Elizabeth II she was one of My favorite monarchs of all time
I wasn't old enough in 1960. Not sure if my parents saw it? Depends what month. Early in the year, we were all in Deutschland (Germany)
Yup, my parents were back in the states by May
I was actually born and left Germany by the time The Berlin Wall started being used.
I am not sure that I saw the moon landing on TV? I did see the rocket go up in real time
I remember watching Queen’s performance at Live Aid while my family was having dinner at a bistro in Hamburg, Germany, on our last road trip before heading back to the US after a year of living in Brussels. My parents aren’t big fans of pop/rock music, but they were impressed with Queen’s set.
I’ll never forget that dinner as long as I live.
When Ali was there to light the flame in the 96 Olympics I cried. They could not have picked anyone better.
The Queen
Michael Jackson was an icon of music. What a pity that he died too young
RIP To The Greatest Entertainer Of All Time / The King Of POP 🙏🏽 👑 🕊️

Queens funeral crazy. The organization for it and the fact that nothing really want wrong was impressive. The whole marching into it and all the different militarily formations, countries etc was cool to see.
I heard about her death at school because everyone was talking about it.
I watched the 9-11 attacks, Queen Elizabeth funeral, 2022 men’s World Cup finals, two royal weddings, multiple shuttle launches, three presidential funerals, multiple Super bowls and tons of breaking news reports from around the world regarding school shootings in the United States and multiple catastrophic events, Multiple Sumer and Winter Olympics.
just like billions other people , you ain't special
@@dkdebest Envy is never a good look, darling... Get BETTER, not BITTER.
@@AngeliqueStPhe’s right though.
I saw the Beatles, Nixon’s Resignation, O.J. Simpson verdict, Kate and William Royal Wedding, State Funeral of JFK, the Moon Landing, Live Aid, the Funeral of Michael Jackson, the Funeral of Princess Diana, the 1996 Olympic Opening Ceremony, and the State Funeral of Elizabeth the 2nd.
I vaguely remember Elizabeth’s wedding. The film was flown in from London and everybody was waiting for it
You're old and watch too much TV lol
@@drmarctagon Envy is never a good look, darling... Get BETTER, not BITTER.
@@AngeliqueStP and what would I be envious of? The amount of TV watching? lol
Live Aid was so amazing. Couldn't help but feel proud to be a member of the human race that particular day. lol
It was amazing. So glad I was part of a generation that actually got to see it live.
My birthday was on the day of the 2022 World Cup Final. All I wanted to do that day was watch the match at the buttcrack of dawn infront of my Christmas tree. Heck of a birthday!

I'm not huge fan of futbol, but mom and I figured we should tune into the France V Argentina game so we could know what everyone was talking about the next day. We were getting ready for church and it just kept getting more and more riveting! lol. Finally we have to leave, but we were streaming on my phone all the way to church We were walking in when Argentina took the win. Fun stuff.

