Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
As a Scottish history tour guide people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation of your from the US. So I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

Realy enjoy your video's but is there any chance of translating the closing couple of lines you have in each video.
Scotland did not save France. Scotland suffered immensely by supporting the French. Scottish armies were slaughtered at Neville's Cross and Flodden after they invaded England in support of France. The Scottish army in France under Buchan and Douglas was wiped out 1424 at Verneuil. Scotland would have been better off leaving France alone - the costs were high the benefits very low.

You really have to transcribe all these film into the history book about Scotland.... exactly how you deliver them in the films and I for one would read every one of them... enthralled and maybe wince and chuckle from time to time... I swear the most entertaining videos I've seen on CZcams since I first subscribed... cheers
Read the books from Nigel Tranter, especially Lion let loose, it's about James I , from a young age to his death. Very good!
“Losing his balls” I spit out my coffee, and couldn’t stop laughing! Your videos make my day!!
😜
I've been trying to get documentaries on the early Stewarts for quite a while and this is the first time I've found a decent one. I love watching your programmes. A lot of our teachers at school did nothing to capture our imagination or keep our attention, speaking in monotone and droning on, but you are the complete opposite. I can remember things you've taught us lol.
There was a scottish writer called Nigel Tranter ( could be a pen name). He wrote many books about scottish history.
@grahamcairney6054 Hey Graham would you be willing to share any STEWART FAMILY INFO you have with Me as I am decended from Mary Queen of Scots { Dunbar (Castle)} Homes}} ❓thrue my Maternal bloodline‼️ Maybe Me & my side of the family can share any of our STEWART family geneaolgy with You❓👍🏻 🏴🩵
Your musician with the Scottish folk music is very nice sounding.
HAHAHAHAHA…I love the rewind and turn on the subtitles!! I am from the states, but my boyfriend is a proper cockney street urchin. Your accent is much easier to understand than his. Obviously I understand every word he says, but I have actually had people ask me what language he speaks. Your accent is awesome as are your videos!! I am happy to have stumbled upon your channel…you have a new subscriber!!
I just love the story of King James I of Scotland.
I subscribed within about 2 minutes of my 1st video before he even had to say it. Love it dude

Maybe it's the audio with constant music over lapping, i didn't dislike this or put a thumbs down to this you gob.
In the discription it reads that King James was murdered in 1437, ….
that’s 129 yrs. before James was born !!!
Is there another King James????

Can you explain King James1 & V1 being the same person?? Or,

I love your content and am enjoying it immensely since I found it a week ago. I wonder if you could shed any light on the murders of the the Ruthvens of Scotland and their murders by the royal Stewart's. I'm supposedly descended from the Ruthven line and am curious as to why that line was all but eliminated in Scotland.
I would look abroad, so many religious wars happening. looking at Web site on them the time fits with them fleeing or going into slavery.
Interesting 🖤🌹 the Stewart family is here in America they mixed with my original family here. Enslaved and turned into negroes.

Welcome
I'm from Eastern Tennessee in the U.S. and I certainly no problem understanding you. I use to hang out with the Irish, mostly those from the north of Ireland and one of them was married to a Glasgow girl. Being use to the Northern Irish accent, I had no problems understanding. And having been around the Irish for three years, the father of my 3 daughters being from Belfast. Many people thought after we moved to Florida from New Jersey. Thought I was from Ireland and he was from England. Even my own mother thought this....but anyway, I still have no problem understanding any of your accents. Now the French, and other Europeans can't understand them at all half the time. Go figure....lol.
Is that the origin of the saying, "Katie, Bar the Door!" ?
What an amazing woman, knowing her arm would be broken, she put it in place of the bar. Wow!
The park has been a park since the 15th century AND they held gladiator style battles there as well?! My lawd man, what a magical place. The soil contains the spirits of the past and sprouts out the aspirations of the future.
Why would anyone need subtitles? The words are clear as day. Also, on an unrelated note, thanks for the video about Pop's home town.
Thank you
Enjoyed that story Bruce, cheers!
Aye Perth's the toun. I need tae days ane in Brechin
@@ScotlandHistoryTours Your correct Perth is the Toun but Brechin is the City! Plenty to cover in Brechin, History of the round tower, History of the Cathedral, Siege of Brechin castle by Edward 1st. Battle of Brechin, Royal decree by King Kenneth II.
Hi Bruce,
Another great YT video, have your ever considered doing one on the Maxwell v Johnston feud in the 16th century?
You wouldn't happen to have an interest would you?😜 I'm asking folks to send requests like these to requests@scotlandhistorytours.co.uk That way they will all be in the same place and at some point I can look at them together.
I’d be very interested in that one.
Lovely singing voice.
I remember the story about Lady Douglas using her arm to keep that huge door closed, Very brave woman!
My brother is like James I...great at everything. I am more like his father, I have only 1 1/3 legs...and the rest, well, I leave it to your imagination. Thank you for this story. I am trying to learn all I can about this time period and Scottish soldiers fighting in France. I find it amazing how hard all monarchs struggled to have reliable sources of revenue. Thank you for this part of the big picture.
I really like your videos normally and I understand why you included the music in this one but I found I couldn't listen to what you were saying because of it. I'm a very strong auditory processor and rather than being able to listen to you my brain kept hearing the words in the music instead
Please do the Clan Campbell attempt on James II?
Look how fast the river is running
From what I think I know, I am a descendant of Robert Ruadh (the name which became Reid), from north of Perth around Straloch, who captured the murderers of James I. For that action he was awarded, by James II, all the land he could see from where they stood. He was also awarded a prisoner in chains for his coat of arms. I am also a very distant relative of the royal Stuart line.
I'd be very interested if you had anything about Robert.
Thank you for a great channel.
You seem to know more about him yourself Rick. I've just found out stuff I didn't know about my own grandad
Very interesting, Bruce. Looks like a relative of Albany disliked the video.
You can't please all the people all the time😜
Have you heard of James macpherson? I'd love it if you could make a video about him, being a Banffer masel. There a good wee tune about him ana cad Macphersons rant.

