We try so hard to bring informative content, but it's hard to do that "in a hurry" LOL ;) We take, very seriously, the opportunity we have to work with these manufacturers, and my poor wife gets dragged into so much hard work to make all this happen. I went by the book on the initial setup and maidened it and found your 100% correct on the elevator! It flew just as you said, LONG TAKE off and Hot landing. Also had alot of trim to keep it flying level. Appreciate your recommends!

      Thanks Rob! Glad you found my thoughts helpful. With this plane, it's actually nice to get the battery way back to help with some elevator authority, if you CAN'T make the elevator mod, like I suggested. It's a fun, fast plane, but still quite easy to fly for an EDF jet.

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Definitely doing the elevator mod, I may just go one hole over first and test it, I did setup reverse thrust on this one with the pilot fatigue per your video, makes total sense to me. Thanks again, looking forward to my 2nd trip to the field with it after making these adjustments! I'm sure it will go great! :)

    I just want to emphasize fixing the elevator. I tried flying my new Habu SS with a 4S 14.8v 4000 mAs and even with full up trim it was still diving. Followed battery placement recommendation as per the manual but it was a bad day of flying. I recommend following what is said in these videos, move the battery a little more aft and fix the elevator. Thanks for posting your vids! Live an learn.

    Brian, I just want to thank you for your fantastic videos. You cover all the pros and cons on these planes and give really relevant recommendations. I had ordered a Viper as my first EDF based on the recommendation of another channel and it was too much for me as a first EDF. I hope to be flying that soon but for right now, the Habu SS sounds like a better starting point so I just ordered one with your link. Keep up the great work!

    Nice review man . This jet it really fun to fly . I had the chance to fly one two weeks ago at HHEAFI . When i flew it , it had a smart 3200 50c , gear off and was super fast . super stable with plenty of snap too . This will be my new go to jet over my viper . One key point to about the landing gear for new jet pilots , use the STS tires and wheels are larger for softer landings . Keep up the great work B !

    Thx Brian,
    Enjoy your review flts, however as an Intermediate prop Flyer, this time I paid particular attention to your build & radio programming on the Habu. I’d like to “smoothly” transition into edf’s, so your recommendations for elevator trim & reverse thrust instructions were welcomed. I wasn’t successful in programming “pilot fatigue” on my DX7 (though possibly my error & may yet try again).Still, reverse may at least keep me on the blacktop and/or out of the weeds w/such long runout. Also appreciate the tip for slight pitch up attitude. I ended up tweaking both clevis to get any up deflection on my elevators, n anticipate fabricating a new battery tray allowing for 4 & 6cell placement conducive to CG (those orig straps certainly not placed correctly). Great tips!

      Hi Brian & Megan...please forgive me with this joke as I thought of it every time I saw the bananas on the stand when you were talking about Lipo Batteries... Here it is. A bus conductor in London was rather a nasty character, one day he was on his double decker london bus & being full, a little old lady tried to board the bus & he said there was no room so he kicked her off....she fell to the ground & was run over by a car. Because of this act, he was sentenced to the electric chair. On the day of his demise, they strapped him in the chair & asked if there was any last request. He asked for two bananas. The guard unstrapped his hands & the condemned man then peeled the bananas & crossed them. The Governor thought it strange but then closed the circuit. Nothing happened so they tried again....all the voltage was indeed there. Each time they tried, the prisoner crossed the bananas. The Queen found our that he had survived each time & being that this had never happened before, gave the prisoner a Royal pardon. He was told by the prison governor that he was a free man....but before being released, they asked him was it because of the two bananas that the voltage did not harm him???
      The Prisoner replies..."no, I guess i am just a bad conductor"
      I really do not know why this story came to mind...I can only put it down to the hanging bananas & discussion on Lipo's.
      Summer flying here, must be getting cooler there.
      Keep safe & well family!!

