      So glad you enjoyed the video! I felt very overwhelmed by the idea of it at first too! Even with each new year I think - okay, this is going to be a lot for me! But I believe where God guides He provides! He makes it possible for me to have the passion, space and energy to do this amazing role! I truly believe that homeschooling is one of the best decisions I have made for my family. It gives me so much more time with my kids and I LOVE being able to learn with them and watch their sweet faces light up as they learn something new or get excited about an activity. I am cheering you on and I'm always here to chat if you have any homeschooling questions!

    • @HealthyGroceryGirl
      @HealthyGroceryGirl  Před rokem

      Haha!! One tip to save money is to try and reuse resources as much as you can for the second child!! I'll put a lot of pages in sheet protectors and we'll use dry-erase markers or if a program has a lot of pencil work that could be replaced with something like - Instead of drawing a circle around the letter, place a button on the letter! Then we'll do other activities to practice handwriting, but this helps us reuse some resources!! :) My kids are the same ages so we're right there with you!! xx

    Definitely watched until the end! I really appreciated this because we are heavily considering homeschool (and by that, I mean that this is what we want to do, but not sure where to start), and with my daughter being 4, my son being 2, and my youngest being 2.5 weeks old, the material you covered was spot on for what I needed. My next obstacle is that I’m a working mom, so I’ll need to know what that will look like! My schedule is relatively flexible, but because I do have the weekly meetings/calls and need to be “on call” for things that could pop up, I need to find a way to organize my weeks so that we can still make homeschooling work for us!

    • @HealthyGroceryGirl
      @HealthyGroceryGirl  Před 10 měsíci +2

      So glad you enjoyed the video! One great thing about the age your kids are at right now for homeschool is that is can really be so simple! Children learn SO much through play, reading books and conversations at age 4 and 2! We avoid screens or tablets in the car for the very reason of being able to have lots of conversation about what we see in the world around us, how things work etc! I also work (I work from home though so that is a bit different than perhaps your situation!) and we make up our own schedule that works for us! That means we may not do school on a Monday if that day doesn't work fo us that week and instead do some school on a Saturday! One of my favorite homeschool quotes is "homeschool is not public school at home, but a completely different way of learning!" I have also found that you don't have the have the perfect plan or schedule in order to start. Just get started and adapt as you go to what works well for your family and what doesn't! You know your kids and family best! The beauty of homeschooling is making it a truly custom experience that works great for the child but is also enjoyable and works for the parents and family unit!

    • @janipherhur9077
      @janipherhur9077 Před 10 měsíci

      @@HealthyGroceryGirl this is so encouraging! Thank you! I work from home as well so I really appreciate you sharing that with me. Gives me hope that this CAN be done and done well. And yes, I wouldn’t mind doing something on a Saturday if needed… after all, it’s only a few hours here and there especially at this age (and if we choose to do something year round with weeks off here and there). Do you find yourself feeling stressed/guilty if something for work pops up and a planned lesson or fun commitment with kids has to be canceled? How do you handle pivoting that and trying to fit that experience/lesson to another day? Does it ever happen too many times in one week? On days that you choose to not homeschool, how do you fill the kids’ times (since play is still learning)? Do you plan things out for them while you try to get work done, or did you typically try to squeeze it all in while they napped? Also, how many times a week did you homeschool your kids at this age- and for how many hours each day? Sorry for all the questions!! Appreciate your time and any info you could give!

    • @HealthyGroceryGirl
      @HealthyGroceryGirl  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I am grateful that with my job I have a lot of flexibility in my work schedule being my own boss! I like to carve out days or times of the day where I work and then times where we do our school. It's too hard for me to feel like I am always needed in both areas. So when we are doing school, that is my priority in that moment. I can't recall a time where something so urgent popped up I had to stop a lesson. But there have been days where we all just weren't feeling it or we felt tired and we just decided to read instead of do a lesson! Also some days my kids will be REALLY into school and we'll do like 5-10 lessons in one sitting ha! My daughter has been known to work through an entire workbook in one or two days that I thought would last months ha! So it all balances out if some days are slower and some or more filled! As far as mom guilt I try and give myself a lot of grace! Big picture, it's more important that we are building a really great relationship together, a great relationship with their siblings and over the course of the year have learned some key milestones for that age range! So if one day doesn't go as planned, that's okay! You can always do more school the next day to makeup for it or pivot and do something else still educational but that works for your family that day!

    This was so helpful! I’m totally interested in what a day in the life of homeschooling looks like for y’all. Also, are you satisfied with the faith aspect in TGATB? Do you notice it being a prominent arching theme throughout the curriculum? That’s my hold up with it, definitely want something that will integrate faith into our education.

      So glad you enjoyed this video!! I share a lot of "day in the life" with our homeschooling on my Instagram Stories! instagram.com/healthygrocerygirl/ The faith aspect in the Good and The Beautiful is very minimal and is mostly mentioning of God such as when looking at a piece of art together in the program it may say, "God created so much beauty in this world for us to enjoy. Look at the painting on this page..." To add more faith-based learning moments into our days we'll read books, character cards, children's devotionals, listen to music and more!

      I am considering using the gentle and classical curriculums they have a preschool and a primer and they are for children up u til about 8-9 years old. They focus more on the faith part and focus aloooot less on the academics. So I am considering a combo of that curriculum plus the good and the beautiful for the academic (language arts and math)

    We used TGATB and G+C last year and loved them both! My daughter struggled half ways through with TGATB level K math. We ended up getting Kate Snow's Math With Confidence level K to help her grasp some concepts she could not undestand from TGATB math. Kate Snow has an amazing book Preschool Math at Home which has all the games used in the Kindergarten level! It was recommended by Erin in her Gentle Classical preschool program. 😊

    I love that you’ve really gone through 3 curriculums. If you had to buy only one, which would you choose? Or would you mix? As in, buy curriculum 1, but supplement with flash cards of #2? I would love your opinion. Thank you!