REST IN PEACE MICHAEL!! KING OF POP.
Ewwww the pedo
Man I still remember watching MJ’s funeral on TV and I cried
For a large part of the world Queen Elizabeth was THE only Queen of the UK we’ve ever known. She was a constant for over 70 years, and barring some horrible disaster that sees Prince George taking the throne very early, that record will not be broken.
I was a Royalist all my life...until Charles. Now I can't wait for Australia to have another referendum to rid ourselves of the monarchy. ALL my family voted to keep them at the last one in 1999. It still only passed 55/45% No way will Charles and the horse he married get that. The Queen Mother and Elizabeth were still alive then and many voted out of respect for these 2 women. NOBODY I know is voting to keep them........I wish Charles had given the throne to William...they MAY have had a chance....
@@suzyfarnham3165 I mean William will be King eventually. 🤷♂️
If you’re a certain age and watch tv, you’ve probably seen at least 75% of these.
I even got to see The Beatles perform live in San Francisco.
I’m that old.
Saw about half of these.Saddest was Princess Diana's funeral.Happiest was Queen at Live Aid
I remember getting up early in the morning to watch Di’s funeral. So sad. Seeing her boys walking behind the carriage, my heart broke for them.
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! I learned recently that the donations from the Live Aid event was horrendously used, thus no more similar events since then. 🥶
Everyone was excited when disneyland first open and still loved it since that day
Propably the next WC final in 2026 is gonna be way higher when someone did the next list
Yes, definitely
Not to mention the FIFA World Cup Final Game being held in the US (most likely either in NYC/New Jersey at the NFL Giants/Jets Stadium or Southern Calif. ie NFL Rams and Chargers Stadium)will also add in a few million more Viewers mainly from America as well.
I was surprised Martin Luthur King JR's I Have a Dream wasn't in this video? I'm pretty sure it was on television and watched in person.
User this is based on both US and European/Global TV viewership stats. Keep in mind, that in 1963 satellite was in its beginning stages so the MLK "I Have A Dream" was seen only live in America. A better argument is that MLK speech being one of the most important political speeches shown on Live Television in history in which they would no doubt be in the Top 2-3.
I watched Queen on Live Aid from Chicago. I can stll remember every moment of watching.
It was unbelievably beautiful.
Very Interesting and Entertaining! Thank You!
seeing the 2022 world cup final in the list puts a smile in my face, specially because my country is the champion
Parabéns, hermano. ❤🇧🇷
@@lucapellari5985 Muito obrigado, na próxima Copa do Mundo depois da Argentina vou com o Brasil

For the 2022 FIFA World Cup final I hoped you would include footage from the Telemundo broadcast. The winning call by Andrés Cantor and him trying to keep his composure and stay professional after calling his home country winning the World Cup was just an awesome thing to hear and also wonderful to see when you look at his own recording of him making the call on TikTok.
The 2014 Eurovision Song Contest final had 195 million viewers :)
I just googled Eurovision 2023 and it states 162 million viewers... soo i guess it´s true that it has more viewers than the superbowl :)
You are comparing an continental event vs a domestic event
It's a recently event, so that thing was not included as of now.
@@EM-ic1ypBut that continent has most the same population as your one country, so it's more impressive.

I LOVED Rebecca's "ring announcer" impression!!!😊😊😊
The NBA Finals 2019,was amazing, that was when the Raptors finally won an NBA championship.
The entire country was cheering for the Raptors, not just Toronto
Your raptors suck hahahahaha dog team
The 2019 NBA Finals won by the Raptors was (I don't have the exact figures)was I am sure the most watched sporting event not hockey/NHL related in Canada's Television History. However this list is from an US/Global TV Audience.
@americangiant1003 Canada has a small population, and not every Canadian enjoys basketball, but keep in mind that there was also an American in the Finals
One of the many blessings to me about growing up in Hawai’i was being exposed to Elvis
I was soooo surprised and amazed to hear about Kaiser Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles. I have been seeing my girlfriend for about 3 years who is from the US, whilst I am from Ireland, my best friend managed to loan me €1,000 to go to the US for the first time and be with them. Eventually got there, and then I found out the Super Bowl was happening, and for me it seemed big as it is one of the US's national sport. So I stopped by Ruby Tuesday with her, and had a lot of pints down in me. I remember than night clear as day. To now know that it was a major watched event warms my heart even more
Kansas City* not Kaiser Chiefs lol
my events will probably be bigger... good list!
I saw the recent Super Bowl just to see Rihanna perform at the halftime show even though I'm normally not a football fan. I also saw William And Kate's wedding when I was 13 even though I had to go to school later that day (watched at 3:00am Pacific). And of course, I had to watch Queen Elizabeth II's funeral since it was a once in a generation event. I did watch a little bit of Michael Jackson's funeral when I was 11. I still get the chills when I revisit the clip of Paris Jackson's emotional speech.
Besides, 9/11, August 8th, 1974 is my strongest "I remember where I was" date. It was a Thursday, my Dad took the day off work and we drove from Michigan to Ohio to go to Cedar Point. We stayed until it got dark, got back in the car, Dad turned on the radio, and then sat in silence listening to Nixon resign. I was only seven, but I knew my Dad's job was politics-related and that it was an important event for him.
My mother saw the Lunar Landing when she was a little girl in Japan
Nah i swear the World Cup final was watched more than 1.5 billion, that was the feeling that i felt when the final was finished
😂🤣😅
Watched Diana's funeral, Michael Jackson's, William and Kate's wedding, Elizabeth II's funeral, 1996 Olympics. Because the Olympics were held in my hometown that year I also went to an Olympic event with my brother.
Cool! What events did you get to see?
@@davidslife989 It was a basketball game. Can't remember the countries but they were European countries.
I'd like a version of this list adjusted for population. 650m people in 1969 is a greater share of the global population than 800m today.
Speaking of Live Aid, I'm still waiting for WatchMojo to make the Top 10 Best Live Aid Performances. Because everyone deserves credit where credit is due. And we all know who would be number one.
If it isn’t Queen, I’m screaming bloody murder!
Oh, WM would know better than to not put Queen at number one lol
@@loving.linmanDo they though? They've made very bad lists before
'The Note Heard Around The World".........never forgotten
You missed Freddie Mercury tribute concert which was watched by 1 billion people.
And the honor goes to...
"Horrible Histories" (2009-2014)
Fractured fairytales

