long after the hit, which causes fail triggers or an inaccurate triggering. And still, my system is not at the level of the R-Drums RTS. There is nothing better than those solid aluminium arms.

      I did this setup almost 2 years ago. Frankly I will never buy a trigger system from any other manufacture. Mine is still going fine. Cone is great and has just performed day after day. Played the Roland 30 and 50 a few times and I will take mine any day. This is a great video.

      @@Vdrumtips1 Hi, I was completely perplex, yesterday giving my Jobeky snare trigger a 2nd chance on the eDRUMin4. Nope. You acutally could see in the transient view of the eDRUMin4 software the vibrating trigger system. I think that's why Jobeky need a rather soft decoupler. But I am still impressed, that this drum-tec style design do not need a decoupler below the head trigger. Besides the foam tape...

    Great design, thank you. I would like to adopt that, but with a slightly different mechanical approach. Do you think I would get out-of-phase issues when placing the rim piezo centered on the underside of the plate? It would have to be flipped over then. If it was an acoustic guitar I would get those troubles. Logic says if I use the piezo signal for triggering I won't. What do you think? Thanks in advance!

    Hi, are you able to offer advice on my current e snare setup as I am struggling with sensitivity? I am not sure where the problem is. I have the thomann transformer kit triggering superior 2.0. From new the snare wasn't very sensitive regardless of settings so I replaced the trigger with a centre mount setup from quite a well known brand, this made the problem worse so I bought a new drum module, alesis trigger io, this didn't really help. I decided to modify the trigger using your diy centre mount video. This helped a little. Then I experimented with cutting down the foam cone in stages, this also helped. I have also tried various mesh heads to no avail. What would your suggestion be to get good sensitivity from my e snare at a good price, I have spent a fortune so far and it's pretty awful. The rest of the kit works very well btw. Many thanks.

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  Před 6 lety

      Julian Holman That’s a Millennium drum set right? Well the trigger I.O. Is not really meant to be a main module. That’s the problem with the cheap brands like Alesis and Millennium. Their stuff does not work well, especially not in the entry level segment. Get a Roland module and the problem will be solved.

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  Před 6 lety +1

      Julian Holman Every module from Roland is better than your current stuff. I would look into a TD-9 or if the budget is tight, a TD-4.

    Great video and editing. As someone new to E-drums, wouldn't it just be easier (and about the same cost) to just buy a PD-140DS and call it a day? Then you'd have the advantage of a warranty as well.

      To use the digital triggers you need the TD50, TD50x, or TD27. They are not cheap, but this kind of analog snare works with any module! As an electrical and software engineer, I'm building a multi-sensor digital snare just like Rolands version. It only works with a computer running a VST such as SSD5.5 or Superior drummer. It functions as it's own midi controller and has a lot more functions such as natural cross-stick, positional sensing, and many expressive rim sounds.

      Peter Griffin Electric drums That would financially ruin me:) These systems/ snares would be too expensive and the design is patented. Besides, would you want to pay 350-400$ for one snare?

    • @petergriffinelectricdrums4164
      @petergriffinelectricdrums4164 Před 6 lety

      Vdrum Tips - Vdrum Tips - YESSSSSS HELL YESSSSSS I WOULD PAY $400 dollars for a Acoustic Electric Hybrid Snare!! Lots of people would! LoL okay okay don’t quit your regular job- YoU could do this part time then and make profit yes?
      If someone mailed you their Acoustic Snare - How much would it costs for all the parts/wiring you did in this video? If all the parts / triggers/ wiring you bought too build this is only around $200 or so , Then if you charged people $350 or $400 that’s a pretty good part time profit yes? Depending on how much time does it actually take to do one Snare Drum like in this video? If it’s an hour or less that’s a pretty good part time profit 4realz!!
      Because shoot all these other Companies that sell Acoustic Looking Triggered Electric Snares are all 12 inch and us Drummers HATE THAT CRAP! We all would love to have OUR own Regular size 14 inch Snare hooked up professional like this!!! 4realz my dude! Shoot instead of me using an Aquarian On-Head Trigger for my Acoustic Snare I’m using now- I would much prefer THIS than that!
      Roland sells their High end Pads New for like $400 my Aquarian On-Head Snare Head cost me $200. So hell yeah if I could get My Own Snare hooked up - The Answer is “HELL YES!!””
