  • This is a video created by Mark O'Dwyer. This is an animation I created for my final year project using the cinematic technique known as Machinima. The song is sung by Paul Brady as gaeilge. I studied Digital Media Design in the University of Limerick. Here is a link to my linkedin profile / 8ba Here is a link to the English version • Lake Pontchartrain sun... and also a similiar FYP done last year • Jimmy Mo Mhíle Stór
    Lyrics and Translation:
Ar mhaidin gheal sa Mhárta d'fhág mé slán le New Orleans
Is thug mé aghaidh ar Jackson Town, ar lorg stóir agus maoin'.
Mo ghráin ar airgead iasachtach, ní raibh cairde agam le fáil.
Sin a bhris mo chroí le crá is le cumhaidh ar bhruach Loch Pontchartrain.
T'was on one bright March morning I bid New Orleans adieu
And I took the rode to Jackson town, me fortune to renew
I cursed all foreign money, no credit could I gain
Which filled me heart with longin' for the Lakes of Pontchartain.
Thug mé léim ar thraein le héirí gréin' agus thriall mé rith an lae.
'S ag deireadh neoin le tuirse is brón ba mhian liom dhul faoi shuan.
Níor chairde domh na strainséirí gur tharla fá mo dhéin.
An ainnir chrón de threibh creole ar bhruach Loch Pontchartrain.
I stepped on board of a railroad car beneath the morning sun
And I rode the roads 'til evening and I laid me down again
All strangers here, no friends to me 'til a dark girl towards me came
And I fell in love with a Creole girl from the Lakes of Pontchartrain.
Ar mé "A chailín creole, tá mo phócaí lom, faraor.
Ach ab é na halligators, do luífinn síos faoin spéir."
"Tá fáilte romhat go dtí mo thí [sic], cé gur simplí é i réim.
Ach níor diúltadh riamh don strainséir ann ar bhruach Loch Pontchartrain."
I said my pretty Creole girl, me money here's no good
If it weren't for the alligators I'd sleep out in the wood
You're welcome here kind stranger, our house it's very plain
But we never turn a stranger out at the Lakes of Pontchartrain.
Thug sí go teach a máthara mé is rann sí liom go fial,
'S a folt dubh cas ina ndlaoithe deas' thar a guaillí a chroch aniar.
Ar a maise is scéimh níl scríobh ná léamh, ar a háilleacht is ar a gnaoi.
Is í an ainnir chaomh a mheall mo chroí ar bhruach Loch Pontchartrain.
She took me to her mummy's house and she treated me quite well
The hair upon her shoulders in jet black ringlets fell
To try and paint her beauty I'm sure t'would be in vain
So handsome was my Creole girl from the Lakes of Pontchartrain.
Dhiúltaigh sí mé a phósadh ach d'inis sí domh go fíor
Go raibh a grá ar bharr na dtonn i bhfad i gcéin ón tír.
Dúirt sí go mbeadh sí dílis dó is go bhfanfadh sí leis féin
Go bpillfeadh sé chuig a ghrá creole ar bhruach Loch Pontchartrain.
I asked her if she'd marry me, she'd said it could never be
For she had got another and he was far at sea
She said that she would wait for him and true she would remain
'Til he returned for his Creole girl from the Lakes of Pontchartrain.
Céad slán le brón, a chailín chróin, anois 'tá ag imeacht uaim.
Ach beidh cuimhne ar do chineáltas ag teach beag chois an chuain.
'Measc cairde cléibh ag spraoi nó scléip go líonfad gloine lán
Le sláinte a ól d'ainnir creole ar bhruach Loch Pontchartrain.
So fair thee well me bonny o' girl I never see no more
But I'll ne'er forget your kindness and the cottage by the shore
And at each social gathering a flowin' glass I'll raise
And drink a health to me Creole girl from the Lakes of Pontchartrain.

Excellent! I loved the lighting in the sunset scenes and the alligators the best. The playback was a bit dodgy towards the end but it could just be my internet connection
