    My main problem with the movie is the fact that you have a storyline dealing with gorr the god butcher, thor wanting to figure out who he is, and Jane dealing with cancer....and you wanna make it a comedy😒

      comedy and tragedy are not that far from each other on the emotional scale. comedy is typically over the top tragedy. that’s why self depreciation is so big in comedy scene. people who think it has to be one or the other are glued to their biases and struggle to give into stories because they’re criticizing the story before they even allow the story to begin to be told. most people don’t walk into movie theatres without expectations on sequels / trilogies etc, they already have too many high hopes so they end up ruining the movie themselves. people say they don’t have bias for movies but that’s often just a white lie they tell themselves. the problem isn’t marvel, the problem is people already consume too much media and have twisted ideas of what’s standard

    The point David brings up around 46:34 is the most glaring thing most people don't notice when it comes to "corporate diversity". You can make all the Bridgertons you want, cast Jodie Turner-Smith as Anne Boleyn if you want, but at the end of the day, casting People of Color in these type of stories with these types of settings doesn't make the story less White. They're still very Eurocentric stories and settings that it don't don't matter how many Brown or Black faces you have on screen, it's still a very "White" story you are telling, with Eurocentric sensibilities. It's offering something we already have. Sure, it definitely offers bigger opportunities for non-White actors to be leading roles but shallow diversity only in front of the camera doesn't offer actual diverse storytelling. It doesn't add anything new, it only rebrands a century old problem.

    Magneto and Professor Xavier were based on Malcolm X and Martin Luther King. I understand where some of the gripe comes from - personally it feels like some of these changes are so forced and are pandering to an audience rather than doing it because they genuinely feel that it's right and/or have something to actually say about the issue. But there's something important being said at the center of "wokeness" that should affect films and media, in general
    EDIT: 56:28 touches on a point that I don't think I hear enough in conversations about representation (or at least on social media) - why do we have to change the stories or characters and jam our identities into that? The story itself was the problem, so write a new story and make new characters

    People are complaining about the TLotR Amazon series is because they are ruining the Lore and making stuff up, the casting is a problem because Tolkien created his world not just being inspired by his time in war or nordic myths, it's because England lost a lot of it's own folklore due to Christian occupation and he intended to create a new one in spirit.
    What's sad is if they wanted to add ethnic characters, there already are 2 humsn examples in Middle Earth, one inspired by Ethiopia the other Asia, so adding black Dwaves and Elves are unnecessary.

  • @pika8752
    @pika8752 Před rokem +2

    The reason Jane got powers was because when Odin enchanted Mjolnir in the first Thor movie, he specifically stated that those he deemed worthy would be granted the powers of Thor. This is sort of implying the godly power is a separate phenomenon not specific to the Thor character, and later in ragnarok odin reminds him that mjolnir was never the source of his power, it was simply a way to channel it. Which he later taps deeper into against his sister in the final fight. Back to to the topic, was Jane worthy? That could be a toss up because yes her character chose to sacrifice herself to help rescue the kids/stop the enemy, or you could infer that Thor’s pillow talk to mjolnir about protecting Jane was an enchantment of his own without realizing it. Very much like how he was able to enchant the random weapons the children used in the last fight to momentarily grant them his power too. I personally liked the movie despite its very fast paced timing and would also love to watch an extended version some day, but I want to point out that the MCU shouldn’t have to spoon feed every detail to their audience, if you want to understand every aspect you need to for the very the least watch all their content. What makes the MCU great is bringing to life the comics for the hardcore fans while being entertaining enough to keep people who don’t know a thing about the franchise around

  • @thedevilsfavoriteangel

    23:20 When they show us the montage of Thor and Jane, there was a scene where Jane was like cooking I think and Thor had his hammer mjolnir beside and he said to the hammer, "Protect her" causing it to glow which then led to her wielding it and I honestly think it's a good explanation.

From smelling your hair burn on the hair curler, to waking up to mom's pho, or your dad not saying i love you, but peeling fruits for you to eat. Who else is going to write it, express it, or direct it better than someone who has experienced that before?

    Thor Love and Thunder definitely needs a 3-4hr version of the movie, so many things felt missing!

