Part 3 of the Reverend Horton Heat song “Psychobilly Freakout” as taught by Jim Heath aka Reverend Horton Heat. This video puts together the whole opening riff that started with parts 1 and 2.
Thanks Jim, it took some time for me get proficient enough to put it all together here in part 3. You and a couple of other guys helped me start to learn guitar and stick with it. Thank you.
I know it's been a while but I'd really love to see the rest. I was pretty surprised to see this on here, from the man himself! Your playing is even more intricate than I realized, and no other lesson or tab I've seen does the song justice. I'm going to push myself to learn this song no matter what though, even if I have to play it super slow. Gotta do something with the free time from all this virus bullshit. Thanks Rev!
You opened something now. Please teach the whole song. On behalf of all OCD fans out there who have to play it just like the artist we’d love the whole thing
Straight from the Rev's prayer closet!! Hell yeah! Thanks for sharing with us the hard part and thanks for sharing about the old red analog boss delay, I think with the 3005 chip, for the sounds in the mid section. "Eat steak" solo would have some good tips. Hell I'd even start paying for tutorials by you. Thanks again Jim!
Been listening to a lot of Loco Gringos lately. Imo and listening to the Deep Ellum records of the time, you and Pepe are about the best artists of to come out of that scene then
Keep going, Jim! One of your signature moves I would like to learn more about is the circular motion you do later in the song (as you play and slide up the neck). You can move on a little quicker also. I don't think many novice players are starting out w this song as their first. Lol. Hybrid style players get the freedom that comes along w the notes. No need to go over every bit. :)
Love seeing this channel grow!! Excellent channel,... everybody wants the guitar knowledge and will watch these videos over and over and over.... you will do well with this project!
Thanks, Jim! Feels like I got a chance to get a little lesson from you between sets. I like that you teach it just the way folks teach you something when they really take their time. You don’t need a tab because you’re building it up from memory. First ridiculously slow...then faster and faster...until you start to get how all the parts fit together. Like everyone else here for Part III - the hardcore guitar nuts, obviously - Parts IV and V would be sweet. But really what’s important is that you pass along those fundamentals like pinching and pull-offs and the constant alternating bass - and explain why they’re working in these riffs and who you stole em from. Stay psycho! And thanks again.
Jim, these are great! Please go on and show us the rest of this song. It's really cool to see it chopped up with all of the subtle nuances of your playing. I'm coming close to getting the first part down. But really, it's just great to see you do these videos in general. Here's something I'd also like to see if you ever get around to it...I'd like to see/hear how you achieve all the sonic touches in your playing (feedback, pedals, more hammering/pulling tricks). I'll take whatever you throw at me and thank you from the bottom of my heart for making guitar music and pushing the standard so high.
These are great, Rev, thanks for sharing. Would love to see more of this or other songs. Already have tickets for your return to St. Louis later this summer.
DANG!!!! my favorite guitar hero has a channel!!!! ok Jim stop being such a tease. Just kiddin, these 3 vids are a blessing and a amazing personal angle into your picking technique. thanks for being so kind. I look forward to see more of you on this channel. I saw yall play in Houston back in the early 90s and have been in in love with the Gretsch sound ever since, I play a 2005 solid black Electromatic Gretsch as my main guitar, some day hope to get an upgrade. but fine for now. Thanks Jim. BTW when is Jimbo startin a channel.

Thanks Jim! I've wanted to learn this since I first bought Smoke Em if You Got Em back in high school!
You are my fucking guitar hero!

It's just that easy!
I would compare Jim with Jimi Hendrix when it comes to playing live. They both never will play a song exactly the same way twice.
The Devil is Chasing Me!!!!!! Please !!!
