Another great lesson. Clear audio and keyboard pics so we can see the shapes you're playing. No PDF notes needed, just follow along is all the fun I need. Got challenging at the end, but if I get over halfway, that feels like success to me! Thanks Peter!

I've loved jazz for over 60 years as a listener-who-understood-nothing. (and as a wannabe musician) I never came across such a clear tutorial before. Thank you very much.

This is the PERFECT lesson for ME at this time in my development. Practical Tools, useful and fun. For My own toolbox, taught at a normal pace. I enjoyed not having to wait for the talented teacher to over explain every finger until the video becomes too painful to endure. (Sorry ). But you’re in a natural groovy pace that I found in sync with my brain. It made it more fun to play follow the leader using the most basic and important notes. Singing the lines making sure you can sing before you play..Pure gold right there. Lots of gems in this video. I came for the piano lesson, piano lesson, which was great, and as a guitarist, singer, songwriter etc these ideas transfer like it was meant to be. Easy and fun and useful. Thank you, now exuse me please, I’m gonna play along with this video again 35x in a row. See ya on the other side 👍

As player for 45 years who learned this sound from some old Chicago blues cats I think of this a little differently and it broadens the use away from a set 5 note pentatonic.
The “major blue note” is the minor third, a passing tone used in conjunction with the major third. Added to a major pentatonic created the major blues scale. Key is that it is passing tone up to major third or down from major third.
The “minor blue note” is what most refer to as the “blue note”, flat 5. added to a minor pentatonic creates the minor blues scale. But key is that it is passing tone up to 5th or down to 4th.
These two notes played over a Dom7 will give either a major or minor bluesy feel. In this lesson what are two “pentatonic” scales can also be seen as Major 6 arpeggio and a Dominant 7 arpeggio with the added “major blue note” passing tone. Again this is the minor 3rd -> major 3rd.
Whatever else is played, that passing sounded is one of the key sounds to the blues.
Only stipulation is this is all for playing over dominant 7. If playing over Minor 7 chord you avoid the major 3rd of course.

I noticed something - I feel like your teaching style moves fast enough that a beginner might have a hard time keeping up with you (without the PDF, at least) - but you're teaching relatively rudimentary concepts (like a pentatonic scale variation), that someone, if they were at a musical level to be able to follow along at the pace you teach, would likely already know about in some capacity. I think it's useful for someone like me who feels as though they have a good grasp on ear, theory, and playing but wishes to change their vocabulary - but I feel like it will be relatively inaccessible to people who take a little bit longer to hear things out or be able to "assume" some of the things us musicians typically learn to just "know." Am I explaining this well? Not sure. Something I noticed... This goes for some of the podcast episodes too. I don't want you to spoonfeed us though - maybe my demographic of musical level is the one you're looking to reach. Thanks - regardless, all of Open Studio's videos have been more than inspiring and helpful in my journey!

Actually for me it is very good because I can follow pretty easily since I am a musician, but not very familiar with jazz, so I'm very thankful he is not explaining and waiting for every single detail a beginner might need, this can be unbearable over a long time

I agree. Some teachers show how good they are, others help students.
He shows how well he's understood this or that, as if taking an exam and demonstrating how well he's mastered the concepts and techniques. It's good for self-esteem, but not very useful for students.