  • @thevotu
    @thevotu Před rokem +1

    My problem with Love and Thunder was that they used Gorr the God Butcher/All-Black(Necrosword) as the antagonists and kind off one-offed him. He plays a huge role and is a lead up to the Knull storyline in the marvel comic book series. Like check the marvel wiki for the tldr for what Gorr/All-Black does in the comic's. Like this movie would've been great as a series! even better if they go dark as the gorr comic story and balance it out with the jokes, but the age rating would definitely change haha

    • @SeeHang
      @SeeHang Před rokem

      you know they cut a lot of scenes from the movie that would have likely made the movie much much longer, more gorr more jane scenes… corporate probably limited the length of the movie, so likely what we got was a dumbed down version

    Thank you, David. Although, I liked Ragnarok I didn’t love it like everyone else. It was a hard tone shift from the first 2 movies. It was funny but I thought there were a bit too many jokes shoved into it. This was my first exposure to Taika Waititi. After seeing a couple of his other movies, I came into Love and Thunder having a general idea of what to expect. It wasn’t better than Ragnarok but I think I enjoyed it better than Doctor Strange 2.
    P.S. I don’t care if Korg is gay because he’s made up, but there’s a bit of inconsistency for his origin. In Love and Thunder, he said he has 2 dads. In Ragnarok, he said he had a mom. But whatever, it’s all made up anyways haha.

    What should have happened at the end was for Jane and Thor to enter the chamber with Gor to find out that gor had already made his wish for his daughter instead of death of all gods. Everyone assumed that death was all he wanted but instead he teaches Thor that love was all that mattered. Then gor dies and leaves Thor conflicted but ultimately takes care of his daughter as Jane dies.

    @laquoya9816 Před rokem

    I align with Ed; i did laugh a lot. And enjoyed it, however my issue with L&T that I didn't have with Ragnarok is that I feel there were pieces of plot that was missing/hinted at in different movies/shows. In Ragnarok, I didn't feel like there were plot holes and the things that happened made sense.
    In this new movie, I disliked that they have the GOTG characters in it and made it seem like they were going to meet back up after they checked the different worlds. It didn't make sense to me how Christian Bales character had the sword, when at the end of Eternals, Kit Harrington's character had it. Also at the end of enternals, they introduced Harry Styles character...and he's not hinted at.
    Then Thor's character development. Hes been dealing with immense trauma and he has not worked through it at all. He spends the whole movie doing this weird rambling bits and pushing things aside, Jane dies, and then suddenly hes mentally stable enough to take care of a child?
    It just didn't make any sense to me.

    • @aldan4308
      @aldan4308 Před rokem +1

      Kit Harrington's sword and hopefully storyline are pretty cool in the comics, but honestly the Necrosword is definitely one of the most badass weapons with a crazy awesome storyline (check out the King in Black storyline) which i thought they would do a good setup in this movie for and i was so excited but they honestly just treated the weapons as mcguffins in this movie and kinda ruined any hope to see a Knull storyline for the future, which would have been even bigger than the Thanos arc of the first movies IMO

    In regards to the Lord of the Rings casting controversy, I think it's more about sprinkling diversity into sections of an already established lore that's insanely detailed, which also can be seen as disrespectful to the source material that millions have grown up loving. It's already established in Lord of the Rings that there are black humans, and even other races of humans as well in far off lands, but Tolkien didn't go too far into their cultures since he wasn't informed enough in writing about it. So if the creators actually cared, they could have used these cultural backgrounds on different parts of Middle Earth and tell a story that's never been told before while also showing more representation. They could have actually put in the work. Instead of twisting the history of this story, doing whatever they want with it, and then slapping diversity in there just to fuel a corporate agenda. It looks disingenuous and frankly just makes people more cynical moving forward.

    So the guy who thinks god dont care about people... kidnaps people cause he know a god cares about them? Didnt he prove his own motivation is flawed?

    But.. I loved the lightyear movie 🥲 however “wokeness people” definitely needs to understand that a lot of creators in films or comics that don’t need woke lore to progress a story. Just like there’s creators that will have some woke lore that would 100% help support a story. We can’t push personal feelings onto other peoples art work.
