FNaF2's Unseen Mechanic

- I want to give a shoutout to Folmic for being the starting point for this video and helping figure out how it ended up scrapped.
For anyone wondering, no scrapped mechanics or assets got touched between 1.0 and the last version, 1.033.
This video is a bit of an outlier on my channel, but more could come. There are quite a few FNaF things that have little or no coverage, like metalrun.wav, or are very common misconceptions. Any and all ideas and questions are welcome.

I'm somewhat surprised this hit the algorithm, but I'm glad I could share this fun fact with you all!
I've got another (vaguely related?) video in the works, but if any of you guys have ideas for future videos, don't hesitate to put them in a comment :)
And for anyone wanting to see the rare Puppet hallucination in action, here is a raw video I've got with three appearances at 2:29.73, 2:59.40, and 3:09.87:

Hey there! Could you tell me where you found the lines of coding? It looks really interesting and I would like to have them :D
@@SubliminalFeels I decompiled the game using CTFAK and opened the MFA with Clickteam Fusion.
@@itztaken Might there be a mod that restores this mechanic?
@@pwrsocket Buy him a new mic if you care that much. His mic is good as it is
@@itztaken Could you link it or make it more available please? This seems too complicated for me XD
I bet Scott originally designed this mechanic to give the secret characters more mystery behind them, but once he noticed he coded it wrong, he realized he should just let them be seen in all their glory if you happen to stumble across them.
or it could have been intentionally scrapped, so fans wouldn't think Shadow Freddy and a sertain other dark character were related, as the flashlight makes both go away, although despite removing it, fans still ended up being set on believing they're the same character... oh well, he tried Ig.
@@ender01o66 Who is the other character?
@@MechaKnuckles RWQFSFASXC
@@ender01o66 Oh yeah, I also doubt that they're related.
@@MechaKnuckles Nice :)
Imagine how even more massive the audience's shock would've been if they were only allowed to see a second of it.
Not only that, but them moving out of sight implies they're still around. I imagine anyone on their first playthrough would be on edge thinking these other hidden animatronics are somewhere in the level.
Gaslighting people into thinking they made it up cause they're scared lmao😊
I love how we're still discovering stuff about the original games despite them coming out somewhere around 8-9 years ago now
i remember it like it was yesterday
9 years ago? Man I feel old now
I swear, there's a comment like this about every game in existence.
this aint undertale bro
Mark my words: There's still a lot to discover, maybe even things that could entirely change the whole outlook on FNAF's lore, we can't say for sure what Scott was originally thinking about when making all this and he himself refuses to share that info either, we're still stuck with a lot of questions about the lore that don't have any valid proof even though there definitely should be an answer.
The Endo-02 in the vent/Prize Counter has always been my personal favorite FNAF easter egg, and the fact that you would only originally see it (And Shadow Freddy) for a mere moment before they scuttle away makes it all the more cool. Awesome video!
Your comment got liked 666 times.
@@pustota7254 Oh lawd
It personally stuck with me for a while because it's the only time I was convinced that an easteregg that ended up being real was fake.
I had personally already seen Shadow Freddy myself, and a friend of mine had seen Shadow Bonnie before, but neither of us had ever seen Endo 02 ourselves.
As well as that, I had seen videos that _were_ fake going around of an "Endo 02 jumpscare".
It never really occurred to me the jumpscare might be fake, but the rest may be real, becuase why would they add a secret character who can move rooms without ever allowing that character to reach your room?
Just generally as well, it just so happened that in hours upon hours of FNaF 2 videos I'd watched, I had seen people naturally come across every other secret in the game (as in, they just ran into it while playing, they weren't going out of their way to make a video about the secret or to look for it), but the only time I ever saw Endo 02 was from people I'd never heard of making videos where they start a night and already find him like 2 minutes in, so it always seemed sus to me.
I think it literally took until lke 3 years later for me to have that - wait... _that was real?_ - moment.
@@doublechindoge7 you could literally just look for him yourself, he is probably the easiest easter egg to find (I got him twice in the vent and twice in prize corner when I wanted to check if easter eggs are still active in custom night)
"Negligent homicide" is my new favourite way of saying accidental bug
I don't care if this was the first attempt or not, this guy is GOD TEIR for being able to flawlessly pronounce Shadow Bonny's weird name, without stuttering.
right?? hearing that made me wonder if i've ever succeeded in a single thing during my life