      Hi! Good and The Beautiful is our favorite for how thorough it is for Language Arts, Math, Writing, Phonics and More! The Gentle and Classical Press is our favorite for the "beauty subjects" that enrich our education so much such as nature, art, living books as well integrating manners, hygiene habits and more!

    This video was incredibly helpful. My oldest is starting Kindergarten and I've done preschool for him the last several years. My youngest will be 3 in November and will be starting very gentle preschool. I used Playing Preschool from Busy Toddler for my oldest and hope to do some of those same things with my younger one. I used G+C preschool with my oldest last year and doing her Primer this year. I know you mentioned Primer in a different video. Are you doing it this year for his K or did it last year for preschool? (P.S. I watched til the end. Lol!)

      Hi! I am using the Primer from Gentle and Classical for Kinder! Although I'm not following the program exactly as she has it planned out. We are just integrating the manners, hygiene cards, nature study, art as well morning binders in our own way! I explain a little bit more in my recent Morning Basket video! :) The only programs we follow exactly are the open and go programs like Good and The Beautiful :)

    I would love to see a follow up video about how you use the different curriculums together... Like do the dash into learning books work along with the good and the beautiful curriculum? Do you do one and then the other? How do you use the gentle and classical stuff with them? I love everything you picked! But would like to know more about how you use them together, if that makes sense. 😅

      Hi! Thank you for this video suggestion! I will think through how I can make a video to share our school day! :) In the meantime, we start with morning circle group learning together such as the weather, days of the week / month of the year, morning binders. Then I do LA with my daughter (Good and The Beautiful) usually 1 lesson, maybe 2 if she wants to. Then we'll do a page in her writing book (Dash Into Learning), then 1-2 early readers. We then do Math 1-2 lessons from her math books. Then we'll do my sons preschool program and anything I have set up for him that day. My son often plays blocks or builds something while I do school with my daughter and then my daughter likes to help me do school with my son. In the afternoons we do group learning so we'll work on our ABC books we're making, chapter book read aloud, history, science, social studies, art etc! We do the core subjects each day but I rotate science, history, social studies, art etc so throughout the week so we usually focus on one each afternoon! This is a general idea but each day we really adjust the schedule based on what we are learning and what makes sense for that day! Hope this helps! :)

      @@HealthyGroceryGirl it does! Thanks! It sounds very similar to what im planning for next year, except instead of doing one day each of social studies, science, etc I decided id rotate them like as a whole... So basically do science everyday for the whole unit, then do history everyday for the whole unit, etc.
      Hopefully it goes well! 😅

    I watched to the end :) question for you. Did you start with playing preschool, then did gentle and classical, then the good and the beautiful preschool? I’ve been exploring these for my preschooler and they’re all different enough that I’m trying to decide which to start with. 😊

      Hi! Yes! The first "homeschool" program that caught my eyes was Playing Preschool, which is what we started with for my daughter while also slowing adding in Gentle and Classical! Then in her Pre-K year we did a blend of Gentle and Classical and The Good and The Beautiful Preschool then Pre-K, in the same year. The Good and The Beautiful Pre-K program is really short. That's just the flow I followed for my daughter! For my son, my second time teaching preschool, I actually am not using Playing Preschool as much as I thought I would! Rather we are just focusing on learning letters, counting and numbers, lots of reading and time in nature! Giving myself more grace as I teach two now! He learns SO much just by observing what his sister is learning! We do a lot of family style learning for all subjects besides math and LA!

    Hello! Very new to homeschooling so I loved this video, thank you!! I am wondering why you put TGATB practice sheets into the binder but did not do the same with the handwriting practice sheets for your daughter? Wouldn’t your son need those too later on? Or would you rather just get his own book? Thank you! :)

    • @HealthyGroceryGirl
      @HealthyGroceryGirl  Před rokem

      Hi! The practice sheets every page you write on so that made sense for me to put into sheets for dry erase markers! With the programs there are many more pages so that would have required a lot more sheets (which would get expensive) and the child doesn't write on every page so it felt a little wasteful to buy / use sheets for pages that don't really need them while keeping the program in order. So I just came up with creative ways to use the program as is without writing in it! But you could very well tear out all the pages from the program and put then into sheets in a binder too for dry erase marker use!

    When working on handwriting what do you feel like is the easiest tool for a four-year-old to begin do you use large pencils or markers or pens I have tried triangle pencils but all of them seem to have not the right fit

    • @HealthyGroceryGirl
      @HealthyGroceryGirl  Před rokem +1

      We use regular pencils or shorter pencils (like a golf pencil). I feel pencils are honestly better than markers or pens to really have the child have more control in how their writing turns out! Dry erase is good for circling or drawing lines between matching items etc. But to really write out letters or words we love pencils!

    My son is too active and plays too much to learn. I feel defeated. I’m a nurse and mentally and physically drained daily. I have no energy to give but for some reason I want to lock myself in an asylum because I want to homeschool lol. Crazy I know 😂

    • @HealthyGroceryGirl
      @HealthyGroceryGirl  Před 6 měsíci +1

      My son is very active as well! I try and use that as a tool for learning. So instead of expecting him to sit still (he is about to turn 4) I will do letter flashcards with him and have him look at the letter then jump as high as he can and shout the letter! It's silly and fun and a great way for him to expend energy while working on letter recognition! We also have a wood piklar triangle with a wood slide... sometimes he will slide down the slide while saying his letters! At this age, I don't expect him to sit still for long so I try and meet him where he is at and that is being active and busy while also including learning at the same time! :)