    Question: my flying has a short and somewhat bumpy and weedy asphalt runway. I've been flying the Turbo Timber and UMX A-10. Would this or the the Viper 70 be a better bet? The bigger Viper with its thrust reverse sounds good but just being big probably makes it a lot harder for a first big EDF? Or would setting up and practicing reverse thrust on my TT Evolution help prepare for reverse thrust on the EDF? Whenever I try the Eagle or Tomcat on Real Flight I end up missing the rudder a lot both for fun maneuvers and lining up my approach. I really like the looks of the Viper but I don't know about landing distance.

  • @stealthwarrior4870
    @stealthwarrior4870 Před 2 lety +1

    Hey Brian, I'm perplexed.
    I pur'd HH's Habu SS and w/the manual's recommended CG, my plane balances w/a Spektrum Smart 4S-3200mAh, 50C placed far forward in the battery compartment (almost as far as possible), rather than the more rearward location you show(?).
    You also suggest that you think the CG points should actually be more forward on the wings than recommended, but wouldn't that make having the battery positioned where you have it even more tail heavy?
    Also just wondering -- I tried a Spektrum smart 6S-5000mAh, 50C, which does need to be as far rearward as possible for CG, but I also had to trim slight foam away on the sides to make it fit at all (and is still tight, height-wise). Wondering how there could be that much variation on foams from mfrs molds or what I'm missing(?). Consider myself an Intermediate rc pilot, but want to transition to jets. Making plane ready while snow is still on the ground! Thx for all your good tips!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety +1

      Tail heavy will make the plane roll on the pitch access easier (Something ABSOLUTELY necessary on this plane, btw), and also higher AOA on landings to help slow her down.
      Do it per the manual, and see how she flies. Just do yourself a favor, and give about 1/4 mile for climb out, or you'll be picking up foam for hours.
      As for what we didn't do, I can't speak to that. I can't even remember what battery we used, so don't want to speak out of turn.
      Snow - make some LONG skis, if you want to fly on TOP of the snow, or just pull the landing gear and belly land her. She'll need cleaned out after each landing....but you can do it.
      Good luck Steath Warrior!

    Hey Brian, Can the Habu SS canopy / hatch fit properly on the Habu STS ? After much research, and agonizing, I decided the Habu STS was the best choice for me, and I found one at the local Hobby Shop that had the bonus goodies from the first release. Anyway, I have a few 4S batteries for my cargo plane that won't quite fit in the STS with its original canopy, I like sharing batteries as much a possible between my various planes. I can see in the HH photos that the SS canopy is not as deep into the battery compartment. Just wondering if you could try swapping the canopies / battery hatches on your Habus and let me know if they are interchangable? Thanks again for all the videos, fun and very informative.

    Brian, I watched your video a second time, the radio set up segment, and I have a question. Isn’t setting up SAFE select using the forward programming just taking the long way to the same results as if binding using the bind plug or button? I am relatively new to this hobby, but I have bond up 4 planes on my NX 8 with Safe just fine. I don’t understand the advantages of forward programming, if there is any. Thank you

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety

      BNF's are all a bit different. Some are bound in SAFE Select, then both sticks down and out, and SAFE Select switch is assigned...but now-a-days, you have to do it with forward programming for some features.
      Forward Programming is AMAZING when you get into PNF planes.

    I usually just do overnight charging on my 2A balance lipo chargers. i got a bunch of them for cheap awhile back and they do 2S or 3S and you just plug it in.
    But i also have an Imax B6AC Lipo Battery Balance Charger for when I want to do a quick 5A charge even for a 6S battery. It's a great charger for any battery basically for like $30 and even on Amazon. I think is 60W-80W whatever thats considered. It has a DC input as welll, so I can also charge my smaller 3s 1300/2200 packs in the car with the Cig Lighter DC plug port while im driving there or at the field already. Thats easily able to be able "fast" charge at at its max charge rate for those size batteries.
    I have a 4-way Hitec 6A Balance charger for do the drone charging mostly to get 4 batteries ready in 20-30 mins at one time and i can bring a field pack and DC charge with that also for the drones or the planes. Love that thing after getting used to having it lol.

