  • Ever since I got this bike, the rear brake pedal was bent slightly. So I used a propane torch to heat it up and bend it back in place. Easy fix!

    Awesome! Almost took out $60 to buy a new break pedal off Honda's website but then found this; definitly worth a try!

      Update: I woke up this morning & tried it on my CRF250L. Break pedals now all good!

      No it's not unless you know what you are doing and he does not this is not how you fix a break arm or pedal this is how you make it brittle this is how you temper a section of the metal causing it to break off the next time you want to break hard this is how you lose a foot this is how you get people killed this is what it looks like when people that have no clue what they're doing post videos with no regard to other people's safety if he tried to do that in a professional shop he wouldn't have a job in fact they probably beat the shit out of them before they kicked him out this is a very stupid idea take a coat hanger and bend it take that same coat hanger torch a section in the middle red hot let it cool I'll bend it again what do you think's going to happen that section where you turned it red that's going to snap like a piece of spaghetti unless you know how to work metal at a molecular level you don't do this you go buy a used part for 20 bucks or a new one 40 50 bucks save your foot or your leg and hopefully you'll be riding for a long time

      @@vaughnlevesconte1192 please read my comments on this video you want to take into consideration that your brake pedal is now weak in the spot where it was bent this is not how you fix this this is how you get people killed I've seen it I'm speaking from experience this is how you lose a foot or worse yet get sucked under your bike when the brake arm or pedal snaps off

    I'd love to see some more complex jobs broken down (could be multiple videos) . Something like Changing sparkplugs, flush and fill radiator fluids with track compliant, or doing a service on the forks / shocks (replace seals, fill fill fresh oil etc..)

    I had no idea it the metal would get so malleable. Now I know how to fix mine. Thanks !!

      Noooooo do not do this this is dangerous and stupid your weakening the metal to the point it will not retain its strength whatsoever that brake pedal is going to snap off the next time you need to stop in an emergency and your foot's going to either get smeared on the pavement or ripped off or worse yet you're going to get killed this guy doesn't know what he's talking about this video is dangerous and he should add a warning or take it down

      Heating aluminium will make it brittle.Either bend it cold or get a new pedal.

    As I don't have experience with metalworking, do you see any issues with weakening the metal and it breaking off easier?

    • @tims-garage
      @tims-garage  Před 3 lety

      None at all. I made sure not to overheat it

      You sir get a gold star this guy is doing in the video is potentially going to get someone killed you can't heat metal up red hot and expect it to retain its strength what he's doing is tempering it in one small area leaving the rest to be malleable or to be soft so the next time he stands on it where it's weakened and now tempered that section is going to snap right off he's going to smear his foot all over the pavement or worse yet get sucked under his bike his thing this video is dangerous it should only be done by a professional with years of metal work if you do not understand metal at a molecular level this type of job should never be undertaken I know guys that have worked with metal for 20 years that would refuse to do this they would tell you know what if you're too cheap to go spend 40 50 bucks on the new pedal park your bike because they're not fixing something that could potentially kill you and from what I can see that break pedal and arm that is a piss poor design to start with now add in the fact that these cheap guys are going to go buy a part that's made in China using inferior metal inferior welding what's going to happen I'll tell you what's going to happen you're going to have a bunch of guys with only one foot hobbling around unable to ride a bike this guy needs to fix this he needs to put a warning on this video or he needs to take it down this is why I don't like platforms like CZcams and all these video sites where anybody Joe blow can post videos making it look like they actually know what they're doing when they don't and the fact that he uses a propane plumbers torch and calls it a blowtorch no that's a plumbing propane torch that first of all has no business being in a shop secondly takes way too long to heat up the metal lastly once you've taken so long to heat up the metal you heated it up so bad you've now basically lost 70% of its strength minimum I bet you 20 bucks I could walk up to his brake pedal with a 4 lb mallet give it one whack it'll snap right off how do I know I've done it I've tested it I've been in a shop with guys standing around going oh it's fine it's fine walk right up to it give it a whack it's sitting on the floor I turn around and look at them tell them that's your foot hitting the pavement getting smeared all over that's you getting sucked under your bike that's your wife visiting your grave idiots

      You have room room and then you try and break your pedal snaps off because the metals been weakened your foot gets smeared all over the pavement or worse yet you get sucked under your bike and your wife or your parents are at your grave now standing over your dead body you have room vroom vroom smash

    To work alloy heat it till when you touch paper on it it just starts to brown it , then its hot enough to work but you ain't going to melt it , trick I learned from metal fabricators
