My mom divorced her first husband of 20 years because he fell into drugs while on deployment in Germany. He was never the same. He beat her, and she fought back hard. She was a better fighter than him and equal in size at 6'2. She did way more than any other woman could. She was pregnant with me when she stopped fighting back to protect me. He broke bones, pushed her down the stairs, and more. He never cheated, though. She got full custody of all of us because she said she would k*ll him if he tried to take us. She didn't care if he beat her. Just don't touch her kids.

Back in the 4% days, there were probably a lot of men who wanted to be divorced, too. But, back then, men and women both stuck it out, just like our ancestors have done for thousands of years. Do you think that all those people were happy? Even when 'no fault' divorces (what a load of shit) became trendy in the 70s, most couples would stay married until their kids graduated high school. Then, in the 80s, 'the experts' said that if you're not happy, your kids won't be happy, so by all means, get a divorce. These experts have since then, backtracked on that. Now they say that unless physical abuse is involved, it's better for the kids, if the parents stay together.
But, today, it's like, yeah, divorce is not good for kids, but, the problem is if I don't get a divorce, I can't go and be with my soul mate that I met online 3 months ago. So what if it hurts everybody else, emotionally and financially, at least I'll be happy!
There were they called it walk away divorce. The government caught on with all the orphans and women being abandoned and started putting alimony and child support in place. Alimony and child support started bc men were abandoning families and other men were tired of paying taxes to compensate for some of these dead beat dads. FYI men today do not enjoy paying taxes for programs created by walk away fathers( more common for men to walk away than mothers).
It was very hard to get a divorce back than due to the social stigma accociated with it and the laws requirements in place to get one.

It’s more economically sound to stay married being that she shares all his money vs getting a divorce which cuts that down to half. With children involved it’s even harder being a single parent than staying with a partner who helps raise the children. Now if a women is paying half the bills and doing all the childcare she is a married single parent. It would be a struggle to divorce but she is already doing 75% of the work so what’s another 25%. Most creatures on this earth will not stay in an aversive environment or an environment that is severely deficient. All men need to do is pull their weight around the house (when she is paying 50/50) and create a safe non aversive environment. Also men learning to decompress from work instead of yelling at or being annoyed with their families may go a long way. The children are half yours so you should be spending as much time with ur kids as she does. It should be work home not work Xbox/golfing/hobbies.

The argument that women couldn't get divorced is BS. One of my grandmothers divorced my grandfather, on pretty good grounds (infidelity), and because both their children were over 18 she didn't get anything out of it, and she didn't want anything other than severing ties with him.

Considering a lot of women get divorces because "i'm just not happy anymore", i don't think that removing incentives would be the be-all-end-all solution. If there's no reward, but also no risk, it would continue to happen because of the natural way women's emotions fluctuate.

One of the biggest reasons divorce was so low before is because even if women weren't in a happy marriage they still put their children and their overall family before that, women and men both nowadays are way too selfish and always think about themselves before anyone else, it's honestly really sad to see
So many of them remove themselves from consideration the minute they open their mouths. They don’t know how much better we are without these types.
Here's a novel concept. Don't be a shetty mate. This is regardless of gender. Be a good person and commit to a person. Having a family or starting one is like building a home. Some people build model homes and some build historic mansions. They are both homes and valuable. They are not hotel rooms or tents. Those have a place and purpose but it's not for a family unit long term. 😊

In the past, laws were skewed against women so even women that were abused financially or psychologically and couldn't prove it on court were forced to stay married to their abuser.
Remember that in America, the narcotic epidemic began in the 50s and housewives used to be the one of the demographics that consumed narcotics the most to cope with feelings of depression.

Modern legislation and lawfare has simply pushed the punishment of a divorce away from the woman to the man. Before he could run off with the secretary and there wasn’t much the wife could do legally. Now she can run off with the personal trainer and still get him to pay out.

So my wife/I is now divorced... the wealth lost for both parties in lawyers is =/> 40% of total wealth. Obfuscated finances allowed her to only get $90k usd. The damage to our son is horrific with the lies and tug of war. My son so horribly damaged.

I endured years of physical abuse by my ex-wife as I worked to support her through her struggles and to keep my young family together. I sacrificed everything including nearly my life until she fractured my face and was arrested. Even then, SHE filed for divorce as I learned she dated on the side. Despite her domestic violence causing bodily harm conviction, the granting of an emergency restraining order, and more, she got 50% of all the earnings from my hard work and I pay 2/3rds of everything for the children until they are adults while she lives off years of spousal support she shouldn’t even be eligible to receive. I see my kids only 1/2 the time because the law doesn’t allow me more and we wonder why men don’t want to get married…

@@RickyUzumaki993 That’s an understatement but I wish more men would read this post. As a man, I was willing to endure a lifetime of hell for my children and to provide the best for them. This is the sacrifice a real man makes. Hilarious that she was the source of every single issue but instead of seeking the help she needed, she broke apart the family (children were 3 and 5 at the time) so she can pursue her own selfish needs and smoke weed all day. The system absolutely supported this endeavor for her with no-fault laws whereby she was entitled to so much of my earnings and time with the kids regardless of what heinous and violent acts she committed against me. There are very few good women left out there, the system is broken and it empowers women to be the absolute worst of what life has to offer but still grab everything a man works to build in his life.
Happiness is secondary to coming together to create a strong family. Women getting bored and divorcing their husbands is disgusting.
