I never knew this song was written for her friend that committed suicide but somehow, that makes the entire video make sense: shot hazy, like memories, two women having fun, depressive atmosphere and smoke everywhere...not to mention we see her jump a number of times. Man, I knew this song for a long time but this is the first time the video makes sense. I love her for this because it's important to remember the dead. Also, it proves true sentiment produces the greatest work, or at least the most powerful. I always had chills listening to this, now I know why.
For anyone going through tough times, please, hold on, be as strong as you can and you see, it always gets better. People *will* cry if you die. You matter. The struggle isn't worth your life, please seek help from friends and family, or even a professional. Try to push through, try to fight it. Day by day, try to beat it, you matter. You matter so much.

I would just like to point out that this song is stolen. In the chorus part (I got that summertime summertime sadness), the melody is the EXACT SAME as the orchestra in "Everybody's on the run" by "Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds"
If you don't believe me, listen to the song and skip to 23 seconds in and you'll hear the EXACT SAME melody. And bear in mind, "Everybody's on the run" released on the 17th October 2011, while "Summertime sadness" released on January 1st 2012. And the album that includes "Everybody's on the run" hit no.1 when it released, so there's a high chance that Lana Del Rey would probably be aware of the song and would probably know that that melody was already being used.
And one thing I would point is that that’s a two month difference and artists very often record songs way before it’s release
