    Thank you! One of a kind review for this product indeed!
    I picked Island Green while passing DutyFree shop. I was concerned about what to expect of a NAS whiskey, once my standard is the original 15yo Green Label, and your explanation was very clear about each aged mix ranging from 11 up to 17 yo. Cheers from Brazil!

      Thank you rterra! Let me know how you like it. Remember that is just a guess from the smell and taste, but I would be surprised if there were anything younger than 10 and I expect some older was added. Cheers back!🥃🥃🥃🥃

      Always a pleasure to hear from you. Yes, I would say it’s a go for a frequent traveler or one with friends or family who do. If I only left the country once or twice a year I am not sure if I would buy it given the choices - that said for a 12-15 year old all malt at that price you’d have a hard time finding a single malt to beat it.
      Cheers my friend🥃🥃🥃🥃

    I love the Island Green and have been keeping the last few ounces in the bottle until my next trip where I can get a duty free replacement. I have a bottle of the regular Green label unopened on my shelf but have been holding off opening it. Your review tells me that they are different animals, so I think I will open it soon. I don't have to travel to replace it. Great review!

      Hi Brian, I will surely follow suit in getting one next time I am airborne. Quite different they are, but also complementary. If it’s the newer one with the stark white strip you’ll find it very centrist and I dare say a slight shift towards Speyside.
      Thanks for commenting! Let me know how you get on.

    Finally a good review of a rarely mentioned JW that is excellent in my opinion. I have the regular green and love it but it just has a touch of smoke on the tail end. Island Green on the other hand is a slap in the face ( in a good way ) with massive Peat, Salt and Brine at least that was my feeling back when I tried it at a party over a year ago. It was also my introduction to Peat so it hit me harder but boy did it grow on me and now I will definitely pick up a 1L bottle at duty free next time I travel. I find with Lagavulin I get more smoke but with Island Green I get the salt, brine more,so. Funny, I was wondering recently why no one compared the two ( Green & Island ) in CZcams reviews so it's about time, Thanks Mark

    • @WhiskyWhistle
      @WhiskyWhistle  Před 5 lety

      Thanks Robert! Yes definitely the peatiest standard blend and would be a whopper to someone who hasn’t had peated Scotch before. I am really excited to hear your thoughts when you get one! The price is right. Well I lucked out thanks to a local subscriber and now friend who lent me the bottle, and I just happened to have reviewed the latest Green Label a couple weeks earlier. Let’s hope it continues to perform!
      Cheers from Winnipeg🥃🥃🥃🥃

    Just picked up a bottle Duty Free, opened it to let it breathe, beautiful peaty aroma. Great deal at $65 for a whole litre. Will have both this and the 15 yr reg green opened and ready for Christmas to compare the two and share with anyone after they are down below the neck. Cheers

      Hi Robert Zemko well done! Great value in that one and the 15. You’ll find they also work well mixed, and if you have Caol Ila 12 or Talisker 10 you can bring out that smoke even more with a few drops.
      Cheers and Merry Christmas🥃🥃🥃🥃

    Great video from a fellow Canadian. I’m in Northern Ontario.
    I picked up a bottle of the JW Island Green in January at a Duty Free in Mexico.
    It was about $70 Cdn.
    I have since enjoyed about half the bottle and I must say, I think this is my favourite whisky I’ve enjoyed at this price point. I love the peat, smoke, citrus, and coal flavours. It’s terrific.
    My previous faves in that price range are Highland Park Viking Honour, Jura 12 year, Glenfiddich 15 year, and a few others.
    Great video, just sharing my thoughts.
    Subscribed and liked.

      Hi D Sheridan thanks so much! Green Label and Island Green are definite performers in the 50-100 dollar range. You may like Jane Walker if it’s available where you are - a tad less expensive and more malty sweetness for a change.
      Check out Naked Malt(formerly Naked Grouse) for a superb inexpensive Sherry bomb.
      Much appreciated!

    I think you absolutely hit all the nails right on the head, I find Island Green to be Caol Ila and Talisker forward, one having good age and perhaps the Talisker and others coming in a little younger for the young smoky peat and remaining bit of sweetness. At $60USD/$78CAD for a litre at our local DF, it's a great value if you're not already bringing back a mountain of other bottles! The standard Green Label is better, but for a nice smoky go-to, it's a great option. Obviously the "Island" part refers to Islay, but for whatever reason, I immediately think of warm crystal clear blue Caribbean waters when I think of "Island Green". Poolside or somewhere down in Cuba, Jamaica, or Barbados, I'm pretty sure a dram of Island Green would complete the scene!

    • @WhiskyWhistle
      @WhiskyWhistle  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi TJ and thanks for the epic comment! Glad we agree! Yes the price is on point for sure. That’s exactly why it took until now for me as there were always other bottles I wanted to get at duty free. Oh that is an enticing scene my friend. If I can I’ll hit Cuba or Jamaica next year, enjoy a cigar and some Island Green.
      Cheers from Winnipeg🥃🥃🥃

    I just picked this one up on my travels... definitely more smoky! I think I enjoy Green Label 15 more, but it’s definitely not bad for the money. $92 CDN at Travel Retail for the bottle versus $80 for the standard 750ml bottle at LCBO

      @WhiskyWhistle  Před 5 lety +1

      What a coincidence! Good call. Yes, all considered slightly less expensive, but except for the peat(which is very nice) a hair or two below the standard 15 all around. That said I hope the 15 doesn’t continue its shift towards speyside...I prefer highland plus Island!

    I like the Island Green, and always pick up a bottle when passing through an international airport, but I still prefer the standard Green Label. The extra peat in the Island Green seems to tone down the complexity from the 15 year.