This is incredible, had Scott actually done this correctly, the random encounters would have been much much MUCH more mysterious.
Came from Reddit, definitely subscribed because your research on how FNaF's code functions is really well-made!
Thanks!
It's crazy how it's been 9 years and people are still finding things from these old games
Fnaf has a lot of content because it's great.
this is actually really sick to know and this makes much more sense because ive always thought that those easter eggs just being there was weird
This is a cool little bit of trivia that I've never heard before, so I'm glad you pointed it out! Also nice catch on that Puppet image, which does indeed show up in a lot of places as unused - admittedly, that use of it is a little hard to see, but is a really good way to do it since it's just faint enough that you catch a glimpse of the shape of his face while he's approaching you.
I think the only part I understood was that the unused puppet shot wasn't actually unused but I could tell that you know your stuff. Good video
Too Long; Didn't Understand:
There's a timer that would count up to 0.5s and trigger those secret animatronics to disappear (along with unused sound metalrun.wav).
While testing, Scott put lines in that accidentally overwrite the timer, meaning it didn't end up being possible to trigger.
@@itztaken Hmm, Scott accidentally writing contradictory code that overwrites secrets in Fnaf 2 seems to be an ongoing theme
@@itztaken To be honest, at least as someone who's not a die hard FNAF fan this video IS really confusing. You say "the secret animatronics" at 0:25 but don't say what those are or show how they work in the game. From what you say right after I can assume that okay, they're a thing that must show up sometimes and then stick around and stare at you, but they were intended to only be there for a half a second. But even if I make that assumption I quickly lose the thread after that, the very next thing you say at 0:50 is "*this mechanic* was intended to happen when you see endo-O2..." and I just have no idea what "this mechanic" means. The secret animatronics were meant to disappear when you see endo-O2....? Because that contradicts the statement that they were meant to disappear after half a second. Then you say you "made the odds slightly more favorable" so I can assume you've modded the game to show off the mechanic but.... what odds? Nothing you mentioned so far seems to involve probability.
just, you know, in case an outside perspective is helpful. I just kinda laughed when I saw this comment because I felt the exact same way, the puppet thing was the one clear, concrete, standalone fact that made sense to me in the video
@@Jack-sy6di Literally later in the video he talks about the odds of the 2 secret animatronics appearing in 3 cameras and they're very clearly focused on in the entire video.
Endo-02 in the Left Vent 1/1000 chance of appearing as long as no REAL threat is in the vent.
Endo-02 in the Prize Corner is around a 1/10 chance of appearing, but he only shows up if the Puppet (a character that is also talked about in the video) leaves the giant gift box that you are supposed to wind up within the Camera System
Shadow Freddy in Parts and Service is also around a 1/10 chance of appearing as long as all the REAL threats that spawn in that room have left it.
Shadow Bonnie (RWQFSFASXC) was not mentioned or focused on here because he does not appear in the Camera Systems and only appears in the office to crash the game if you don't pull up the Camera System quickly enough to make him disappear. The metalrun.wav sound effect has no reason to play for him and he can't cause a black out because he's not on the cameras.
When he mentions "this mechanic" it can be inferred he's talking about the Secret Characters (again, Endo-02 and Shadow Freddy) disappearing when you look at them as he stated prior about looking at them for a certain amount of time they will disappear and play the sound effect. the "mechanic" is just the process of them disappearing within that short time frame. He explains then on how the intended "mechanic" of them disappearing and playing a sound effect when they do (as well as disabling the camera in that room for a few seconds) was broken and unintentionally overwritten due to different lines of code.
One thing that he didn't outright state is how the Secret Animatronics work probably because he assumes most people that watch this are going to be FNAF fans. To explain it to you, FNAF games will often times have very rare events that happen that aren't really of any actual importance or threat to the player (with exceptions like Shadow Bonnie talked about earlier, another example of a character appearing in the office and crashing the game is Golden Freddy in FNAF 1 who falls under the same idea of a very rare occurrence that can end your game). These secrets may include screens that appear when you're booting up the game, mentioned within the video is the empty heads of Withered Foxy, Toy Bonnie, and Withered Freddy. Other games have those types as well. Secret Animatronics that don't do anything but randomly occur to throw off the player also appear in other games aside from FNAF 2. In FNAF 3 there is a rare chance that a Golden Freddy that's been muddled in green and other dark gross colors appears on the left side of that office, it's easy to miss and doesn't pose any real threat it's just there to scare you.
@@SleepyReapy32 What do you mean? He never shows the secret animatronics
I think it wouldve been really cool to have Endo still have this mechanic so you see him in the vent and have no time before he runs out of the vent, leading the player to probably think it just got into the office so fast that the player couldn't even get a good look
God the obscure stuff of FNAF is always a treat to see
Mood
I actually really appreciate videos like these cause I always see dumb as mess FNaF videos saying stuff about "unknown" or "secret" things that no one knows about, and then literally bringing up the most well-known stuff in the community.
With this, I genuinely did not know that this was an actual mechanic that Scott (of course) fluked up, despite having investigated the mfa myself, and also that Puppet frame actually being USED in the game (although that's really hard to tell it seems from the example you provided). Anyways, great video and I'm glad people are seeing actual cool stuff like this
> that's really hard to tell it seems from the example you provided
Yeah, it's funny how the sprite being fullscreen actually makes it harder to notice (not to mention it only showing up for a frame, and being effectively 18x rarer than the others).
Watching the music box be deliberately unwined activates my fight or flight response and I haven't even played the game.
the fact you said shadow bonnie's name so well makes me jealous, ton of us can't pronounce it and you just say it so well and so quick xd
Good stuff though :>
my whole life was leading up to that moment
@@itztaken lol xd you did well! also great videos!
My dude, I've gotta commend you for doing the digging to set this vid up. This was actually quite the entertaining and enjoyable watch, man! Cudos for the hard work, and style points for the payoff!
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed it.
God, this game has so many hidden things about it, like the fact that you cn track puppet after she gets out of the box, and now this. Wow.
Nice video!
Scrapped concepts and game mechanics are always so interesting to me. Especially when remnants of it exist in the game and you finally get some context. Or you get to imagine what the game would be like if it was properly e
implemented. So cool
remnants lmao
Is nobody gonna talk about how this unseen mechanic ends up separating Shadow Freddy and RWQFSFASXC (Shadow Bonnie) even more??? That Shadow Freddy was implied to run off camera while presumably at this time Shadow Bonnie still faded and crashed your game?
Makes sense because shadow bonnie and shadow freddy were shadow versions of Spring bonnie and fredbear, or something like that. Evidenced by one of the spring bonnie heads in the fnaf 4 minigames looking a lot like toy bonnie and also why its specifically toy bonnie and withered freddy or golden freddy, and why shadow bonnie has an extra set of top teeth for no discernible reason.
So the shadow variant of spring bonnie, later becoming springtrap crashing your game makes a lot of sense, especially as foreshadowing.
Neat! Always a little disappointed to see cool mechanics like this scrapped, but I guess it didn't make that big a difference in the end, heh. Good video!
Very interesting and well explained.
Glad you liked it!
Never knew that the puppet one was actually in the game! Noice
wow this is actually really well explained
8 years and never have I seen someone debunk the Puppet render and talk about this mechanic. Thank you so much for creating this video lol

FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO ACKNOWLEDGES THE MIKE PHOTO
back when he wasnt afton...
i wonder what it meant?
Maybe Mike was actually dead all along and the games were meant to be his recollections of his life as he sits in purgatory?
Before the Afton stuff, of course.
@@registeredpyromaniac Maybe. What if he was originally the purple guy?
@@cryxton3148 It'd be an interesting theory, but Fritz only being hired for night 6 and 7 shoots a hole through the theory imo. The authorities have a suspect at the time, and why would Fritz come back to mess with the Toy Animatronics if they're already being scrapped? Of course, this could be the reason why the animatronics are so much more hostile on the bonus nights. They know their killer is in the building...
@@registeredpyromaniac Which is why I believe Fritz is the fnaf 2 phone guy
(the phone guys being separate is a can of worms i dont wanna get into)
@@cryxton3148 The reason I think Mike is the same as Fritz is due to the fact that they're both fired for being odorous. It may be the smell of blood and decay, which would add more credence to Mike being the og purple guy theory.
Either way, it's a very intriguing theory.

@@itztaken Thx for the reply! Also, is it possible to fix the code to make this mechanic work?
@@Digit4lSpace Well, considering I fixed it for this video, yeah. There isn't a mod or anything that fixes it though, it's incredibly minor.
@@itztaken oh xD sorry

Excluding this mechanic makes the Easter egg characters more cryptic. I’ve always liked when a game seemingly “doesn’t acknowledge” something’s exist once within it.
Sheeesh wtf you are a little channel but it didn't stop you to make such a great video with an incredible investigation and explanation of this theme.
I'm so proud of you Itztaken-kun (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤
Man, Scott really had some spaghetti code back in the day.
back in the day, in the current day, and into the future
So the endo was meant to scurry off elsewhere? What if it was an animatronic you had to force to go to specific locations? Maybe he would unwind the puppet’s music box and you would have to scoot him to a vent, possibly causing him to show up in your office? He could also maybe be seen being forced into spare suits, or having the animatronics be distracted with trying to stuff the bare endo, instead of being a threat to you.
Having the endo go to different cameras, and as such, distracting the others away from you. Over time, as they put more and more pieces on you, he vanishes back to parts & service to take it off and shut down. (Very rare he comes out)
That sounds like an interesting idea! A little helper endo the guard uses to help deal with the animatronics!
@@rexspecificallyredrex64rem73 Yea! And with too much usage, it would become another animatronic to deal with
