In the beginning Elias sets the tone, 'duality of rock'
Notice Gabriel gives Johnny an apple outside the grocery/liquor store when he returns from watching the guitar. The apple is symbolic of knowledge, the word of God, knowledge of good and evil, the fall from Eden into consciousness and suffering. It's a key to knowledge, the forbidden fruit and fall of man from oneness into a duality of flesh and the soul (the duality of rock is music and the purge of soul suffering). The apple was a sign of something ominous to come where choices between good and evil must be made. "It's what you feel, not what you see."
When you cut open an apple you'll see 5 points inside where the seeds rest, corresponding to the 5 point pentagram -Satanism and Magik in rock music- thus the apple is the fruit of magik and prophecy, which is why Gabriel appears with an apple as a prophet to warn him with scripture.
And of course we know the true meaning of Hollywood when Gabriel says "don't get caught inside the hollow wood."

The ring is symbolic of a covenant, bondage, a slave and master relationship. The devil wants him to accept a promise ring with evil in trade for pleasure and lust, and follows with "my deal is the best in town, you should sign it."
When Johnny walks away from the Devil in that same scene, the devil tells him "you're so quick to judge, I thought that's what you hated in people?"
Johnny used feeling, intuition to judge the devil in his outer appearance (in this case a homeless guy) but then the devil enticed him with thoughts, the mind, using insecurity to lure him in, "They judged the way you looked, the way you dressed, the music you listened to" instead of following through with his intuition as Gabriel warned him.
Lily's ex boyfriend is Damien, and although it doesn't mean the devil, you see a lot of interpolation with Damien and the Devil, this is what gave me a hunch that Lily was in on the sabotaging. If Damien is Lily's ex then Damien wasn't real either, he's but another demon.
The Devil changes appearances after every attempt fails, and the 3rd attempt... why did he appear in luxury, a Bentley, in his 3rd attempt to ensnare the band? And why was he successful in his 3rd attempt?
Because the Devil usually appears in threes: moral (the Devil first appeared as an honest, moral sound American worker in his Hollywood truck outside the liquor store); intellectual (mind -when he used insecure thoughts against Johnny); physical (the Devil appeared outside Damien's bar in a Bentley).
Johnny and his band conquered the first two entices (moral and intellectual), but fell victim to the third and strongest weapon, physical/materials, and then Gabriel appeared with a final scripture before their covenant with the devil.
The only thing I don't like about this movie is it insinuates that we need the Holy Bible and the church, Christianity, to fix society. You can tell whoever wrote this is a conservative Christian and demonizes occultism; they give rock and occultism a bad name, conflating art and esoteric culture with capitalism and decadence. Art, in regards to Rock n Roll, and occultism didn't cause the chaos we see today, but actually preserves the beauty of truth that religion and the state mean to repress.
Also notice the table servant at Damien's bar, her name is Cassandra and the Devil says "Awwww Cassandra, thank you darling." And she replies "you welcome Mr. Capricorn. Cassandra knows his true nature, and Cassandra is also the Prophet of Doom in mythology, and they also discussed Lucifer at the table... Lucifer is Cassandra's lover!
You see Cassandra walk behind Damien, signaling execution to Johnny once Damien immediately appears after Johnny called home to his mom when the Devil gave him the ultimatum of a covenant or breast cancer, they're all of the Devil manipulating Johnny.
Either Damien is also a demon or just another rock musician who the Devil enticed through Lily, and the Devil uses Johnny to kill him.
This is only 30 minutes into the movie, there's so much lol

It's taken me years to finally view it, but I thought it was rather powerful, and I want to watch it again to sort of pick it apart.... There was so much symbolism in it to unpack....wow. Well done.
Edit:: I also found it interesting that the "devil" was referred to as "Mr. Capricorn", as the sign Capricorn is ruled by the goat, and the planet Saturn.... Fascinating how they tied that all in... 🤔

This is the more favorable season to review this film since it's Saturnian in nature, thus the Capricorn doorway is open and the signs and keys will readily unveil their hand. It's been a few years so I may have to review it along with you.

Never been much of a BVB fan, but I'd reserve judgement and give it chance to be fair. I mean this is Andy Biersack's first real acting roll. He could surprise us. I think it's a little small minded and a tad bit childish to write a film off just because you don't like his band. As I say, Black Veil Brides don't really do it for me, but I would be silly to blast a film I could potentially enjoy for that sake. An open mind goes a long way, ladies and gents and all in between.
