Try imagining two super geniuses on opposite ends of the moral spectrum playing a game of chess to see who lives or dies. It’s not actually about chess but should give you a ballpark idea.

  • @YukiFubuki.
    @YukiFubuki. Před 2 lety +258

    When reacting to anime openings I think it’s best to do it with the actual opening visual used for the broadcast too since they’re typically NOT produced individually and independent of the other but rather alongside one another and can give more insight to each other
    Like for example you said death note first opening sounds like a positive, happy and jumpy song but if you saw the visual accompanying it you wouldn’t be saying that since the actual visuals is rather gothic and monochrome with colors pallet being muted and diluted and the overall imagery is dark and religious putting the song in a different light, the song sounding positive isn’t wrong since it’s about a “messiah” trying to usher in a new world order to paradise through a revolution against the current world encroached in darkness essentially making it a song about hope but with the visual being very much the opposite makes the tone of the song sound more delusional or pretentious which is rather fitting considering the protagonist is quickly revealed to have a god-complex
    Producing an anime adaption is a project that involves multiple industries in Japan from music labels to their music artist, the source material, it’s creator and the the company that publish the work, the animation studio can sometimes bring in their own flavor to a series and even other freelance personnels can be brought in to expand or bring to the forefront the less pronounced aspect of a work so trimming down even the opening to onyl the song for a reacting is almost like a disservice

    • @RealElevenTimes

      @ericjoel5363 Před 2 lety +7

      @@ItsLynch1 no one has ever even mentioned that the song would change with damn visuals. You’re bringing in a point not belonging to the conversation. The visuals would help with a more accurate representation of what the show is about and that’s what the op comment has stated to the reactors comment on wanting more context. I see no reason for your arguments whatsoever

  • @Brienna82
    @Brienna82 Před 2 lety +54

    Regarding the songs, the 1st and 3rd song is the OP and ED for the 1st part of the series, while the 2nd and 4th is used as OP and ED for the second part, so they make more sense together in that sense.
    And yes, typicly only about 1:30 mins of each song are used with the anime ^^

    This is probably THE best Anime to get started with.
    It's Art-style is very "realistic", it plays in our normal everyday Life with just a touch of Supernatural.
    Basically it's like a Dr. Moriarty vs. Sherlock Holmes kind of Story with "divine interventions" if you so will.
    Very easy to follow and enjoy if one is new to the Anime-Genre^^

    • @MortimerFolchert
      @MortimerFolchert Před 2 lety +13

      @Shadow Reacts I would not recommend AoT ever as a first... too unrealistic, confusing & dark for most most newbies to the Genre. Death Note is like I said more of a Sherlock Holmes or CSI type of Show, from the criminal perspective. Something most casuals can somewhat relate to.
      If they're not a Thriller/Mystery-Fan I'd suggest "Your Name" or "Your lie in April".
      Not a Splatter-Dystopia with highly unplausable Physics.
      AoT is pretty cool, but it has driven away a lot of people due to it's brutality.
      (the "Mom-Scene" for example)
      AoT is a solid choice, once you have seen some Anime and get a hang on reading subs while watching. Still Top 10 though.

    • @MortimerFolchert

    The thing with anime is that the openings are usually super high-energy in one way or another while the endings are typically chill or somber. To get you excited when you're about to watch it and then a little sad right when the episode ends, I suppose. Death Note has some laughs, but it's very much a homicide-heavy cat-and-mouse game between a morally-ambiguous detective and a power-tripping criminal who grows more and more insane as the story goes - so we get angry, aggressive openings and sad (at least lyrically) endings.

    I still remember being in the car with my friend, a metal head, and trying to convince him to try out this Japanese band I was really into. MAXIMUM THE HORMONE, the band who did the 2nd OP and ED to Death Note. He was like "Nah, they can't get their voices deep enough." Then I played him What's Up People (the OP) and he was like "I stand corrected" 😂

    A happy anime?! Death Note?! 🤣🤣🤣 In my opinion, Death Note is one of the darkest animes there are and I love it! It was actually the first serious anime I ever watched! Up until then, I just watched what they put on kids' channels (eg. Sailor Moon, Doraemon, Captain Tsubasa, Beyblade, Mermaid Melody, etc)...and, I've of course watched darker animes since then but this one holds a special place in my heart. It's a classic and it has some of the best OSTs in Anime. Btw the first and third songs are the 1st OP and ED (both by the same band) and the second and fourth songs are the 2nd OP and ED (and both by the same band too😄). I remember when they changed the OP and ED! At the time, everyone was so shocked because it was a completely different sound to the previous ones! I remember that I had the 2nd ED as my ringtone 😁And it makes sense that they remind you of 2000s metal, considering that this anime came out in 2006😆and fyi, for shows, they just show a snippet of the songs...1 to 1:30 minutes max (you can usually find this version if you type the name of the anime op/ed TV size. Also the last song Coda plays in the last minutes of the last episode of Death Note.
    And, in my opinion, while the cello is a beautiful instrument and sounds beautiful, the instrument I feel like pulls the most emotion is the violin. I simply love it!
    I would love it if you reacted to Death Note but I understand if you want to watch it on your own. I also have various suggestions for new animes for you to listen to the songs and to react to the show...but I'll just say one now and leave the rest for another day 😉 It's another classic anime that came out in the same year as Death Note actually: Code Geass. It's one of my favourite animes of all time😁

      The original Sailor Moon has some pretty dark scenes and episodes too. Like MCs beeing tortured and killed afterwards. But those never were released into the west.

    • @palexa188
      @palexa188 Před 2 lety

      I know! Imagine my surprise when I found that out! 🤯 I always find it weird when they cut or change some scenes from anime or tv shows etc to make them less graphic, but then you have cartoons like Ren and Stimpy, Courage The Cowardly Dog and The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy...I love the last two...but they are nightmare inducing 🤣
      As for anime, there are some very dark ones! I once saw one (don't remember the name and I was only able to stomach the 1st episode at that time 😓) where the protagonist tries to kill himself, fails, then makes a sort of suicide pact with a prostitute and, when she dies and he survives and is in the hospital, he starts smiling evilly or laughing maniacally (I don't remember which of the two) - to summarise. That was perhaps the darkest anime I ever watched and I couldn't even watch more than one episode 😅 though I might try to find it again and give it another shot...maybe (probably not though 😖 just thinking about it makes me a bit sick...)

    30:24 Nightmare does Arc 1 (OP1 & ED1), Maximum the Hormone does Arc 2. And Anime actually works like that. The faster/heavier/... song is usually the OP (at least for shows that fit the "style" of the song) to get you in the right (idk the word). Also the OP usually plays for ~1:30min at the beginning of each episode, besides the first. There it often plays instead of the ED.

    Fun fact or at least one thing that I love about anime and their music....many of the voice actors in animes are actual singers. And, on occasion, their band or their songs are used in the openings or endings. There are also a few (what I like to call) "anime bands" that formed from the voice actors singing together and providing music for that show. I think appreciating the music as well as the anime go hand in hand and I love that. Enjoy the ride and good luck with the journey.

    These are the full, unedited songs that the show derives from. The openings themselves typically last about 1:30 min, so if the video seems really long, it's probably the full songs. If you like trying to guess what the show is about, I'd recommend reacting to the short versions, then maybe react to the full song after? The visuals are pretty much half of the openings. If you stream or on your own time, definitely take a look at the TV openings for the shows you've done since Attack on Titan again, since you reacted to the full songs. That being said, I'd check out the Bleach or Re:Zero openings (+endings if you go for RZ); they are pretty good too~
