It's about scarcity and capitalism. An NBA player is in demand and much rarer than a teacher or nurse. The best ones are so rare that only about 10-30 of them are on the whole planet. That's why they make so much. The markets reward scarce products that are in demand. People value their entertainment more than most things.

This is what kills me about some of the women of the WNBA and Caitlin Clark.
When Larry Bird went into the NBA, the only thing the people playing wanted to know was: "can he play at our level?" Yes, it was about color, because most of them hadn't met a white guy who could play at that level. (Makes me hope that Angel Reese, who is competitive and not antagonistic, will make that leap with Ms. Clark.)
Everyone always talks about "Magic and Larry." Sure, they were great and had two differing game styles. However, my favorite is still Larry Bird against Dominique Wilkins. That fourth quarter shoot-out was the best basketball game ever.

@@southsidenc336 you're right. If every single commentary of the NBA was about race then the NBA would be as popular as ever! Can't believe I'd think people were so dumb as to grow old of being racist POS. Good job bro I don't care about the score anymore, just about the race of who scores the goals! Whooooook

Larry and Magic popularity partly was because of race

Even long-time LeBron James-feet worshipper, Kendrick Perkins is begging for 40-year-old LeBron James to give up his NBA Player-spotlight and finally retire already. But LeBron James refuses to retire because LeBron James is still chasing Michael Jordan for Jordan’s undisputed GOAT ranking. Michael Jordan has had the basketball GOAT position locked for at least 36 years, from 1988 to 2024 and counting. Michael Jordan has been the GOAT from at least AGE 25 to now AGE 61 AND COUNTING. How pathetic are you to be 40-years-old and still chasing Michael Jordan for the GOAT distinction??? Smh. Pathetic!!!!!!!
