    According to The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary, Kylo Ren redonned his helmet to mark himself as a Knight of Ren, but this time on his own terms.
    At the time when he destroyed his helmet, Ren saw the gifts that Snoke gave him as collars and leashes designed to keep him under the Supreme Leader's control.
    Reforging his helmet symbolized the breaking and rebuilding of Ren's own identity. As to why it took him a year, the book doesn't say, but he was preoccupied with consolidating his reign as the new Supreme Leader.

      Kind of confused; the helmet was a gift by Snoke? Yet the thing that pushes Kylo is Snoke ridiculing the mask? Were the Knights named after him or were they a thing before he became their master?

      @noname01xr Před 4 lety +6

      @@artfact2 The book states that the Knights of Ren were gifted to Kylo Ren by Snoke, who promised his apprentice powerful followers if he proved worthy. The helmet is a symbol of that gift, which Ren came to resent, or rather he resented spending a lifetime serving powerful masters i.e. Luke Skywalker and Snoke. It's only when he became his own master that Ren felt ready to wear his helmet as a Knight of Ren, having killed Snoke.

    • @noname01xr
      @noname01xr Před 4 lety +2

      @Adrian Q The visual dictionary states that Kylo is the inheritor of Ren's Knights ("Ren" being the previous leader before Ben Solo), and that Snoke gave Kylo command of the Knights after passing a grueling trial.
      The miniseries shows that Snoke sent Ben to seek out the Knights on his own. The preview for chapter 3 shows that the Knights are acquainted with Snoke, just as Ben is, so Snoke does in fact have something to do with the Knights.

    Good triumphed over Evil.
    Freedom was gained from Tyranny.
    Chaos however has destroyed any Order that was left.
    Unlike the Alliance to Restore the Republic the Resistance has no political leaders anymore. The most influential man in the Galaxy is Lando Calrissian but I doubt many sentients want him as a leader. Not only is the Empire and its remnants without power the Republic and even the biggest Criminal cartels are broken. This is a state of system independence that has not existed since before the Rekatan Infinite Empire. As such I think it will be quite some time before any governing body controls more than a couple of Star systems.

      The clone troopers who were stationed in the capital formed the Coruscant Guard, and thus served more closely with the Chancellor and non-Jedi military officers, unlike the other clone units. So I doubt they would have sided with the Jedi over Palpatine.
      The others like the 212th, the 327th, or the 501st were pretty damn loyal to their Jedi generals, and throughout the war the clones showed that they were capable of independent thought and making decisions based on their conscience, which was influenced by their relationship with the Jedi.
      The inhibitor chips, however, forced the clones to obey Order 66 without question. So if any clone had sided with the Jedi, all Palpatine had to do was say "execute Order 66" and they'd instantly turn on the Jedi.

    That's what's so frustrating about Luke's academy being destroyed. We continue to learn about force sensitive characters who survived the empire and would have likely heard of the academy & returned. Idk about baby yoda, but Cal Kestis, Cere, Ezra, those characters in the books looking for Luke/Jedi, there was that girl Faron Barr trained in the Vader comic -- they can't all use the excuse of being off in unknown regions. All the excitement of these characters possibly rebuilding the Jedi is undercut by that academy being destroyed.

    I'd argue that it has to do with Kylo recognizing the fact that he failed to supplant Snoke. He put the mask back on because his encounter with Palpatine showed him where he really was in the grand scheme of things: still underneath the same Emperor's boot. It's why he did an apparent 180 from "it's time to let old things die" to "you can't escape your nature" in this film, but it's also the inevitable futility of the dark side, which plays a part I think in his redemption later on.

    I'm writing a story about Palpatine's son and the day he left Rey with Unkar Platt. My theory is that Palpatine did try to turn him to the dark side, but the son resisted. He tried to hide his abilities as long as possible and underplayed them when Ol' Sheev did find out. He eventually fled with the daughter of one of Palp's servants and turned to alcohol to numb his connection to the force. Eventually, that led to him being cut off from it completely. That's why it was possible for him to hide from his father in the first place, Sheev couldn't find him through the force, and why Kylo said that they sold Rey for drinking money. When he looked into her mind and saw her past, he only saw pieces out of context. Her parents were alcoholic nobodies, and sacrificing themselves to save Rey is the best thing they ever did.

Like going to the lower levels to kill a homeless being or something, thats when the son would realize what his father truly is and flee.
      And very true, the force itself isnt split so cleanly between good and evil but I think its safe to say Palpatine is pure evil. Systems have benefitted from his Empire, but Palps created it for pure selfish reasons and killed trillions doing it.
      Basically, imagine your dad is Hitler. Youve been raised in near isolation your entire life, and youve only actually met your father once or twice but you keep hearing what a great and noble man he is. However once you get what you ask for and he begins showing you who he really is and who he wants you to become, you realize the imperial propaganda is wrong, your father isnt the kindly old statesman, but a manipulative sorceror and you have to make a choice... No, Galaxy's Edge is canonically set between Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker. Why does he have his helmet? Well the practical reason is so Disney can hire actors who don't look like Adam Driver but have the right build to wear the costume and look like Kylo Ren in the theme parks. The Rey actresses look pretty convincing for a Daisy Ridley stand-in though at the theme park, I don't know if it would really be that hard to find a Adam Driver look a like... but I can almost gurantee that is the real world reason Ren has a helmet inside the park.
      The canon reason? I dunno, he has a spare helmet lying around he decided to wear out on Batuu for some reason! :P

      @@anthonyfins7519 I think that is part of it too. A few other factors, the park was in development probably from the late stages of TFA through-out TLJ and into Rise of Skywalker. Its confirmed there are a few small elements of the canceled Ep.9 "Duel of the Fates" script that made it into Galaxy's Edge due to that long production, particularly the TIE Echelon which was designed by Collin's original Ep.9 team. So its possible costume and animatronic design for Kylo Ren was well underway by the parks team before they knew TLJ would have him smashing his helmet, and before they knew it would be rebuilt in Rise of Skywalker.

    Kylo destroyed his helmet after Snoke made fun of it. Then he became Supreme Leader, so he didn't need it anymore, there wasn't anyone left to impress. But I think that when he met the Emperor, he felt vulnerable again and his helmet was like his source of confidence or his way to hide things. He needed to feel intimidating again. Also, we see the Knights of Ren a little bit more in TROS, maybe he connected with them again when they helped him hunt down Rey and wanted his helmet back

      It seemed pretty clear to me - the knights are standing around witnessing the repair and they all travel with Kylo to the First Order ship and Kylo tells the heads of the First Order that him and his knights are going on a hunt for the scavenger
      I find it interesting he refers to Rey in this scene as ‘the scavenger’ and not ‘the Jedi’
      I like that this film doesn’t over explain everything- it’s very 80’s original trilogy to me - it allows the audience to use their common sense and piece some of the puzzle together themselves
      It’s old school
      If modern films don’t explain everything down to the minutia then it’s a ‘plot Hole’
