I lived in Illinois as a kid and grew up watching the Bozo show. And got to watch double dare & the legend of the hidden temple. And definitely enjoyed the early mtv shows like remote control & headbangers ball. I wouldn’t trade growing up in the 80’s or 90’s for anything!!

If you remember hearing a much more cheerful Bozo growing up watching the show on WGN, you're thinking of Joey D'Auria playing Bozo. This was one of the last few tapings in Bob Bell portrayed the character. The set you are seeing premiered in early 1984. Bob Bell retired April 4th of that year. Why did he retire? He played the character for 23 years and was part of the WGN Staff even longer. He also did early morning Staff Announcements before he would get into his Bozo character. He worked hard at his job and always gave it 100%, especially as Bozo. He was not fired. He was NEVER intoxicated while as the Bozo character. He simply retired, and it was a well deserved retirement.
I was picked in 1968. I was 6 years old and it was my Birthday. Bozo spun around and up into the crowd and fell on my lap. I have wanted that particular show. It was April 22, 1968. Of anyone has this Day. There could have been more then 1 show taped but. We watched it on TV, 2 weeks later. My 4 siblings and my parents. I remember the hat kept falling off my head. That's when it was Butch for the day or Belinda, I think. But he is creepy now when I see him. I remember sitting on his lap too. Ugh...

I was on the show in 1976, and they picked the contestants by "Magic Arrows." The problem with that is that the arrows would often land on adults or babies, and they would have to keep spinning. That is probably why they changed to the "Bozoputer." It's probably not really a computer, as it looks like an analog display that someone is manually changing. They probably issue raffle tickets to the kids and draw tickets from a hat, then display whatever number they draw, and it's probably a computer like many other science fiction shows that had things that looked like computers.
This should be a required video for all congressmen and women to watch. Kids didnt understand what was going on with bozo because they were innocent and too young to understand ADULT SITUATIONS.

I find it interesting that it didn't have the same effect for the Atlanta Braves when they were seen on TBS for many years, considering that TBS had a was a superstition longer than WGN. Of course, the Braves didn't have a flashy ballpark like Wrigley Field. Also, they didn't have a colorful personality calling the games like Harry Caray. However, they did have his son, Skip Carey call Braves games.