The music is amazing !!! Yeah musician , sportsman, intellectual AND a crazy witch hunter Wasn‘t king James the king who started the witch hunting in Scotland and England !? He even wrote a book about that he was the only king directly involved in witch hunting 😮 but perhaps you‘ll tell it I am at half the video
No, that was James VI
i'm gonna have to rewatch this one because this is a better story than House of the Dragon ..
and I love House of the Dragon lmao!
Per WikiTree, I find that I'm a direct descendant of Robert III.(ya, me and about 1 million others) Too far for DNA to reach, but I can see the path easily. Now I'm curious to learn more.
I raised my dram of Balvenie Caribbean Cask 15-year-old Scotch to you! Smooth as silk!
Oooooh lovely
Another tid bit for you to giggle at. My niece (my older brother's daughter) Married a young man named Stewart. After collage he joined the Air Force here in the states and having some fancy degree in computer science, he was assigned to keep the computers working on AIR FORCE ONE. You know the plane the President of the U.S. flies around in. Tom had that job for over 25 years, and recently retired a Colonial I believe. And his family originally comes from Scotland. And my niece's mother's maiden name was Campbell and they originally came from Scotland as well. My ancestry is ....I'm the United Nations....lol.

So many of the events in this bit of history would seem ridiculous in a story. A mass trial by combat in a park? A woman using her own arm to bar a door? A king stabbed to death in the sewers because of tennis balls? Madness!
Och it happens a' the time
You are a master story teller, but I was slightly distracted by the volume of the music. Perhaps it needs to go down one notch when you are talking.
Aye, once it's up it can't be altered
I am a descendant of Andrew Sword from Borgue Parish in Kirkcudbright. He was killed for plotting to kill in king, he was apparently considered a Covenanter martyr.
Thank you very much! I am researching my genealogy and I just found out I am King James' direct descendant. Believe me, I'm extremely glad he didn't lose the other balls!

Every history I have read about the Albany Stewarts says that Murdoch, 2nd Duke of Albany was beheaded. Along with sons WALTER and ALEXANDER and the Earl of Lennox. So WALTER was not a friend of James I.
James Mhor Stewart was the only Albany Stewart to escape. He went to Northern Ireland.
You also left out that Robert III WAS named John. but King John Balloil had a claim to the throne. So he took his father's name.
Aye James the Fat. Would you lenite the M of Mor in this situation?

I wonder what he meant when he said King James was athletic and cultured? Taking into consideration the times 1600's...The images of the various kings and even the great pretender looks so familiar, as if they were scripted by the same artist...
1600s???? I think you've misunderstood

You look. You look better in slo mo. I have nightmares about being stabbed to death by a Scot. What’s a black Douglas compared to the others? Wonderful story thanks.
My matrilineal Granda was a Graham. I looked up Sir Robert & his portrait is the spit of him. In fact looking in the mirror here. If I'd a mullet I'd be him reincarnated. (edit) I didn't know why I'd not been keen to go with friends to Stirling & it was the one army cadet camp trip I'd not gone on as a child. But here I've just read Sir Robert was executed there.