The funeral of Pope John Paul II also attracted crowds, with over 2 billion people watching it
Fun fact Australia was the first country in the world to receive life footage of moon landing
I was meant to go home from school to watch but thought playing basketball on the school courts in North Queensland was a better idea? I broke my arm!
I still remember being 7 and watching the OJ chase with my dad 😂
The MJ funeral hits differently. It was morning time in Nepal when it was broadcast, my family were in the living room watching it and I was getting ready for the school.
🤣😂😅
I vaguely remember my parents watching the Nixon Kennedy debate.
when Messi wins the World Cup, Satoshi/Ash Ketchum and Pikachu Finally beat Leon. After 20 Years Two Icons reach there Dream and End it with Fans Crying with Satisfaction.
Superbowl views doesn't mean NFL isn't dying. It's expected to be on and at least 50% of the viewers are there for the commercials and food, not paying any attention to the game.
It's actually in the middle. The NFL is far from dying but honestly it's not drawing in as many new fans Internationally as say baseball, hockey and basketball. With that you are correct that the real # of TV Viewers in at least the US that are "legit" NFL fans is probably only 50-60 million. Which is the same as the NFL semifinals aka Conference Title Games usually get 2 weeks earlier.
Just goes to show how significant and impactful British culture was to the rest of the world.
I remember the famine in Ethiopia. I thought my daughter would grow up and save Ethiopia. However, when she was 2, she showed up at the top of the stairs in a diaper, my high heels and the fuzzy belt from my bathrobe draped around her naked shoulders singing “I’m a material girl. I knew then, it wasn’t going to happen.
Another video with Queen on its cover ❤
Live aid was awesome I also saw the OJ verdict live on tv
Elvis.
I love u Elvis
I saw the moon Landing. Live Aid, Nixon Resignation Speech. OJ Simpson verdict. Olympics 96, That Ali match
God save the Queen!
I was curious to know what are the most watched events and when I searched it up it was just uploaded
the opening clip the bald man looks like varys the spider from game of thrones😂
Doesn't Eurovision events draw bigger numbers than Superbowl? Yet one did make the list while other didn't
Yeah 2023 had 163m So 15th on this list.
St Louis still loves the Spinks brothers.
“COTAR” instead of “Qatar” had me wheezing 😂
Live Aid is really spectacular. And Queen take it all like it was their own concert. I miss Fred...
These r all good picks but I find it hard to believe that all of these events had more views than 9/11
They literally said they weren't including those kind of events.
Managed to miss all of these. I would have liked to watch the moon landing live, but I was traveling in a country where I did not speak the language.
???

