I was reading this article about a japanes professor saying japans old people "Mainly Those that are occupying leadership positions in business and politics" should commit mass suicide to make room for Younger generation , But guess what He gained alot of fame , he gained thousands of followers on social media in Japan among resentful youth who believe their economic progress has been held back by the aging society.

    People usually recommend Death Note as a "beginner-friendly" series because it's a very good series, at the same time that it's more palatable for those who watch other things (movies, series). It's a middle term between extreme animeish stuff and the things you are already comfortable watching, so it's a good series to prepare someone into what they might expect from anime media. :)
    Have a great watch!

    • @DraKeNgg.
      @DraKeNgg. Pƙed rokem +31

      exactly, this show is very similar to other non-anime series, it has fantasy, but appart from that itÂŽs just a polices/mysteries/thriller show, i would say that itÂŽs comparable to Sherlock HolmesÂŽ novels, where itÂŽs all about "good guys" and "villans" trying to outsmart each other. That is what makes it such a great anime to start the journey.
      edit: also no black and white, greys everywhere, writing masterpiece.

      I think the idea of something like Death Note as "beginner friendly" is to shatter the idea of "anime = cartoons" early and hard by introducing something jarringly "mature" in contrast. From there, once you've established that the medium doesn't dictate the audience, you can then start exploring less extreme options. And I think it's really important to explore the less extreme options, lest you swing too hard toward the opposite side, re-establishing that the medium _does_ dictate the audience, except this time that "anime = rated R".
      I do think Luke might need a lighter palette cleanser after this, rather than the multitude of other dark seinen/dark shounen (dark gritty series aimed toward older men, or younger boys, respectively) series that seem to be flooding the top of his recommendation list. Dark seinen/dark shounen tends to be the most vocal genres, especially in the West, where it largely hooks young men in their teens to mid twenties on the thought process of "gratuitous violence = mature, and mature = not for kids, therefore gratuitous violence is how I prove I'm an adult man with adult man tastes". And it just so happens that people who are drawn to these sort of EXTREME ANIME are going to be the most vocal about their anime preferences being the best. Let's just say the type of people who watch quiet anime about "a single father learning to cook good nutritious meals for his young daughter" aren't going to be the ones aggressively shouting down your throat that you "NEED TO WATCH THIS RIGHT NOW!!!", even though Sweetness & Lightning is great, wholesome, and very well made.
      I think either a good "slice of life" or a good gut-buster comedy could be a good palette cleanser after his current lineup before jumping back into more gritty stuff. I'm not asking to hard-swerve into shoujo romance or magical girls (yet), nor to leave dark seinen/dark shounen entirely; just something neutral to re-center his expectations and broaden his horizons.

      @DraKeNgg. Pƙed rokem +3

      @@dragonbretheren i actually voted for re:zero, but you may be right that after these he may need a pallet cleanser, or he will end up thinking that every anime has a dark messed up story, something like kono-suba, but heÂŽs also watching other things on twitch so idk, i guess FMA will be ok, or re:zero or Overlord, as long as heÂŽs also watching lighter stuff at the same time.

    The Japanese dub is really good, but the English dub (in my opinion) is better. There is A LOT of dialog in this show and the Japanese subtitles are a little hard to keep up with and (in my opinion) a little too wordy. BUT everyone likes what they like, so my suggestion is to re-watch the first episode on your own but dubbed in English and choose which version you like better. (This is what I do for all my anime's, I watch the first episode in both languages and then decide which one I vibe with more, sometimes its the Japanese sometimes it's the English, everyone is different.) When you watch FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood do the same thing, first episode in Japanese and English because this is another anime that they dubbed really well. It seems easier beginners to want to know more about anime and like them if they take this democratic route than watch random anime because some of those can be for a specific public or it can requires more background. I’m personally glad you watch Japanese with subtitles. One of the nasty sides of anime is how the translators will change a lot of the subtle nuances of the dialog and story because they have to make the English lines fit into the 3.756 seconds of time they have to match the animated mouth movements. I’ve seen lots of series not even try to maintain the story integrity and just make up their own dialog that goes somewhere else entirely. Sometimes the best humor and drama gets lost entirely, and dubbed-only viewers never have any clue how they’ve been short changed. Also, you’ll learn a lot more about Japanese culture and social differences by watching the subs that often get replaced with American references by translators “in order to make it more accessible to North American viewers.” You’ll learn a lot about the shinegami mythologies during this series, which is a cultural mythological spirit in Japan that has no real counterpart in the west.

    Im Japanese so naturally we consume these kinds of anime at a younger age compared to the world.
    I remember when I was in elementary school, me and my friends used to write "death note" on the front page of a regular black note book, and pretended it was a actually death note. Writing names of the teachers and people we didn't like. I think we even drew pictures of them dying.
    That is what death note is to an average Japanese boy. Not a masterpiece or a beginners anime , just a good anime we simply grew up with.

Ryuk is the only shinigami that has 2 death notes this is because he killed another shinigami and took theirs, furthermore Ryuk only dropped one he kept the other so he make sure the one he dropped ended up in the hands of someone interesting. He was prepared to kill as many people as it took to get the one he dropped into the hands of someone who would use it. Lucky for him that happened to be the first person to pick it up.

While it would be nice to see you watch and react to both series at once, it might be best to finish Death Note then move on to FMA: B so both series can have your undivided attention. A lot of people don’t know that horror anime is a thing, but it absolutely is! I don’t know that I would necessarily class this as one - this and like, Psycho Pass are definitely *dark* but they’re more crime thrillers - but if you ever really want a horror, I recommend something like Higurashi When They Cry. You should check out the opening themes from both the original series and revival!