    Do you think I should get this version of the habu or the STS version for my first EDF?
    I have MANY high wing bush planes (carbon Z cub, turbo timber, maule M7 to name a few) and I consider myself to be quite skilled with them and I love to fly them. But when it comes to more advanced stuff (like my ultimate 3D) I get quite nervous and often mess up. I haven't wrecked yet but I have almost MANY times with the ultimate. It being windy all the time where I live doesn't help the ultimate either.
    I think I could probably fly the STS with my eyes closed but if the SS was within my capabilities, I would buy it instead.
    What do you think? Should I stick with the trainer until I am more confident with it? Then later down the line buy the SS? Or skip the STS and get the SS? I am mainly concerned about flight characteristics and not speed. I will fly 4s if too fast or just lower my throttle.
    I fly in rough grass too so if I get the SS, should I buy some STS landing gear? (I know it's ugly but I can't see it while it's flying anyways so I'd rather have the functionality over the looks).

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety +1

      Get the SS - less likely that you'll outgrow it soon. The hardest part of fling this plane is that it takes some room to land...and this will give you REVERSE THRUST...thus you can shorten the rollout.
      4S on the way to 6S give you more bang for your buck - good call on the SS vs the STS (you might be bored right away)

    Hello all, I just got a Hubu SS 70 from a friend and when I flew it the first time I ran into a issue that almost crashed me. When I gave the plane trottle the rudder would basically flutter rapidly. I checked connections and made sure the wires weren't pinched. This is strange and hoping someone might know what is causing this. I think it might be a bad receiver. It did have a hard time binding at first, had to try several times. I don't have any extra receivers laying around or I would just switch it out. I'm using a 6S 5000 50C battery. Thanks.

      I wonder if they put the rudder control linkage too far in and the plane is creating a self induced osculation due to AS3X (stabilization) over-correcting.... here's how you can tell...does the tail stop wiggling when you throttle back? If so, you need to land, and then put the rudder linkage into the NEXT hole OUT, then re-test, but I suspect that will fix your issue.

    • @theELiTEboarder
      @theELiTEboarder Před 2 lety +1

      C rating is the discharge rate of the battery. A higher c rating gives more “punch” as it can discharge faster. It’s hard on batteries if the c rating is not up to par with the current draw of the motor.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC

      Faster discharge rate, for more demanding power systems. Higher value means more expensive, but better at surviving a more powerful flying plane...less likely to puff...less likely to SAG when pulling high loads.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 4 měsíci +1

      If you're brand new to the hobby, I'd say you're better to get the Habu 50mm, and 3S pack - WAY less cash up front.. Get the NX10 if you THINK you'll be hooked, OR go with the NX7e if there's a question in your mind.
      The reason I say is that the 4S pack, while not too much more money, is not gonna be your holdup, it's gonna be the price of the Tx. I don't want to tell someone who's NOT yet addicted to get that much tied up in a Tx.
      NX10 is gonna be a big move for you, but will keep you in WHAT YOU WANT, as you advance. If you remove the most "bottlenecks" and then can say "yes" to as many planes as you want, you'll progress quicker, and more financially efficient.
      Just my 2 cents - The 50mm Habu is almost the EXACT experience of the 70mm SS - I DO agree, stick with SS 70mm or 50mm rather than the 70mm STS - Trainer, since the STS is gonna get you into more stuff you'll soon enough NOT need.
      bprc.me/Tx
      bprc.me/2200mAh_Lipo
      bprc.me/Habu
      P.S. If you really want the BIGGER experience, with more "upward mobility" you COULD get the 70mm SS - but it's just more cash tied up, and the 6S jump, while it may be pretty cool, is not in the plane I would put you in. The Habu is an EXCELLENT trainer EDF, but it's REALLY EASY to fly. I want you to "GET" EDF's, and the idiosyncrasies of flying and landing them, BEFORE you get into the Viper 70mm, for example, or the F-16 70mm...one of the more advanced, but still "Easier" EDF Jets that newer pilots gravitate too.
      More to follow, and way too much in one comment. ;) Keep watching, and asking. We'll try hard to keep up!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před rokem +1