Pretty sure Eurovision is watched by 200 million each year so not sure why it wasn't included or Miss Universe as well is a big thing in Latin America and South East Asia

i wholeheartedly thought the moon landing would be #1
Eurovision 2023 is missing
163 Million viewers
Diana funeral…i worked at a supermarket at it was almost empty and it was not in englamd😢
I swear people only watch the Super Bowl for the halftime show and the trailers 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Damn. Elton John is everywhere.
You know what won't get televised? The revolution.
If Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal was Lionel Messi's opponents in the 2022 World Cup Final, I think the viewers might be 100 times bigger than when Argentina faced France!
Sadly, Morocco had only made the nations proud due to their achievements rather than this Portugal side.
This GOAT rivalry obviously drew around more than 1B viewers, especially when they were still the El Clasico players between 2009 and 2018. The 2009 Champions League Final, in comparison, has only approximately 109 million viewers, around 10 times smaller than the 2022 World Cup Final.
I remember exactly where i was at when Michael died 😢
If catholic schools had TV's in classrooms, JFK's funeral would definitely have been shown. My dad was in 2nd or 3rd grade in Catholic school, and prayer cards were passed out because JFK was the first Catholic president; Dad still has it somewhere
What the 2023 Super Bowl, The Funeral of MJ, and the Funeral of the Queen. Mind you, caught a glimpse of the two funeral I wasn't actually watching them.
What about the 2005 Live 8 concert? Several artists and bands were there
probably didnt get the same amount of viewers
@@mercedesdrake9113 Correct. Still that Live 8 concert was seen by many Globally and should have gotten an "honorable mention."
I watched the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II I cried and I never even get to see her in person witch is even more heartbreaking for me and others as well when they didn’t get to meet Queen Elizabeth II if there’s a Queen Elizabeth III I would see her immediately but I think the opening of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar🇶🇦 is better then the opening of the 1996 Olympic Games, but please reply my comment now please 15:30.
Yeah Live Aid was awesome.
Messy needs to be 2 lists a world list and a US list and properly researched
Wasn't there a presidential inauguration with a huge crowd?
And some Americans will still claim the Superbowl is bigger than the World Cup
Pretty dumb. Fifa world cup been known as biggest sporting event for a long time.
Argentina campeon ¡¡¡ aguante argentina !!
It’s Qatar not Cotter. A little mispronunciation right there and now I still feel like that the Opening Of The 2022 FIFA World Cup should have been on the list 14:01
The queens funeral was the biggest international party in human history
Nixon gave his " I am not a crook" televised speech from the Contemporary Resort in Disney World.
No disrespect to the Queen but I feel like I was the only person that didn’t watch her funeral.
You are not the only one😢
I took a personal day from work to watch the Simpson verdict.

the only ones i watched were williams and kate's wedding, the queen's funeral and michael jackson's funeral.... the majority of these were before my time.
me too lol
Live Aid happened a week before i was born
I was standing on parade at RAF Lyneham just thinking of the billions of people watching LiveAid..
14:00 taking place in cotter? You mean Qatar
I doubt that M. Ali vs Spinks bout draw in 2 billions viewers in 1978. The global population was some 4+ billion at the time and to expect almost half of them tuned into it is unbelievable, especially when Tv was a rare and luxury commodity in many Asian and African countries. These global numbers of top 5 events are all questionable, when more than 50% of world tuned in to watch these, except for Queen Elizabeth II funeral. By that time TV, mobile, internet was wide spread and everyone at some point tuned in to see it.
No doubt at the time, Ali vs Spinks II was the most watched sporting event of all time. On that point maybe at most 1 Billion Worldwide saw that historic match. You make a great point that probably 2 Billion combined watched or heard that 2nd Ali vs Spinks Match on both TV and radio.
I wasn’t alive for most of them
"Unfortunately her reign ended with her death." News flash: almost every monarch's reign ends with their death, especially when they're in their 90s. :p
