getting and building a charybdis from bastard keyboards was an absolute gamechanger it took a couple start and stop sessions, and especially since I use it tented gaming in that mode was limited at best but depending on what I was doing which was a lot of work and hobby stuff, design is all open source but the combo of ortholinear, trackball and ergo shaped more to your hand was definitely a learning curve but once you use it a bit it clicks and I can type faster on it now even though I've had to swap it out for a regular keyboard for a bit because I got lazy swapping it in and out for my gaming. but if I know I'm going to sit down for a while it's amazing if you do a lot of work and some hobbies behind your computer. I would like wireless as an option but it's definitely a compromise depending on your use,.If I had to split the difference instead of just having 2 though, this seems perfect for it.

There is couple other companies making premium boards like these and they all have similar base prices at around 350€. If you only want the functionality you can buy diy kit and assemble it yourself or you can design and order it directly from the pcb manufacturers to save even more. My point being that while they are exorbitantly expensive it’s because splits are niche product with often times very small scale production runs, many being done by hand on order. You can’t expect such product to compete price wise against mainstream keyboards. Whether something is waste of money isn’t for you to decide, if they get value out of it then it isn’t waste.

Yeah, you have to keep in mind that basically everything about a traditional keyboard is designed to slow your typing down. Back in the days of a mechanical typewriter, if a person got typing too fast, the hammers for the letters would bind up. So they had to design the keyboard in such a way that you couldn't type too fast and bind up your keys. That's how the QWERTY layout was born. Now that this is no longer an issue, it's a great time for manufacturers to explore new layouts.

@@DygmaLab I looked at the specs since you have mentioned them. Seem to have the same actuation force. Travel distance is slightly longer on MX Blue. Two things that separate them is the Kailh Box white click twice on every stroke and the reset point.
To be honest I am happy enough with MX Blue. However, if I ever come across a keyboard with Kailh Box white in, I will try out. Just can’t be bothered to order a set specially, since all 5 keyboards in the house are all MX Blue, I am 60 and retired.

You rest your wrists while typing on the traditional keyboard as well as the "ortho". Resting your wrist is one no-no, but another is angling your wrists up while typing. If you're going to put your wrist on a surface while typing, I'd go with the "ortho". Of course putting it on the desk surface kinda forces your hand, as it were.
