  • Recent intense lightning storms have sparked fires all across the state. Here in the bay area the Santa Cruz Coast and Sonoma are in the most trouble. The ashes are floating all the way here to San Jose.
I have made a donation to the IAFF disaster relief fund as well as to Calfire. I would also ask that my subscribers consider donating both to help preserve our favorite nature spots and to help ensure firefighters have the resources they need to keep people safe.

Dang I live in SoCal and haven’t been paying attention to the news. Had no idea fires were going on right now.

I am in Marin, we have more than 50 acres burning in the Point Reyes National Seashore just west of me. It's horrific.
I'm disabled and a part time electric wheelchair user. We've been watching the rolling blackouts calendar closely, and when we were slated to lose power, did my 7yo run for the extra battery for my chair? Nope. She went to find the heat packs for the reptiles.

Heat packs?! In this heatwave? Most herps should be fine without power in these temps for a few days.
