Are they simply not compatible ? I cant seem to get video or audio out of any configuration using HDMI Nor the Optical. I'm seriously frustrated here as I just sold my HK AVR that worked fantastic,but I wanted the HDMI upgrade. maybe the used DENON is broken??

    Great Scott:
    HDMI will give you both picture and sound in the HIGHEST quality available
    you do not need to use optical fiber cable ( the wire with the red light on each end )
    all you need is one HDMI cable for each component cable box, game console, DVD, etc...

      Mario Lets say you have a projector and you wanted to connect all these hdmi devices to to it, you can't because there is just 1 or2 hdmi ports on the projector. So it's just better to connect everything into the receiver and have 1 hdmi out to the projector. TVs may not also have enough hdmi's to connect all of your components. Lastly one remote is just needed to switch between sources for efficiency.

If I plug the subwoofer speaker wires directly to any other speaker out, the bass will come through. Any idea what I am doing wrong? thanks.

    NOTE: TV CONNECTION: THE VIDEO SHOWS PLUGGING AND HDMI FROM THE RECEIVERS HDMI (ARC) TO ONE OF THE TV''S HDMI PORTS, BUT IF YOUR TV INCLUDES AND HDMI ARC, YOU SHOULD PLUG THE HDMI CABLE INTO THAT PORT AND NOT A REGULAR HDMI PORT. THE ARC FEATURE ALLOWS THE UNITS TO COMMUNICATE TO EACH OTHER WHEREAS A REGULAR HDMI DOES NOT.

      I got them hooked up to my PC and only using the receiver when using the TV, otherwise just monitor and headphones.
      Im still debating why people are still using blu rays when they're not even using them. Certainly, its better quality and you'll keep the dvd's 4ever, but marginal for a lot of expense. Netflix or Prime or if you know the free stuff, its all good. You still get the surround effects.
      Now, a playstation/xbox will actually be better than a blu ray since you're getting way more things, so I see why people have that.

    • @robwr737
      @robwr737 Před 2 lety

      If you have a new TV that has only hdmi, it should still have optical audio out. The easiest thing to do if you can afford one is upgrade your receiver to one with hdmi and Arc or eArc(newer ones with eArc should be both i.e eArc and Arc"backward compatible"). eArc does same thing as ARC but also supports over 5.1,Dolby Atmos, DTS-X for larger speaker numbers highest sound bandwidth, etc buy ARC (audio return channel via hdmi) is sufficient for 5.1 surround sound most home theater systems.
      If you don't want to spend money on new receiver right now, yes you probably can set up your DVD player to run on your old receiver as long as the DVD player has hdmi out and should have an optical audio out as well like the tv. If your DVD player is so old it doesn't have hdmi, get a new one, get a blu-ray player which plays blu-ray, DVD, and CDS! They are very affordable and have what you need. Connect the DVD hdmi out to a TV hdmi in, connect the DVD optical out to one of the stereo receiver optical inputs. Setup menu in the blu-ray/ DVD player will allow you to set the audio output to optical instead of hdmi. Thus wat the video goes to the tv via hdmi and the audio goes to the receiver via optical, then on the TV, select your hdmi input source for the DVD, and on the receiver set the source to the corresponding optical input. I used to have this type setup with an old Technics receiver that didn't have hdmi and it worked great.

    I have heard that connecting a mic to a receiver and then speakers can ruin your speakers. Home theater speakers are design for high fidelity at low volume, and Karaoke/PA speakers are designed for loud volume with a compromise in fidelity. Because of this, the sound spikes (especially if you drop the mic) can damage your home theater speakers.

    Hi, I just replaced two RX-V377 Yamaha Receiver/Amps and have tested and confirmed the problem in both cases is the HMDI cards. While using one of the bad HDMI cards neither of the four units will power up. Using a good HDMI card and all four units work perfectly. Notice, "power up" is the issue. The power supplies to both "suspect units" tested perfectly.
    From Yamaha, a new HMDI card is $169 and I ONLY paid $80 for the two complete units on ebay. Here is my thinking:
    1. The "protection" circuits on the HMDI cards are not allowing the power supply to engage.
    2. The vendors who sold me the replacement (Used) units likely had the same problem (Would not power up due to "a turned off HMDI unit" by the protection circuit).
    3. Using a magnifing glass and good light, all four HDMI cards look exactly the same.
    QUESTIONS:
    a. How can I find a vendor/repair-place to repair the two inoperative HDMI cards?
    b. How can I sell the two good amps with inoperative HDMI cards for $40 each plus $12 freight?
    c. What other suggestions?
    I can use the two inoperative units if the HDMI boards are repaired.
    I appreciate. Jim.clayton at Claytonbank d--com. Thanks!

      if your receiver is a 5.1 receiver, you won't be able to add 2 more to make it a 7.1. tho if you want to jimmy it it's simple. just splice your rear or front cable to another front set, then get another speaker cable, and connect it to the receiver. tho i think when you do that, it eats some of the wattage.

      @Curt ¡s when you don't have any clue what you are talking, please don't talking. This is optical Toslink for digital audio streams. He needed HDMI also because of the video transfer. At the time not every TV had HDMI with ARC functionality (audio return channel)

    • @florianj6490
      @florianj6490 Před 4 lety +4

      If your TV have a HDMI port with ARC then you don't need the optical cable. This video is 5 years old. Nowadays you only need HDMI for audio and video. However, both the AV receiver HDMI port and the TV must have the additional HDMI ARC.

    • @robwr737
      @robwr737 Před 2 lety

      If your receiver is much older it may not have hdmi audio return, or if it is newer, you may need to enable it on both the receiver and the tv. Varies by receiver and manufacturer but if the hdmi monitor out has ARC, you don't necessarily have to have the optical. Look up your receiver brand/model/year and see if it supports ARC. Lots of videos on CZcams about ARC.

      if your receiver doesn't have an eq built in, you would have to buy one and plug it in the back. a lot of receivers will have them built in, even more so the ones with pre amps.

    • @demonpride1975
      @demonpride1975 Před 4 lety

      optical cables do support 5.1, but nothing beyond that. if you are wanting 7.1 you need to go straight HDMI. that being said, optical is not a good cable for surround sound.

  • @williamortiz5686
    @williamortiz5686 Před 6 lety +2

    Why would you plug a optical cable if your sound is coming out of the stereo and not the tv? If everything is connected to the stereo you don't need sound coming out of the tv. There's nothing connected to the tv

    • @luisramosjr.7192
      @luisramosjr.7192 Před 6 lety +3

      King_ Yodeep I thought the same thing. There's no need for the optical cable if you're running the signal from the ps3 to the receiver. The receiver is processing the audio while routing the video to the TV. Also, optical cables can only send 6 channels (5.1). If you want to do more than 5.1 you're going to need a hdmi cable. The only reason I run an optical cable from my TV to my receiver is for when I'm using built in apps on my TV, such as Netflix or Spotify. It's all about signal routing. Source to destination.

    • @demonpride1975

    Why would you need to connect both HDMI and Digital Audio?

    • @demonpride1975

      the digital audio is if you don't have an arc connection on the back of your TV. like if you were to use the in app smart tv apps. such as youtube or netflix. arc is a two way format, so if you have arc on your tv, and don't use a device. but just watch netflix on your smart TV. you can use either arc which sends sound to your receiver, or an optical digital cable if your tv doesn't have arc.