      I can't, but here's what you can do.
      1) Find MONITOR MODE (Scroll once to the right) so you can see what channels do what.
      2) Figure out which side is PORT 1 on the Rx (should be PROGRAM, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc....)
      3) Now you'll know what goes where, but you'll have to play with the wires, to make sure you get them in the right spot. Use the throttle cut, so you don't get hurt, or damage your plane by flying across the house. then just guess and check - it's not too many cables, so you'll be super surprised how quick it will be.
      How did all your cables come to be unplugged anyway?
      Plug them in where they go, and you'll be set!
      The manual might be helpful in this situation too, but I can't send it here, so follow our link to the plane - bprc.me/Habu - then choose the YELLOW ONE - the Habu SS (Super Sport) and scroll to the Manuals & Support just below the Product Details.

Also one of the biggest problems I have when trying to follow you is I get the checkerboard on the 0 1 2 portion, and then you cant enter any settings for that switch position, they are all ___ ___ ___

      Click the link, and then just pause your video right when it starts, and this is the PILOT FATIGUE SETTING. It's only one "MIX", and then you're done. This assumes you've already got REVERSING TURNED ON, all you're doing is making a SWITCH TO THROTTLE assignment.

    Think you can do a video on how to set up the ailerons as flaps with this jet?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Flapperons are pretty easy to setup. If you want to see how to do it, just follow along on the Slow Ultra Stick, we just did it the other week. Should be a very similar setup, but keep in mind, thrust reverse is really what you want on the Habu SS ;)

    For the price, they should add a set of simple retracts. It doesn’t need a fancy suspension set, spring wire would be fine.

      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety +1

      I tend to agree. And it would look so much better too!

    Have you done a "Spoileron" serup for Habu ss..??

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety

      I haven't. You can do it, BUT you would need to "Factory Rest" the Rx in order to do it, and possibly update firmware to allow for this feature. Once done, you can then set it up however you want, and AS3X and SAFE WILL work ;)

    Brian I like how you talk 10 mins about comparing this plane to others in the fleet. It really is ho HH customers operate. We have a budget which we can flex a bit and we consider similar jets price wise, performance wise, size wise etc. One you didn't touch on is the eflite viper 70mm. Which is the better? (ignoring the retracts). Cheers

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety +1

      Good point. The 70mm Viper is a GREAT alternative....flaps and retracts are the main difference, but I must say, that plane will not be flying from grass...unless it's on the 18th green ;)

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety +1

      I'm glad you enjoy the comparison. We try not to make this part of our videos too long, but I'm the one talking, so I fail epicly at brevity.

    Do you have a video where you explain thrust reverse? I got lost when you were going back and forth 😆

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety +1

      Thrust reverse is new to everyone, so we're still figuring it out ourselves. I've setup Thrust reverse on several planes.
      This plane,
      Carbon Z Cub SS 2.1m
      Carbon Z Cessna 150T 2.1m
      Draco 2.0m
      Turbo Timber Evo 1.5m
      Hangar 9 P-47D
      Hangar 9 Ultra Stick
      Viper 90mm
      There will be more too, but I can't think of them off the top of my head. Check out these playlists and you can see if something connects better for you.

      Thank you for what you do! I didn’t know they were on the other videos. I usually just watch you fly unless I buy the plane then I watch the whole set up. Thanks again

    Do you think its the better choice to take the habu over the viper 70mm it Costs the same and the viper Has Flaps and Retracts and the gear is like the same. WHAT do you think Would be better for 1. Jet

      Dont get the viper as first EDF. The f-16 is best if you have a nice runway. It will not stall.

    Hi Brian, I sent my Christmas list to my son , a turbo timber evolution. The ways things are going now should I go out and buy the planes I want for next year now?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Před 2 lety

      LOL - Not NEXT year, but for now, get what you want when you think you want it, and if it's in stock, get them ordered ASAP. There are some GREAT things coming, but Christmas is gonna be tough for inventory and stock levels on EVERYTHING.
