    I do that trick sometimes with my arm to my chest. I will use a attachment sometimes too. I have learned sections of my beard part or grow up on my neck. I can't just go down to trim my beard or it takes a gauge out of it. I don't use a straight razor. I just use my clippers and I will also use a beard tool sometimes. I don't like my beard rounded off as much as square. One side always rounds off perfect and the other never turns out. The hair just grows different. Just know your beard I guess. I like how his turned out. I'll fade it out like he does sometimes.

    underneath look? This was a great beard video

      I'm not too sure on the similarities between the two pencils. But the beard pencil is very, very soft. So easy to smudge.

      Hey RobP, I went down to my nearest Walmart to pick up a pencil as I didn't want to wait to order from Amazon. Walmart carries Wet n Wild eyeliner pencils in several colors that would match any beard. They are in a pencil form, not a gel, creamy and soft and will smudge perfectly as Barber Michael has demonstrated. They are only .74 cents and are about the same length as the Graff Etch pencil. Hope this was helpful. It worked great. Also wanted to add it is waterproof.

    Hi m8.
    When you shaping bottom of the neck, is it ok to stroke the razor in opposite direction to the growth? Something that confuses me, some say to always stroke same direction as the hair is growing but some (like yourself) stroke it from bottom of the neck towards the beard.
    Or it you hair just growing that direction? Or is it just me and some people have all the hair growing upwards?
    Also does it matter which way you stretch your skin?
    Sorry if its a daft questions, im only getting into it.
    Great video!

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  Před 3 lety

      Going with the direction of the hair is probably the most advisable technique on the first pass and then if you want to do a second pass then go in the opposite direction for a closer finish.
      Why is that? The skin under the chin around the neck is often quite thin and moves a lot which can be easily irritated if you shave in the opposite direction. It's not a great look having razor rash around the neck. That said I would try making one pass with the grain then lather up and go against the grain. It's trial and error. If you are left with a rash then stick to just the first pass next time.
      A foil shaver under the neck will get extremely close with no rash.
      I also tend to stretch the skin with my thumb and work the blade away from the thumb point.

    Great video. My beard must be 1/2 inch or less for my job. When I trim using my #4 guard (1/2 inch) going with the grain, its not even cutting the hairs. I pulled out a stray hair and it measured 1 inch long, but the #4 guard isn't cutting those. So to maintain a 1/2 inch beard, are they referring individual hair lengths, or how far from the face the beard protrudes as a whole?

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  Před 2 lety +1

      That's a tricky question, I guess only your employer can tell you. I'd have thought a half inch density is fine, infact would even be neater and more uniform than a half inch length.

      @@theoneminutebarber I am not Big Bo, but I think what he means is that most tutorials about beards recommend shaving a cheek line from the temple t the corner of the mouth. Yozr heek line goes to a point above the corner of the mouth.
      I am not in a position to tell you how to shave :-)..... that said, I think bringing that cheek line a bit lower at the bottom end at the mouth might look better on you.

      @@theoneminutebarber I saw these comments after the video, and was thinking the same. You like it higher but was thinking while watching the video, about lowering the line to the corner of the mouth. Although, I’m a fan of chin straps,or whatever they’re called, along the chin and jaw, with a mustache.
